Brits literally send their own citizens to prison over Facebook posts while Muslim rape gangs roam the streets.

Same reason they cast incredibly attractive actors in roles where a person would be a generic 6-7/10 normie.

Americans use media for escapism and love to see themselves in the role of the attractive hero.

Whereas Brits are much more down to Earth and depressive, they prefer to talk about how shit everything is and cringe at people showing positive emotion or over the top success

Is brit TV really that mean spirited? I cant think of anything that would compare to something like family.
The goofy satire of the British doesnt seem mean spirited

      This

Brits are pompous buttholes whose humor tends to be a bit harsh irl, but their shows are no more mean-spirited than American shows.

It's basically just Ricky Gervais' works that has a sort of malicious hostility behind his humor.

You can tell the difference watching both versions of The Office. Michael Scott comes across as a likeable well meaning guy who just makes forgivable mistakes. David Brent by comparison is an obnoxious self centered butthole that most people can barely tolerate. You are clearly meant to root for Michael and against David

US Office spent its entire run changing course to push whatever the fans seemed to like. Michael in the pilot is pretty sleazy and self-obsessed, but audiences latched onto him so they made him nicer. Jim and Pam relationship was supposed to fail in the end but audiences got invested in them so they backpedaled the plots that were supposed to drive them apart.

Michael was like that too initially. They only tried to give him redeeming qualities a few seasons in.
