Yeah this. Satanism's gone from being the subject of ye olde horror movies to some strange edgelord reactionary thing. Honestly it's just 2007-12 internet atheism repackaged slightly, it'll pass in a few years.

What you should be asking is why a Chinese MMO is using the Ars Goetia and Pseudnomica Demonica for Names and character behavior for many of their major characters.

        >What you should be asking is why a Chinese MMO is using the Ars Goetia and Pseudnomica Demonica for Names and character behavior for many of their major characters
Same reason as NGE: it's cool, exotic, and the names carry puissance, in the same way a western property might throw out an eye of Horus or Muramasa

the horror of the digital circus is that it's a cheap imitation of reality- the kind of cushy faux-freedom that our hylic corporate overlords want us to live in.
it's a world that actively works to destroy the souls and identity of its inhabitants by its very nature. caine is an artificial demiurge.

Explosm has Purgatony, which is about a mediocre guy working 24/7/Infinity in Purgatory, judging souls to go to heaven and hell while trying not to go insane. Half the cast are demons or ascended demons, Tony’s best friend is a Satanist who’s otherwise a chill dude(he didn’t get into heaven due to Tony accidentally getting him to start a suicide cult), and we see hell a bit

Because Satanism and the occult are too taboo for mainstream tv (unless it’s some defanged Harry Potter type BS) so when creators get the opportunity to make something without constraints, they’ll explore areas they wished they could have seen more of.

naw, but that could be an extra perk. Whatever is taboo or forbidden is often viewed as cool. It's the reason why teens traditionally wanted to smoke (or I guess vape now) despite knowing of the health risks.

The people creating indie animation now were once outcast artsy preteens who went to Hot Topic (despite swearing they never go to Hot Topic because it's for posers). Stuff like satan/occult/witchcraft were coded as being counter-culture which was edgy and cool so when they got old enough and skilled enough to make their own shit, it would be influenced by a lot of the things they always wished they could have seen more of growing up. Harry Potter did a lot to open the floodgates and completely defang occult related topics which made the public more receptive and Karen's less 'pitchforky' when it came to breaching those topics. Now witches are the good guys on Disney cartoons. Unfortunately we skipped right over the fun dark phase and made a b-line for god damned musicals...the place where cultural ephemera are confirmed dead.
