Why aren't there more?

Why aren't there more /m/ fighting games?
Endless Duel is obviously THE masterpiece, why aren't there modern ones? What's stopping them?
Also, is pic related any good?

Pic related is not good, no. I don't know, I don't play any games made after the PS2 era. Fighting game communities are made up of autists who can't keep their shirts on.

regular fighting games barely sell and you want them to make ones about robots?

This. Outside of the major players like Capcom, Bamco and ArcSys most fighting games are pretty niche these days.
Your only hope is Bandai asking ArcSys to make one but they'd be pretty stupid to not just keep milking Dragon Ball.

the SEED one in GBA was okay, only being held back by the fact that it's on a GBA. I personally liked it better than KOF EX. sequel is better in every regard but left untranslated.

The sequel is not that hard to navigate if you have played Battle Assault and you have watched SEED: Destiny, and there's guides around if you have troubles with the Shop menu. It feels like a very solid expansion on top the previous game. Hell, you can unlock it and play it.
It's a good game but having only A, B and the shoulder buttons to play hurts it, especially getting used to Manual and Automatic gameplay. It's truly a shame it didn't receive an international release.

Bruh even in what I guess could be deemed a second renaissance of fighting games, the genre is still pretty slim and niche and it's in the sort of circumstances where a mecha fitegaem could stand to actually alienate more players than it would attract, even if it develops a very tight knit circle who will swear by it being a masterpiece.

It's a small industry, the devs in it know how small and tight it is, the fans know that fresh blood is a precious commodity.

Why are they trash? And what are some real games?

Why would you make a mecha fighting game if its just gonna play the same as a regular fighting?

I dunno, does Cyberbots and Tech Romancer play like every other fighting game?

Because fighting games hardly convey what the appeal of a giant robot is. Just because you made the background scaled to make the fighters look massive doesn't mean it doesn't just play like most other games.

Gundam VS is a fighting game.

This, it's still going strong in the arcades, it's just not a traditional 2D fighting game ala Street Fighter and the like.

Gundam VS is the only good arena fighter that's still going

Even in an already niche subgenre, Gundam still has to dominate everything.

It was pretty fun, yeah. Kind of felt a bit Tech Romancery.

I prefer Battle Assault 2, but yeah it seems like a relatively low budget pc equivalent of Battle Assault 2 but with a frickton of DLC would be enough of a money printer

because gundam exvs mogs the entire arcade cabinet industry

Sales of traditional fighting games kind of fell apart in Japan after the PS2, and Gundam's international story is rather inconsistent, only now we seem to be getting the Gundam crossover games localized often.

Like mentioned above, Gundam has a big arena battle series that's a big success in Japanese arcades.
