I stopped reading comics when Bendis took over Superman. It's when I realized that it's impossible to create good stories when you have multiple authors in charge of the same overarching narrative. I know there's good stuff out there besides capeshit, but I'm too busy nowadays to really bother seeking it out anyway. But yeah Dan Mora is awesome. Juan Ferreyra has a similar artstyle that I really like.
The thing about Mora is that he draws like two books a month and covers so his art goes for a more fast approach, and the fact that he can get so much done is impressive. Besides, what’s wrong with stylization?
>Looks like a guy that learned to draw by looking at drawings, not the real world
Only hacks who’s art looks stiff and lifeless because they never moved on from reference say this shit. It’s almost never true.
The guy has a poor knowledge of anatomy
He can't even draw hair well
Those characters are just standing in flat poses, there's nothing dynamic about that drawing
He doesn't use black well, he hatches instead
The hatching he does use is random as frick - it's something iffy artists do to make their work look more complicated than it really is
When he does use black it's to get out of drawing the background
Look at the charger in the foreground, his face is lopsided
Maybe there's better examples of his work, but that's a poor drawing
Or he needs a better inker to clean up his work
If that guy does it fore you, more power to you, but that guy doesn't draw well
pepe larraz, schitti drew a very handsome magneto & vulcan last week
stopped reading shang-chi but i like to's art
the more pencil-y bits of warworld have been nice
Is there even any synergy?
I know I heard something about an OC from the show coming to the comics, but so far the book is just helping get Mark back to normal.
McKay said that he wanted to start it simple. Because if mental illness or Khonshu came in they dominate the book. He wanted a street level book that he could slowly build. And we are seeing that as more and more supernatural stuff are added.
While his lineart isn't very clean, it doesn't have to be. And his insane color game, design sensibilities and incredible scene detail really most pages of his comics a sight to behold.
>an illiterate powellgay can’t even scroll there thread
Like clockwork you vermin do this. The goon is more capeshittty than echolands you drooling tard.
The problem with Shaner is that he's so goddamn slow he doesn't even have a single book drawn all by himself. All he does is pinups, which to me is kinda lame after awhile. He needs his own New Frontier style book and not random Convergence tie-ins, Hanna Barbera books or girlpower Shazam.
It's sort of how I feel about Kevin Nowlan, although in his case I give him a bit more of a pass since he does the inking, coloring and lettering himself.
Amazing series. Found the Burlyman issues at a comic shop in Somerville and it was probably one of my best finds. Also met him at a con but I only blurted out that I liked his stuff and bought a poster.
yea for me its certainly more of an artbook than a storybook, but at the same time it's nice to have a relatively isolated story each issue, makes it easy reading
I’ve never gotten how modern comics are considered to have a house style. Unless drawing semi realistically is considered house style. Even then clay Mann is nothing like Dan Mora or Jiminez
If you were in charge of a comic book stylized video game, whose art would you base the game's art direction on? Too many comic games just use the generic realistic art style. I want something extremely stylized next.
>Tf is a comic my homie? You mean like Patrice O’Neil?
That's a common misconception, but Cinemaphile historians maintain that the "Comics" parts of "Comics & Cartoons" actually used to refer to some sort ancient type of visual storytelling that consisted of a series static images often accompanied by some text, kinda like some sort of proto memes.
The frick is a proto? That some sort of pronoun my homie? You one of them gays my homie?

>The frick is a proto? That some sort of pronoun my homie? You one of them gays my homie?
Yeah, what i was trying to say is that comic are some gay shit nobody care about, glad you understood.
Not at all, the color on the book is actually horrific. It doesn’t look anything like older comics at all. It looks like the typical digital coloring of the day.
Damn I forgot Cinemaphile doesn't actually read comics...
I'm just here for the porn frankly
Did you say Frankie?
heh
Well, I'll read comics if they are available for free. Not paying a single dime for current comics.
Also, João Ruas is my favourite artist, but he mostly does cover arts.

Jorge Jimenez at DC and Pepe Larraz at MArvel
I’m enjoying this art so far
J.H. Williams III
He's definitely one of the best but has he done anything since Sandman Overture?
Echolands since last year.
Dan Mora is my favorite too, at least of the newer crop.
Whichever one draws the best coomer material
Love his work on Power Rangers and Once & Future
His Power Rangers art is sick
Has he done any Power Rangers interiors or just covers?
That art is just kinda meh
Looks like a guy that learned to draw by looking at drawings, not the real world
Poor line work, poor use of black
Ok well everyone has their opinion. Who do you like right now?

You're completely, absolutely wrong. You're saying popular phrases but none of them apply to Dan Mora's art
Look at that drawing

Larraz draws tge best hair
I think Mora and Jimenez are doing the best work in the biz currently
Cappuccio has been hitting it out of the park with Moon Knight.
>> When the synergy hits
Is there even any synergy?
I know I heard something about an OC from the show coming to the comics, but so far the book is just helping get Mark back to normal.
its not exactly synergy, the book is just easy to digest
i feel like mckay was told to keep it simple if new readers wanted to pick it up
McKay said that he wanted to start it simple. Because if mental illness or Khonshu came in they dominate the book. He wanted a street level book that he could slowly build. And we are seeing that as more and more supernatural stuff are added.
Oh wow that's awesome I'll have to check it out
Eh. Not quite Sienkiewicz, Shalvey, or Smallwood.
I agree but I'd post a different page, especially the bottom left panel
the eyes and especially the moon in that image just had me absolutely floored
Rod Reis on New Mutants is kind of the only reason I even look at any X-men title right now.
For me (current ongoings) it's:
Dan Mora
Jorge "Gorgeous" Jiminez
Glen Melkinov
Mike Allred
Javier Rodriguez
Riccardo Federici
Daniel Sampere
It's a blessing for your favorite characters to be drawn by him
Zatanna looks great on his style
For me its Abbadon / Orbital dropkick
While his lineart isn't very clean, it doesn't have to be. And his insane color game, design sensibilities and incredible scene detail really most pages of his comics a sight to behold.
I don't like how he draws women
Dan Mora is so impossibly fast for how good he is. He can almost do 2 monthly books at a time, that is nuts!
But my fav is JHWIII doing Echolands or anything DWJ does. Do a Powerbomb issue one nailed it again.
i love gary frank's clean, classic, detailed style
His work doesn't always fit superheroes but I agree. The guys a genuinely good draftsman.
He's honestly come a long way. His early stuff got shit on as uncanny but he's certainly much more respected now
James Stokoe
this is very sex
It is.
Dan Mora style BruHalClark when.
Tonci Zonjic, no question
Dan mora is good
Pic related. Whoops -- forgot. Cinemaphile is a capes only joint.
I would say The Goon is pretty popular around /go/
Nice persecution complex
>an illiterate powellgay can’t even scroll there thread
Like clockwork you vermin do this. The goon is more capeshittty than echolands you drooling tard.
it's always Kirby, it never could be anyone else, followed closely by Mazzucchelli or Gibbons, i'm a simple man.
runners up would be cooke and maybe even cully hamner. nice guy, the latter
oh how could i forget Doc Shaner. he's tied with cooke for that glorious toon style
>he’s tied with Cooke
No he isn’t and never will be, fricking have a nice day
he is, actually
He isn’t, actually.
hmmmmm actually he is, and you can literally never convince me otherwise, thanks though!
Kys shaners got zero storytelling ability and very little technical skill, his compositional and sequential ability is extremely limited.
He’s a purely gimmick artist which is why he isn’t given long lead time books. He isn’t worth it.
>he's tied with cooke
yeah this is blasphemous, he makes pretty pictures, not comics, not worlds
Cooke is overrated as a technical artist. Great graphic designer, limited drawing ability
The problem with Shaner is that he's so goddamn slow he doesn't even have a single book drawn all by himself. All he does is pinups, which to me is kinda lame after awhile. He needs his own New Frontier style book and not random Convergence tie-ins, Hanna Barbera books or girlpower Shazam.
i dont disagree, give him a black label book with enough leeway that i can get 3 issues over the course of a year and i'll be content
I just checked and he lists Supergirl as one of the books he's drawn on his bio. It was a single fill-in years ago about her at a space bar. Jesus
It's sort of how I feel about Kevin Nowlan, although in his case I give him a bit more of a pass since he does the inking, coloring and lettering himself.
I though this thread was about recent artists.
OP used the language "at the moment" so i included some of my all time favorite artists and some of my favorite artists currently in the game.
thought*
Jamal Campbell has hit a consistent like from me.
James Harren or Scott Hepburn.
He really is, every issue of this comic puts a smile on my face. Been a fan since Klaus and happy to see his career flourish.
chiang is doing great work rn, colors too
I never liked his art.
Amazing series. Found the Burlyman issues at a comic shop in Somerville and it was probably one of my best finds. Also met him at a con but I only blurted out that I liked his stuff and bought a poster.
was it comicaze? great shop, got some good issues of kirby's demon there
Yup. Also got a lot of classic Iron Man and Bregfoyle era Batman from there as well.
I buy Red Room to support it but mostly just flick through
yea for me its certainly more of an artbook than a storybook, but at the same time it's nice to have a relatively isolated story each issue, makes it easy reading
Rugg really impressed me with these. Hadn't seen much of his work previously.
Piskor has some great artwork too, on the subject of the kayfabers. love me some red room
Ryan Ottley has been a favorite of mine since the Conquest fight in Invincible
Who's the demon guy?
I liked Philip Tan's work in the armageddon storyline for Spawn.
His name is Nezha. You should read the Batman/Superman worlds finest run that's happening right now. Written by Waid and art by Mora.
Fiffe
Graham
Stokoe
Maclean
Rugg
Scioli
Huddleston
Don't really care for Piskor, or the dime a dozen house style artists at DC and Marvel right now
god youre cool
I’ve never gotten how modern comics are considered to have a house style. Unless drawing semi realistically is considered house style. Even then clay Mann is nothing like Dan Mora or Jiminez
Your problem is you're only pointing to artists with name recognition. Think of all the other books out now with fill in jobbers
Even then they don’t really look that much alike, not like house styles in the 70s and 80s.
Of the classics George Perez(rip) is my favorite
OH
GOMEZ
how could i forget
Checked and thighpilled
If you were in charge of a comic book stylized video game, whose art would you base the game's art direction on? Too many comic games just use the generic realistic art style. I want something extremely stylized next.
Perez' style. The way he draws power fx would look cool on a videogame
Cosmic Silver Surfer game in the style of Jack Kirby
>recently active artists
JHW III
DWJ
PCR
Tradd Moore
James Stokoe
James Harren
Michael Cho is the closest artist these days to Cooke,
Matias Bergara
Skottie Young
Chris Samnee
Partydog

I believe those are called comics pages.

Much better.
*O'Neal
Dragotta's work in East of West is some of the best stuff of the past decade imo.
Meh. I'm liking Ghost Cage better.
>Meh. I'm liking Ghost Cage better.
Good for you, dude.
Frick you.
Otto Schmidt... just because.
Dick girls?
>moment
dude was killing it since fricking Klaus
Any others, OP?
guillermo march, mikel janin and jorge jimenez
>mikel janin
Dogshit.
His work on this book, along with the color palette, recalls Garcia-Lopez' 80s models/aesthetic for the DC universe
Not at all, the color on the book is actually horrific. It doesn’t look anything like older comics at all. It looks like the typical digital coloring of the day.
And Mora’s line work is NOTHING like JLGL’s. Wtf is anon smoking?
