Millennials had Miami Vice reruns growing up in the 90s & early 2000s since the show only ended in 89. Plus they had GTA Vice City as one of their cultural touchstones. It's not completely out of place in the same way Columbo is for zoomers.

    1. It was shot on film so they can easily make an HD version. Many shows cut their budget so they were shot on video tape, keeping it to a kind of low resolution forever.
    2. It was a movie of the week show, meaning it had much higher production values.
    3. The setting is about rich people murderers. It avoids any divisive social issues and rich people fashion has largely unchanged.
    4. The show is very laid back and just about talking. It's not an action show. Women love this shit.

Kids have always been slaves to trends. The reason the whole "if u rember dis ur childhood was awsum" shit exists is because everyone consumed the shit on TV, you had to keep up with your friend group. Only emotionally stunted adults escape the cycle because they have nobody to talk to, and thus they don't get the painful "oh you didn't see the latest capeshit movie?" watercooler conversations.

They did this, but with an XBox, in Law & Order UK.

I was born in 1989 but why would they need to pretend? It's a good show.

it's not exactly from my time (I was born in 1983) but I still watched it a lot in my childhood, so it's good to rewatch it again

people started all the parody memes like a year ago and columbo is free on tubi so a ton of people, not just zoomers, went and watched it
columbo has always been really comfy
nowadays a lot of people seem to appreciate the slower pace compared to every recent show that tries to be an action drama soap opera constantly

Growing up everyone called my dad columbo, both in the way he looked and the absent-mindedness I suppose. I've never seen this series, what do they mean by this?

Zoomers only love Columbo literally because all his criminals are white elites and they think it's pro-Commie because Columbo is a working class schlub who puts them behind bars

Are zoomers trying to ruin columbo with their dumb tiktoks or something?

I grew up watching Columbo. I'm not old my grandparents just loved it. That and Quincy MD. I was really surprised to find out Columbo is popular with young people now. But I don't think they know why they like it.

It's likely just that a new generation is finding it. There's re-runs on broadcast tv stations, and at least last I checked, it was something Peawiener had available for watching without a subscription (but with ads). It's been especially easy to re/watch in the past few years.

I was born in 95 and my sister 99. Columbo was my moms favorite show so lot of fond memories of watching it with her while I drew in my notebook.

Now I have to move on to Nero Wolfe to have a more obscure, comfy detective show to keep feeling superior to the rabble.

The episodes from the 60s/70s are absolutely kino. The cash-grab stuff from the 90s/00s are sad and pathetic and should never have been made. They almost ruined the legacy.

I mean what shows would rather zoomers be watching? I would rather them watching something legitimately good like Columbo than utter garbage like Euphoria

Zoomers should stop appropriating Gen X culture. That was the whole point of the thread.

I'm born 1997 and we had a "classics" channel for a few years so I watched many of the non-'90s episodes there. Very comfy show to watch with family on a normal weekday evening together with your family.
