The moment you take away the violence and the scares, you take away the adventure. Exploring a new undiscovered cave with your flashlight is an adventure. Exploring a well-lit tourist cave with safety railings and merchandise shops everywhere is not an adventure.
Your story changes from Indiana Jones to lame school book "adventures" the moment you make it safe and take away the spice. And you can't add in spice to your story if you're constantly afraid of upsetting anyone.
