They tried to make cloverfield into a franchise but it failed so now no one wants to do it.

How would you follow up on it? It ends with killing the monster by nuking Manhattan. I guess have another one show up in another city

More like they made a throw away shitty netflix movie after 2 well received films and threw the franchise in the garbage

Part of me feels like I wouldn't hold cloverfield in such high regard if I wasn't on forums and shit in 08 talking about it before the movie released

10 Cloverfield Lane sucked and did not even have anything to do with the first movie. By putting "Cloverfield" though in the title they spoiled that aliens were going to show up.

Cabin in the Woods. It's not really good but it deals with moronic OP premise in a creative enough way.

kek I thought the voiceover was a pajeet at first. it became kino when I realized it was a human being doing the voiceover

Good horror tone ruined by that moronic fricking voice, it sounds like some pajeet whispering into the ear of some passed out drunk girl he's captured

Conceptually, something like Silent Hill (not so much the movie(s)) or As Above So Below is way more compelling.

A Quiet Place featured monsters that triggered an extinction event, no idea how though considering how easy it is to beat them apparently.

The Mist (End of the world for most of the movie)
Hellboy (Demons invade earth at the climax but hellboy stops them)
    Godzilla 2000
War of the worlds (both adaptations)
    Pacific Rim

I dont know about any other movies where giant beasts or titans lay waste to humanity, please do recommend some
