So of all the shit that followed T3 were there any decent ideas or concepts that might have been good had they followed i a timely fashion or been right? I feel like the only place this needed to go after T2 was future war film about John Conner but I do like the idea of a Terminator living among humans trying to stay unnoticed snd slowly learning to relate to them could have been cool if used properly.
The action set pieces were great. Crane chase in particular was fantastic. Ending was good too. The silly stuff was just too cringe, and it was unfortunate that they couldn't get Furlong back due to him being a druggie.
Imo it should have just been two Arnold t800s against each other, with the rest of the plot kinda plying out the same way.

You know what the terrifying thing is? As bad as Brancato and Ferris’s shooting script is, their earlier draft, Tedi Sarafian’s draft and the various other takes on T3 the studio commissioned scripts for are somehow even worse. Worst of all, Hollywood seems to have a thing about paying for an idea so they have to use it, most of the ideas in those shitty scripts made it into Salvation, Genisys (especially Genisys), and Dark Fate.
It's not just the script, the looks so cheap and flat, completely pedestrian, like a tv movie. Everything about this project is half-assed and low grade.
Not disputing any of that. I’m genuinely mystified how T3 isn’t considered the worst entry in the franchise.

There’s lot of neat shit; like Doctor Silberman working with the FBI group that believes Sarah now and a sequence where the president talks with the director of the Skynet program, but then it’s revealed he was talking to Skynet the whole time who was deepfaking the director.
But like I said, it needed another draft or two to smooth things over. Like mentions of Sarah dual wielding G36 assault rifles and the female terminator having the ability to become a particle swarm - though it being able to read the electrical impulses of a person’s brain and effectively read their thoughts is sorta neat and makes for a cool moment where it gets Sarah alone.
The biggest reason T3 sucks is probably the most obvious one, namely how it goes against the ideas of T2 on which it is stated that there is no fate, no certainties. The future was not written so there was hope...
T3 takes a big step back with it´s "it was all part of skynet´s plan" approach. Add to that the absence of Linda Hamilton (and that they killed her off screen) and the terrible miss cast for both the female terminator and the new John Connor and you get a disaster.
Plus, always a terrible idea to show how apocalypse actually happens. From a cinematographic point of view it´s one of those things better left to the imagination.
T2 went against T1 because T1 was clearly a closed timeloop. T2 only gets a pass because it was executed well.

T3 shouldn't have been made and was very flawed overall but it had some really great parts that actually felt like Terminator. I look at it all like expanded universe or fanfic. Just enjoy it for what it is. It doesn't actually harm what came before. It's all pretend. You pick your own canon perimeters.

The original script of T3 was that this new evil Terminator has the ability to corrupt machines so early in the movie she would corrupt Arnold and every now and then he would malfunction and try to kill John Connor. You never knew when it would happen and it made the movie more like horror and the first movie. They didn't like that and instead wanted the tone of the 2nd movie so they scrapped that idea but you can see a small echo of this idea towards the end when she corrupts Arnold at the end and John Connor has to talk him out of killing him.
