the guy who also writes & directs & won an oscar
Arnold
If we're just talking about action movies I'm not sure that helps Stallone, though. His best action films were all directed by someone else and I know It's heresy but I'd argue he did as much harm as good by completely taking the reigns with the Rocky movies. I know we all love them but he was basically replacement-level and just leveraged his position as the star to get the gig.
Arnold, on the other hand, was happy to just be the star and let the directors direct and as a result he ended up working with legit guys like McTiernan, Verehoven and Cameron. Stallone almost never worked with top-tier guys. George P. Cosmatos was the Brett Ratner of the 80's
i agree, Stallone was a nice guy like the stories where he helped so many actors in his time. But his movies was all decent but none of them was truly GREAT. Even the Rocky and Rambo wast truly great.
Like i think his best action move was Cobra for how styled it was.
>Rambo wasn't truly great.
first blood is one of the best action movies ever made
they made Rambo into a generic action hero fetter that, but first blood is pure kino
kys pleb
Somehow I’ve still never seen Cobra. Thanks for posting this. Downloading tonight.
Cobra had an awesome soundtrack.
Cobra is great
COME ON OUT PIG
you mean Clint?
based
But dude is amasing, great actor stared in ones of the greatest movies ever made, Made his ovn movies only a few but all of them is fricking great. Made a son that looks exactly like him but fricking 1000x hotter.
There is like only good things came from Clint.
Jackie was obv best action hero of all time. He as an actor done basically everything. From comedy to drama, any kind of action and even horror.
Agreed, in terms of sheer entertainment based in action, Chan is the man.
Arnold is the archetypical action hero when guns are involved.
I’m enjoying the modern Cruise renaissance, the new M:Is are solid fun and he’s kind of embodying Chan’s do-whatever-it-takes mentality for a new generation, despite being 50+
>Jackie was obviously the best action hero of all time
defiantly a contender he took it to a whole new level
i think because most of his films were comedic hurts him a bit.
Arnold struck a fine balance.
Stallone and it isn't even close
>Conan
>Predator
>Commando
No
You forgot
>Terminator
>Running Man
>Total Recall
>Eraser
>End of Days
>Kindergarten Cop
and
>Last Action Hero
>Raw Deal
>Collateral Damage
Also True Lies
Post it
All 3 of them are butthole chud douchebags
Arnold > Stallone > Van Damm > Mel Gibson > everyone else.
>Mel Gibson
huh?
Lethal Weapon, Braveheart, Mad Max.
Also add Bruce Willis on the list before "everyone else".
also Payback
>Mel Gibson
we really dont think of him as an action hero because he did other genre films, but you spot on.
For me, it's turbo-depressed End of Days Arnold.
End of days is unironically kino.
don't remember him being so jacked in predator
Really?
Okay..
I recognize everything but row 1 column 4, row 2 column 3 (Eraser, only saw partially), row 3 column 1? row 3 column 3 is True Lies? And row 4 columns 1 and 2, I need to know please.
>row 1 column 4
T3
>row 3 column 1
Kindergarten cop
>row 3 column 3
True Lies
>row 4 columns 1 and 2
Hercules In New York and Raw Deal
>row 1 column 4
Last Action Hero
cope
Blind frick there is no T3 in that,
>row 1 column 4
Last Action Hero
This. It's not even close. Even Stallone who's probably the number 2 action guy is only a fraction of Arnold. No one will ever live up to Arnold's greatness. The amount of 10/10 movies he has is insane.
What's wild is he doesn't have "range" per say but it's like the roles he plays bends into his personality. He must also have one hell of an agent.
>if Big Boss really was Kojima
it's the beard and sunglasses and the hair
What is the sixth one, I can't recall it but I know I know it.
Running man
thanks bro
>itz nought ah tumeah
Dolf lol was never even at the same level.Stallone was good but ultimately Shwartz had best movies overall so he won this competition.
Bruce
He had like 2 good movies.
And they mog everyone else
any of that
topples that
DH 1 and 3, scrap the other seven.
Last Boy Scout? Jackal? Red?
The frick is your beef with 2?
idk, just didn't flip that well with me. maybe I need to see it again, but I kinda slogged through it
That's T3?! well, tbh I never saw it, T2 peaked for me. never finished kindergarten cop. hercules in new york seems kino if a demi0god is in a toga and raw deal it the one I hear often about but never connect. thanks Jay
Jackal was meh, kinda fun but it came out in a time when there was frick ton of same shit movies every month ALSo he is not action hero in that,
Red was cringe trash.
And i admit lol i completly forgot the Last Boy Scout its a decent movie but not on level of great.
was his punisher good?
no
So who of this guys was best in role? Tv was good i dont lie but what was better Thomas Jane one or Ray Stevenson? Kinda have a sweet spot for both Jane and Stevenson.
It has kind of a pulpy charm to it and might have had potential if it had anything besides a d-tier budget but no, not really. It's just another quick & dirty 80's action movie where they tried to cash in on a brand without putting much effort into it. Lundgren looks 100% right, though.
Ridiclously underrated film, that kinda shits the bed in later of act 2.
The original ending was really dark but they cut it (he just shoots the mobsters kid too).
Lundgren is the best Frank Castle. It kinda does what Mad Max 3 does later and just turns into disney shit i guess?
He has one memorable part and its M:I.
Stallone has more variant than Stallone, he can direct and write too, and his movies are more 'serious'.
Arnold has many iconic roles and delivers some of the most memorable lines in cinema history.
As an action guy i think Arnold is just 'better'. But cinema wise Stallone carved a bigger mark.
i mena yeah Dolf did a good job also i loved his PTSDs and Destructive behavior but cmon Yakuzas as villains was made so fricking cringe here even more cringe then Robocop 3 with that Cyber ninja. SUCH A WASTE
Wish they go for a more serious shit like in Black Rain
>You're dead, soldier
>No, I'm ALIVE
KINOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
>ear necklace
Read about Tiger Force.
Honestly sad for Dolf he is amasing actor and had unique look. Sadly he didnt have any luck with great scrips aka he didnt do waht Arnold and Stallone did and they found and made movies for themselfs.
Like take the Predator, or Terminator. Arnold even spent his own money to star in this and make it better.
I think we underestimate just how hard it was to get quality films made as an action star. Arnold and Stallone hit it big out of the gate and so had some leverage to get things greenlit. Lundgren never got his Conan or Rocky. MOTU was supposed to be that but it didn't hit like it was supposed to and after that he was relegated to the Van Damme / Seagal tier where he might get a universal soldier but never a T2.
I think we consistently underestimate how chickenshit movie studios are. They lowballed even established franchises like Superman until they ruined them. They thought Captain America wasn't worth even a mid-tier budget. Everyone besides New Line told Peter Jackson to frick off with LOTR unless he wanted condense the entire trilogy to two hours. They did not like taking chances. It was easier to make some $10 mil piece of shit that was guaranteed to turn a profit once VHS sales factored in than to spend what it might have cost to make an actually good MOTU film or any capeshit that wasn't Batman. There wasn't much of niche for guys like Dolph
I saw I Come In Peace (aka Dark Angel) recently and it was pure 90s action kino. Dolph was a hunk and the plot was absurdly great. The acting sucked but that only added to the enjoyment. 9/10 would recommend
Red Scorpion is a good Rambo clone from around that time as well.
Stallone's problem is he undermined his own reputation by alternating between schlock and kino. Rocky and First blood are legitimately good, but then he took both characters and turned them into cartoons. Over the Top is kind of fun but it's also ridiculous and not in a self-aware way. He made an action comedy with one of the golden girls. He made a Dredd movie where Dredd has a comedy sidekick played by Rob Schneider. He made Assassins.
He lacked quality control sometimes and sustained his career by revisiting his most popular franchises over and over again until they became parodies of themselves. Arnold was much more judicious, or at least he used to be. The whole genre went to shit at some point and took them down with it but in their primes Arnie almost always made good choices and worked with the right people. Stallone left you scratching your head sometimes.
dissapointing movie
Yes you are
Its Tom Cruise.
Right now yeah, there is no doubt. But i think we mostly talk about golden age and at that time Tom was at the level of Dolf or Van Damme.
Arnold by a lot and Jackie is second
Mel Gibson
Jackie Chan
Bruce Willis
What about Curt Rassel?
kek, Jackie Chan on his prime could take the three of them, at the same time
That was fricking kino.
The entire film is criminally underrated
Stallone won
Well Arnold with his troll fetish. ITs sad yeah i kinda want to see how sexy chick from Arnold would look like.
Arnold has two daughters though, one is married to Chris Pratt
Oh frick me i didnt know! And they look like him too just smoothed with sand paper and soap lol!
Arnold does have daughters though. And atleast his latino son wants to be more like him.
Cool shirt
Why is the latino son superior to the others?
being an illegitimate goblin, he wants to please his father having to vie for attention.
He eats better and works out, taking advantage of the genetic gifts. The Kennedy’s are lazy spoiled fat fricks and squandered it all.
>latino
what a waste
god damn
>tfw no 10/10 daughter harem
It's funny how they always played meatheads but they are actually pretty smart considering everything they achieved outside of just being jacked.
Arnold and Stallone had a good brain for this biseness they also helped so many actors to made it big and saved them from starving death.
Isn't dolf also pretty smart? He is chemist.
Why is Dolf even in that picture? He's not even part of the conversation.
Schwarzenegger by fricking far. Way better movies. Super iconic. It all went to shit after Terminator 3, or The Sixth Day.
And then even later when he got back into acting, almost everything of his was was trash. Some okay outliers, but nothing great anymore and you could see that his charisma had waned.
Stallone had a revival around 2000-2010 era. Good for him, but that too seems to have past.
Rambo 4 is the last true 80's action movie.
Lundgren doesn't really belong. Just a solid dude in some of his more famous roles, but doesn't come close to approaching the other two.
(best)
Stallone had-
First Blood which is absolute kino and was more serious and gritty, and Rocky (witch honestly i never liked) but is a good movie.
Arnold had-
Conan
Terminator 1 and 2
Predator
Total recall
>shimmy slides in your path
>Tom Cruise will find this and pay homage with his own black tank top scene/movie
Rolling for it bros
Just as an action star, I think Arnold, but I think Stallone is the most talented in general, at least when it comes to film because Lundgren has his academics outside of his acting. Arnold is great in action movies, but I don't think he could do a role like Rocky or Cop Land, and while he could do a lot of First Blood I don't think he'd land the speech at the end. I just rewatched Rocky Balboa the other day, and that movie's 80% just Rocky going around being sad while sad piano music plays, and I could never see Arnold doing something like that.
Stallone wrote Rocky, of course he's the most talented
I think Stallone had more range as a dramatic actor and you're right that Arnold could never pull off some of the First blood or Rocky scenes but at the same time I think Arnold was a much better comedic actor which he doesn't get much credit for. Stallone tired to be funny on occasion but he honestly wasn't very good at it aside from the dry humor in something like Rocky.
He could be pretty dead pan in Tango and Cash.
" I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them (the Native Americans and israelites), if that's what you're asking. Our so-called stealing of this country from them was just a matter of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves." - John Wayne, Playboy Magazine interview, May 1971
Stallone was the Beter actor, but Arnold was in more kino. although first blood maybe the best. Action movie.
Dalf doesn't even come into the conversation sweetie
Arnold, easily. He just has too many standout Action movies. Stallone is up there, but he's no Arnold.
Tony Scott and it isn't even close
>Top Gun
>Days of Thunder
>Crimson Tide
>Enemy of the State
>a bunch more i can't remember right now
True Romance
I also liked Man on Fire but that was around the time where his weird affectations started to dominate his films.
>puke filters over everything
>random subtitles even for english dialogue
>shaky cam / blurry cam
>editing looks like it was done by a tweeker who just got the good shit
And it's weird that people just sort of accepted it. I don't think I've ever seen such a dramatic stylistic shift by a director after decades of fairly consistent work. If you watch Domino and Top Gun it's hard to believe they were made by the same person. Given that he was on some pretty heavy meds towards the end there I wonder if it was less of an artistic choice than a symptom of a guy struggling with something. His later movies feel like they were made by someone with an unsettled mind
Conan the Barbarian is one of the greatesr movies of all time.
The others don't have anything that comes close to it.
Dolf wasn't the biggest star but his background of having an MIT scholarship for chemical engineering, literal genius IQ, and then chucking it all to frick Grace Jones and play make believe for a living makes him based beyond belief.
Arnold hands down. 80’s/90’s Van Damme is underrated and too frequently left out of these discussions.
kill frick marry
For me, it's Blackjack. A John Woo-directed telemovie (it was a pilot that never got picked up) starring Dolph as a private detective who has to act as a bodyguard for his girlfriend/therapist (which raises questions in itself) who's played by the beautiful blonde bully from Pretty in Pink. He's terrified of the color white, which naturally means he wears sunglasses at nearly all times and the film culminates in a gun battle in a milk factory.
Hardly essential Woo but it's pretty decent.
I would've said myself, but somebody else named me in the this thread already.
Stallone and Arnold before he went into comedy
I also like Van Damme movies
Stallone.
His actually have heart and soul
Arnold is ham with movie one liners., not that im complaining.
ahnold became a face diaper cuck
frick that moron
