It's all marketing... Barely any other movies have this kind of marketing, especially with Barbie. They shilled that shit up the fricking ass for months like it wasn't a complete waste of time woke piece of shit film. This is just a classic case of giving us what they want instead of what we want and then blaming us for it bombing.
The casting probably would have helped this a little bit. Kristen Stewart would fit in to the dirty sweaty world of Mad Max better, she actually looks similar to Charlize.
Instead we get flavor of the year Anya.
She was weird looking but cute. Now she just looks weird. She isn't a terrible actress but her career is due to the quality of the projects she was in.
All I can think is that she was miscast in this movie. Especially when she puts the bald cap on. I bet Kristen would have shaved her head for it.
All in all, it just wasn't a movie we needed to see.
They covered enough of Furiosa's backstory in Fury Road, we can infer the rest from the circumstances of that movie and who she worked for in it, why she would want redemption.
Miller is decades late for a character like Furiosa to be interesting.
She worked in Fury Road as a character for Max to help. Without him she is boring.

I never understand actors that refuse to do things like this for high profile projects. Like, if your a girl (it's dramatic and will take months to grow back) and you were doing a b level movie you were more being paid in exposure to do, ok, you have a right to be scared. But a top billing of a Hollywood movie? b***h you're not hurting for money and offers once this project is over.

That dipshit that played Doc Manhattan in the rightly forgotten HBO sequel to Watchmen also did a bald cap. And he doesn't even have the excuse of being a girl. Fricking hacks and weak ass producers that spoil these people rather than telling them to go frick themselves.

I went to see it in theaters and liked it, if you want an unpopular take:

It was too weird and dark for the mass audience. Fury Road is laid out like a theatrical production, with an almost constant level of tension and movement and an easy-to-follow plot (literally just a nonstop chase) subordinated to the cinematography and the choreography of real car crashes and Cirque de Soleil dancers. Furiosa is more like a long setpiece anthology drama with distinct stories that contain their own dramatic arcs. Apart from the very different pacing, the depictions of violence are much more callous and hopeless than Fury Road, possibly even more than the road bandit executions in the original Mad Max movies. It’s grittier and you do actually come to hate Dementus a little by the end, whereas Immortan Joe is sort of an elemental force you can’t help but look at and think “hell yeah”.

If they were Westerns I’d compare Fury Road to 3:10 to Yuma, a Lone Ranger special, or other films focused on spectacle. Furiosa was more like the Ballad of Buster Scruggs if all of the stories were about the same protagonist

Anya dealt with the "trauma" of shooting the movie "in the wastelands of Australia". Respect her "trauma", chuds.

Fury Road barely made a profit and this came out a decade later. The same was true for Beyond Thunderdome back in the 80s. The Mad Max franchise has always been a niche thing. I am tired of people on this board lumping this with the 'go woke' shit. George Miller owns the rights and does what he wants. He obviously had a lot of this planned during the development of Fury Road and had to get it out of his system. Max has been a passive character since Road Warrior who keeps stepping into other peoples stories. Furiosas story is interesting but Millers visual storytelling kind of hampers her and she jsut seems to stare bugged eyed at everyone. I just saw the movie and its pretty good but very disappointing when compared to Fury Road. The pacing and storytelling isn't quit as compelling as it should be and this feels like a side project by another director to be honest. Everybody looks like they are in front of virtual wallpaper and the previous realistic grit has completely gone out of the picture. That being said, there are some great sequences and i will want to watch the ending again with Dementus's fate. I just hope Miller can get the funding to have a proper send off for Max himself. Gibson would be great but i wouldnt mind Hardy or some other actor again and getting back to the gritty realism of Road Warrior whilst keeping the mythic quality.

I can think of a couple of reasons:
    >1. Released 10 years later after Fury Road hype has died down. People don't care anymore
    >2. Based on a side character people generally liked but nobody wanted to watch an entire movie center around
    3. Prequel that nobody asked for in a story we've already seen. The audience doesn't need to know every tidbit of backstory Furiosa, Immortan Joe etc have. There was enough in Fury Road, leave the fans guessing for more instead of revealing everthing.
    4. This is the 3rd story (including the game) in the 'Fury Road' universe, centered around the Citadel. Move the frick on, introduce new gangs, new locations, etc.
    5. And finally, it's a fricking Mad Max movie without... Mad Max Who the frick would want to watch that? Men won't, women don't like action movies. There's no audience for this

It wasn't though. It made a small profit at best, but generally speaking its cultural relevance and impact was far and above what it made at the box office. The problem is that they missed their chance on capitalizing on it, people have already forgotten about Fury Road. As good as that movie was, it released like 10 years ago, and Furiosa is nowhere near as good either in terms of effects or memorable lines. It's just Fury Road but worse.

This saved the movie, if they had a black Mad Max and Furiosa was canonically BLACKED, I would not be able to watch or defend this movie.
It's already a problem that they have white American actors trying awfully to act as Australians, forcing the writers to make the protagonists in both films almost entirely silent but to have Africans in outback Australia is a little silly. There still was blacks in the movie (not Aborigine, there was a lot of them which is believable), I know that Beyond Thunderdome exists.

The first one she loses and as a consequence her mom is executed, she spends around the next 30 minutes of the movie in bondage and the 20 minutes after that in disguise doing menial work. The 2nd fight she spends the majority of it hiding under a truck and only joins in to pick off the last few enemies once her side's forces are almost completely wiped out. The last fight she loses, gets captured, has her partner executed, and has to cut off her arm to escape. In no universe is this a girlboss movie

It missed its target audience because there is a culture war in the USA where the big studios were pushing homosexuality, female and diverse actors completely out of place and to the point of ridiculousness. This was led by the big investment firms like Blackrock who hold the studios by the balls with debt and the threat of divestment, forcing them to meet the firms ESG guidelines, this had a global effect as the US studios had their fingers in everything . The sad part is that this culture war never really applied to the Mad Max franchise because Miller had always used female actors in strong roles, had always cast without fear or favor all races, genders and sexual orientation.

I didn't think it was on the same level as Force Awakens or anything but it seems like Fury Road had wayyy more people talking about it irl and online than Avengers 2 or The Martian. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is on track to be the lowest grossing entry in the reboot series. I'm not sure <$400 million on a $160 million production budget will be viewed as much of a success.

People don't go to cinemas or even care about movies that much anymore. A prequel to a movie that came out a decade ago is basically invisible to the normies that went to see barbenheimer for brand recognition and Nolan/killian Murphy pulling power.
Everyone would probably enjoy blowing Anya's back out but she's not a big name movie star and female leads don't draw crowds.
Movie was good when watched with fury road although it's funny now that it's revealed Furiosa likes max essentially because he reminds her of her first boyfriend. The movie relied too much on cgi though.

Not going to waste my time with this sort of shit going round. Normal people don't clap for 5-6 minutes, paid shills and/or cultists do. Normal people saw the trailer, picked up the cringe vibe it was putting out, and stayed away.

Furiosa is a plot device in her own movie, she barely speaks. The movie is just an excuse for George Miller to play around with a unique setting, great villains and good action.
This movie had more soul than anything I've seen at the cinemas in the past 5 years.

When you add audio and watch it in the context of the rest of the scene without being primed to dislike it, I couldn't even notice the CGI in this scene. There are some scenes earlier in the movie with noticeable CGI, but not during any of the big action sequences

Is anyone else fricking tired of characters having a locket or some other kind of memento from someone who died and carrying it around the rest of the movie and then a handful of scenes of them pondering upon it throughout the film. I get this was a thing in fiction since at least the Regency Era, but I'm fricking tired of it

It all really boils down to one thing.

The black on black is iconic, and everybody who watches movies knows the name "Mad Max".

Absolutely nobody gives a frick about Furiosa, even if they watched the last MAD MAX movie. I wanted to watch Max finally get a movie for himself where he can do some old school shit with the Interceptor, instead I got a story where I already know the ending. What the frick?

the movie doesn't allow you to give a frick about furiosa, every time it settles down for like a minute and then you're back to getting pointless plot crammed down your gullet. if she actually fricked the guy she likes that would've been a character moment but she just planet of the apes forehead touches him, i hate movies.

So what happens when this series is inevitably revived in 15 years but they don't have any more classic cars to wantonly destroy?

How expensive would it be to just recreate them, realistically speaking? Could you technically, since you don't give a shit about safety or any of the sort, fabricate a body of a Ford Falcon, put it on the suspension or frame of a modern vehicle and make it run and look believable?

    >post apoc FEM lead
Fricking moronic, let’s start off with the fact that only guys like post-apocalypse settings
Next, what exactly would a woman do in that setting except breed. That’s it. She can’t outfight outgun or out drive any adult male so what exactly is she gonna do? Use her sexual desirability to get what she wants? Okay, but that flies out the window in post-apoc because anyone who would want to frick her could just as well just capture her and chain her to a bed, feed and water her and frick her whenever and whenever and however he wants
The ONLY way for a female to be respected in a setting like this is if she’s revered and mystified as a mother and life giver. Which I, believe me I didn’t watch the movie lmao. But I’m guessing “FURI-osa” isn’t portrayed as a mother and nurturer .

Because Furiosa is a simple character that works in an action movie with a simple plot, also the movie never expands on her character it just flies around that simplicity giving us a stupid reason to make her own movie. Why is she a fighter and not one of Joes breeders? Who knows just assume shit, whats ``skills`` do you need to drive the war rig or master the fury road? Dunno, how did Immortan Joe defeat Thor in battle? just guess it bro, why is there another Joe son in the movie and why we didnt see him in the previous movie if he didnt die? Stop asking questions
