      Wow that is pretty bad.

Even for the quipiversrse it's too much.

      Nope.

      >supposed four quadrant appeal, made for everyone blockbuster is going to make less than a three hour long sickdark emofest
      lol

      >four quadrant appeal
      No such thing any more.

The whole MCU is failing. This has nothing to do with anything about this movie in particular. What these numbers show is the damage done by bREE in the leadup to Endgame, combined with the woeful quality of Marvel TV, was much more significant than anyone thought.

This will be a brown moment for Feige and Chapek.

They took a recently released and beloved comic Gorr the God Butcher and combined it with a shitty comic then gave Wacky Wabreasts full control and made Ragnarok 2.0 Joe Rogan's stool humping comedy special the movie. They even bamboozled people that willingly would go to see it by showing the Guardians of the Galaxy in the trailer and having them frick off after the first 5 minutes. I think the people who make these movies hate them more than the people who want capeshit to fail at this point.

It has literally MONTHS in theaters with no competition, before Black Adam finally shits itself onto the screen in October.
It has every chance of tying Ragnarok, which would be seen as a success as China is completely going under Covid lockdown again.

Some intern put the worldwide total in the column for international total then added it to domestic. They're the only site that reported it that high.

  7. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

It won't lose money so it's not a flop, but it will make significantly less than Thor: Ragnarok. When comparing both movies after two weekends, Ragnarok had slightly less domestic and much higher international numbers. Ragnarok also had significantly better legs with a better week over week hold.

      >But it will make significantly less than Thor: Ragnarok.
Not too sure, Thor:R had more competition in theaters. L&T has like 10 weeks of 10mil opening nothingburgers to run against.

Wasn't talking about them, I'm talking about the poor bastards that actually showed up for this movie, and Eternals, and Dr. Strange: Mom. It's obvious there aren't as many, and Secret Wars movies aren't going to be the bump Avengers films were.

MoM did 50% over Strange 1, even without China. Eternals was one of the top 5 domestic films that shitty covid year, along with Shang-Chi and Black Widow. You're letting your wishful thinking get the better of you.

Yeah but that's not what the studio expects, the studio expects movies to be hits and be very profitable and well liked by people, hasn't been the case, only happened with Spider man and that was a Sony movie
Disney/Marvel are spending so much money on multiple projects and none of them have been profitable

Haven't paid to watch it fortunately. It sucks in several ways:
    -awful visual effects
-tonal incompetence, from "haha funny" to somber themes
    -terrible acting
    -woke bs
    -attempts to "deconstruct" Thor
    -ugly/walled female cast
    -predictability
    -directorial ineptitude in general
    -dullness

People seem to have forgotten what a catastrophe 2020-2021 was for theaters.
2020, even Birds of Prey was #3 domestically
The top 110 in 2021 were:
    1. No Way Home
    2. Shang-Chi
    3. Venom 2
    4. Black Widow
    5. F9
    6. Eternals
    7. Sing 2
    8. No Time to Die
    9. A Quiet Place II
    10. Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Cape films have yet to be dethroned, though Tom and Cameron may finally knock them to #3 (though #6 most likely).

      Anonymous

      *through #6 most likely
Assuming Cameron gets #1 (and I don't readily bet against Based James) then it's likely Black Panther and Top Gun battling for 2 and 3, Strange seems likely to hold onto 4, Ragnarok and Batman duking it out for 5-6, I have no idea what Black Adam is capable of.

Literally everybody on the face of the earth knows Avatar will dwarf Shazam but they're both holiday movies that will coast along all the way until March. Smaller films are able to make money that way. Everybody thinks I'm crazy but I bet Shazam 2 makes more than the first in the end.

I only saw the ending of this movie and then I heard that the little girl at the end is actually Chris Hemsworth's IRL daughter and I was just thinking how fricked up that is. Had no idea this dude had a daughter that's like 10-12. He's been filming capeshit nonstop her entire life, not even just Marvel shit, he did Ghostbusters and other crap for Sony during the downtime just cause. They refuse to kill off or retire his character and he's going to be around for another decade. It's fricking sad that the only time he'll get to spend with his daughter is in these stupid movies.

I think people are just tired of the MCU's tone. There's too many quips, it doesn't take itself seriously at all, it does the bare minimum with writing. Gorr is more of an excuse to have a Thor movie than something the writers wanted to genuinely make a film about, does that make sense? Like they might as well have just made a full on romantic comedy with Thor and have no villain, because that's what the movie feels like. You have a God butcher and a character dying of cancer in a movie trying to be as funny as this? Gorr doesn't even do much, and Zeus had no purpose other than sequel bait. Why even have these characters?
The MCU just love to laugh at itself, but now I think normies are starting to actually see the MCU as a joke. Say what you will about Top Gun but that movie knew when to crack jokes and when to be very serious.

I cannot believe that people still watch capeshit. Like, normalgays will watch these movies and then say "yeah it was okay, wouldn't watch it again" or "kind of bad, but not the worst", and then they'll watch the next one anyway, despite this being the 10th mediocre Marvel movie they've watched in a row. To them it's like a tradition to go see the newest capeshit when it comes out. At this point I'm convinced that it's all just sunk cost fallacy, and they only watch these movies because they don't want to miss out on any story because they're all connected.
