Back in the day bullying was fricking intense. I remember walking home from school, and a squad of wannabe gangbangers in their shitty lifted trucks would chase me down and throw rocks at me and shout "run forest run!"

Hollywood writers are all rich kids that have never been bullied, and they don't consider the shit they did to the losers in their highschools to be bullying.

Oh wow I didn't even see that anon already took the words out of my mouth before I posted

Because the people who are in Hollywood were the ones who DID the bullying. They have no idea what it's like to be bullied, they don't even know what it's like to bully someone because they didn't see their own actions as bullying because they're such narcissistic pieces of shit.

Because the people writing them didn't get bullied, nobody liked them because they were massive c**ts.
    >can't show that they got a swirley because they made fun of someone bigger than them so it happened at random.

What is this character trope called?

      The name is Alpha b***h.

"I take it as a rule of nature that all American high schools are ruled by a pack of snobs, led by a supremely confident young woman who is blond, superficial, catty, and ripe for public humiliation. This character is followed by two friends who worship her, and are a little bit shorter".

Because real bullying isn't very convincing.
Most of it is in the "victim's" head. Seriously, "bullied" kids cry about being excluded from some activity or just being called names as banter. If you showed that on TV people would think the "victim" is a huge b***h, which is basically true for 99% of "bullied" kids.

True, bullying is hard to explain most of the time. it's like i feel like i've been bullied, and i know their intention was to bully me, but if i try to explain exactly what happened it'll sound like barely anything happened
hard to translate to the screen

They did that in 30 Rock. Tiny Fae didn't want to go to her high school reunion since she was bullied. She goes with Alec Baldwin and she tries to confront her bullies. Turns out it was all in her head and she was actually being b***hy.

Because in real life most people who get bullied, in American schools, deserve it for being blatantly weird or obnoxious and it almost always ends when the victim fights back. The second most prevalent bullying is racial in nature with black kids being the aggressors and white kids being the victims.

You aren't allowed to portray either of these scenarios in modern media so you have to default to the Stephen King school of bully portrayal. Which is where the bully is a literal soulless psychopath bent on murdering the protag.
