10 Cloverfield Lane sucked and did not even have anything to do with the first movie. By putting "Cloverfield" though in the title they spoiled that aliens were going to show up.

Cabin in the Woods. It's not really good but it deals with moronic OP premise in a creative enough way.

Conceptually, something like Silent Hill (not so much the movie(s)) or As Above So Below is way more compelling.
A Quiet Place featured monsters that triggered an extinction event, no idea how though considering how easy it is to beat them apparently.
