Blu-Ray commentary doesn't come out until September 26 (unless it's out on digital and we didn't know)
Art book doesn't come out until October
There is NOTHING else and NOTHING left in the mean time
It's basically an obligatory feature to help justify the price tag of a physical release
DreamWorks pads things out A LOT
I don't think kids even browse through the menu to do basic arts & crafts decorations
Movie barely had any marketing and it doesn't look particularly interesting. It looks like one of those straight to DVD/streaming movies and should never have been given a theatrical release.
>Movie barely had any marketing
The movie's plot was tailor-made to be unmarketable because of the last 15 minutes of the film since it hinges on a poorly done twist villain
There's only fight scene in the whole movie and it happens in it so you have to spoil the twist as a result
If the villain's twist wasn't revealed from the get-go in the marketing and played the plot straight, audiences would be walking in expecting a forbidden friendship between two girls that mends interspecies hostilities only to discover that it was all a lie and that the main character's family was in the right to hate her new best friend on principle
Wonder how it would look with the how to usual style like how to train your dragon or king fu panda. The animation just looks off and the story isn’t really for everyone
Yeah it's a shame. If there was a show they'd probably be hush-hush so hearing dreamworks hasn't picked it up for a series yet is unfortunate. At least there's the bad guys show to look forward to though
The thing with Bad Guys is that we knew it was already approved for production BEFORE the movei even came out
If Ruby's not even in the Kart Racing game, it's fricked
>It might contain some waifus you like,
The waifugays here are among the people most harsh toward this movie
Most people will just say it's bland and forgettable and move on
The actual people who thought this movie had potential have torn this movie to shreds from its botched messages, shockingly fricked up world building, how it sabotages itself with the writing decisions done, etc
If there was a series planned to come out anytime soon-ish, they'd already be working on it. It's actually fricking over.
Not him and this ties to the botched morals but Ruby doesn't have a choice to determine what she wants to even do as a kraken
Destiny always wins
Even Agatha can't abandon whatever the frick the call is and has to resume fighting even though she hates it
But yeah most of the fricked up world building stems from the mermaids being a society and race of teenage girls who were forced into hiding after losing a war
*do as a kraken and must continue participating in a race war and suppress other aquatic races with peace being an impossible lie
Ruby cannot break the cycle or dream of something better, she MUST continue the status quo
By the end of the movie, she's less of herself and more a compromise over how Agatha and Grandmamah want to raise her (even if Ruby even risking her life fighting invalidates everything Agatha sacrificed for)

Felix being a genuinely nice co-worker who was simply ignorant that Ralph felt underappreciated and Metro Man being burnt out and unmotivated are more creative than the level of hackery of "BAD GOOD! GOOD BAD!"
It's not just tired, it's also moronic because it often goes against popular tropes and fundamental truths of life.
For example, people are always going to prefer the more appealing character, so "beauty&charisma=bad" doesn't sell. Unless you make the "ugly" character cuter/more conventionally attractive than the "hot" one, in which case the whole message is a lie. Shitting on mermaids wasn't a good idea either, because the target demo adores them. What the frick were they thinking?
>Ruby tries to defy destiny but ultimately conforms to it despite it clashing with her aspirations and principles >Chelsea is only evil because she's consumed by destiny
Just have them say destiny defined by others is stupid and defy it together

Also them bonding only works if Chelsea isn't Nerissa but her daughter seeking revenge, why would Nerissa even feel something for Ruby?

But like, beings like Orcs are evil because they're just Sauron's generational experiment of artificial selection

Lazy writing
evil races are known for being a minefield to write and these morons just jumped on all of them. You could say biology is what makes them evil but that's another racism message and it would be the krakens fault for forcing them in shit living conditions. How could an society built on evil even exist? I've seen this done where a race isn't inherently evil like goblins but it's their culture or shit, but that's another unintended message. Evil Races take care and time to write and need to be well thought out, this movie did neither
>Evil Races take care and time to write and need to be well thought out, this movie did neither
There are MULTIPLE ways to rationalize evil races in a setting without going into elaborate detail or care >Evil's a tangible presence like in D&D rather than an abstract concept >The evil race is explicitly artificial like robots >The evil race is part of a hive mind where the top dog is evil so everyone else is evil >The evil race are literal demon spawn with no soul and are incapable of feeling anything truly good >The evil race is populated by people who willingly transform into it rather than are born into
And of course the simplest, most basic solution of all is >Nobody fricking questions it and if they do, it's immediately proven wrong/dismissed and the audience themselves already have an idea of how fricked the evil race is before someone even raised the question to begin with (see Goblin Slayer)
The problem is that RGTK raises the question that mermaids aren't inherently evil and that Chelsea could very well be a subversion of this while still keeping some of the stereotypes Grandmamah gave
Vanity and self absorb does not necessarily equal being evil
Johnny Bravo, Johnny Cage, Lottie, etc aren't bad people
Their vanity can be a flaw but it doesn't make them evil
Even Regina George, the character Chelsea keeps getting compared to by the actual directors, wasn't pure evil
She was just a teenage girl with problems
A b***h sure but even she got better at the end because the writers of that film knew people are complicated than what surface level cliques suggest
Would Nerissa's revenge be justified?
Chelsea's would've been easily justified up until she targeted civilians
Nerissa, not so much
She was in it personally for her own revenge and we have to take what Grandmamah said at face value (despite how stupid that is) and just believe Nerissa did cause the war and really was teenage mermaid Hitler who tried to control all the oceans
I've always really liked how the Drow were handled. They didn't start out evil; they kinda got fricked over when the other elven gods named Lloth their matron, they got forced underground after losing a war she started, and then she spent the following thousands and thousands of years basically practicing eugenics to produce a bunch of complete fricking psychopaths because if she didn't set them on an evil self-destructive path they'd stop killing each other and start coming after her for what she did.
But even then they're still not wholly irredeemable; every once in a while one of them will wake up, realize how fricked things are, and bail. You've also got gods like Eilistraee actively trying to save them from Lloth, and several other minor gods trying to poach as many Drow to their employ as they can (mostly just to piss Lloth off).
>took a lot of cues from high school movies
Tells you all you need to know. And it's not like they put a clever spin on the formula, it's just another bland high school movie.
They clearly intended for Agatha to have spared the mermaids out of mercy and empathy at the start but when they (or someone else) decided to make Chelsea 1-dimensionally evil for the final act they scrapped it which just leaves a gaping hole for Agatha's character since it just makes her look irresponsible for not exterminating what's basically confirmed to be pure evil (and are entirely teenage girls no less)

There's good reason not a single grubhubian is on the poster (Gordon is an actual human, so he gets in).

Part of it is the nose but also the general smoothness and texture as well as the big soulless eyes that the grubhubians have. The designers made the mistake of applying the slimy kraken composition to nearly all the humans.

It's the weird, beady little eyes that are close together and also have huge, dilated pupils, as if they were constantly high.
Chelsea has really big pupils, too, but her design works because her eyes are much larger and there's space in what would be the bridge of her nose. Ruby has her eyes smaller and closer together than Chelsea, but her lack of nose keeps her design away from the uncanny valley.
There's also how Chelsea somehow knew where the trident was but even back when she was Nerissa's daughter she still knew the location so the only real foreshadowing is her bailing out of seeing Agatha
You can argue the mural but it only reinforces how the change happened so late because the mermaids in the murals AREN'T teenagers
If execs changed this could this get a directors cut? The worldbuilding is so wack they need to change almost everything
Yeah and Chicken Little's director cut is gonna be released as well
She followed Agath.....wait she was originally dead before they made her Chelsea as well
Maybe mermaids can just sense it but in that case wouldnt there be more mermaids trying to get it?

Yeah and Chicken Little's director cut is gonna be released as well
It doesn't really work as foreshadowing since the easy explanation is that she chickened out at the last second.
>You have no choice regarding your future >It's all built on your family's compromises rather than your own >Peace is a lie, the status quo will stay the same, conflict is inevitable and you must embrace and participate in it as your birthright >You cannot choose who you want to be friends with, they have to be approved by your parents >Not over their own actions but rather because of who they were born as because people can just be born collectively inherently evil over matters they have no control over >They should be all killed or forced into hiding out of fear of being killed >Remember kids, be yourself* >*as decided by how other people want you to be as well as "destiny"
>If something is bad, you have to dislike everything about it! >There can't be any compromises, everything is black and white!
Honestly, this movie sounds perfectly for you
Did you guys really hated this movie? Because you keep talking about it, over and over again, making art about and talking about it, people don't talked this much about fricking pixar movies from the last 5 years.
Am I being pranked here? Is that what this is? A prank sooly to try to trick me? Or are you guys pranking yourselves that you hated the movie because it wasn't the headcanon you build inside your head and despite enjoyed your own thoughts are clouded by disappointment but still wanting to talk about it. Because i'm not going to lie, that's kinda gay yo.
I don't get it either. The characters are vomit inducing, I can't imagine looking at these grubhub abominations for over 5 seconds without wanting to tear my eyes out.
You know, you could just read one of these threads. We pretty much repeat the reasons why these threads exist in every single one of them.
But to avoid your add from making you unable to do that, here is the gist: The movie sucked, but it had potential, and 2 cute waifus. We like the waifus, we like what the movie could have been, and people like to shit on something they hate.
That's all there is to it
>the reasons why these threads exist
What reasons would those be? The nauseating presence of shit-eating, moronic, turbo-autistic, tautological yurigays on this board? That's like a singular reason. >The movie sucked
Yes >but it had potential, and 2 cute waifus.
lol no.

Yes >but it had potential, and 2 cute waifus.
lol no.
Basically a lot of it is fueled by earlier storyboards having ideas that could've made the film a lot more interesting had they actually realized the potential of it
This movie could've been the next HTTYD or KFP series for DreamWorks or a modern cult classic like Megamind and Rise of the Guardians with the set up they had (granted the Grubhubians don't help) but they made avoidable writing decisions so bizarrely stupid it lives rent free in our heads
Suppose there's a second movie and they decide to make peace with mermaids. How the frick do you even do that? Do writers expect mermaids to go hoooray you slaughtered all of us now we can all be friends???
It's possible, supposedly there were causalities on both sides. The issue is that Chelsea can't be redeemed without it being REALLY awkward, and it's Chelsea who people really connected with(pre twist personality).
Yes but the mermaids were slaughtered en masses after being left defenseless and forced into hiding from genocide, that's not comparable to war casualties, that's downright barbaric
Anon, the co-director confirmed the mermaids are in hiding and Chelsea isn't spouting bullshit. And Grandma literally says the exact same shit about finishing them off. That isn't head canon
yes, hiding. Hiding doesn't mean they were slaughtered, but that they WOULD HAVE been slaughtered if they continue the war.
>the reasons why these threads exist

Yes >but it had potential, and 2 cute waifus.
lol no.
>That's like a singular reason.
I gave you three different reasons, the fact that you focused on the gay shipping one shows us more about you than me. >lol no.
way to prove me wrong. Good job
We know three things
A. Krakens did kill mermaids during the war
B. The entire mermaid kingdom fell apart after it
C. The mermaid race is a race of perpetual teenage girls because of the stupid ass confirmation of Chelsea and Nerissa being the same
>Ruby visits the mermaid kingdom they're all mean girls >they start flirting with Ruby so she doesn't fricking kill them (past experience) >Ruby gets a harem
>bang the daughter of your Nemesis >eventually become queen of the oceans >make Grandma and Agatha absolutely seethe in anger >Agatha has to attend the wedding
Also when Ralph went back to his job he actually still made adjustments to make it more to his liking
Giving himself an actual home and using his position to make other characters no longer homeless
Ruby doesn't do that, she's just another cog in a machine that she thought was unjustified
>that she feels empathy for Ruby so
It's weird because the co-director said she really did relate but none of her actions or words post-betrayal even suggest that
Even when Ramses was at his worst you could still feel and know his love for his brother was genuine
Seeing how long someone's camrip upload lasted on twitter was fun
There were also some drawgays who did requests
Also whenever someone finds a new storyboard or interview
Honestly the initial hype this movie it had from the cartoon community is kind of fascinating since it just road on "DreamWorks Renaissance" hype and the "Frick Disney" mentality
Honestly that's what pissed me off the most. Seeing every website get swamped by that dumb fricking console war-esque discourse whenever animated films got discussed got annoying, fast.
I'm sad Ruby was such a flop but I'm glad it fricking killed that shitty discusion.
When the ruby gillman fandom finally peters out, I will have to kill myself. No I won't listen to reason on this, I'm incapable of reason, given that I am in these threads after all.
>Apparently this was hastily redone after Luca came out is there any evidence to suggest this or is it bullshit?
That's a load of bs
We know from an interview that Luca didn't change their course since they felt the movie they were already making was different enough
Because the current generation of Deeznuts creators play way way too safe.
It was always like that though; and maybe, since I’m not their target audience anymore, their movies just aren’t impressive to me anymore.
The movies all seem like a glorified commercial to sell stuff. A movie like Notre Dame would never be made by Disney again, since that’d never sell to today’s audience.
Maybe it’s cuz entertainment and culture change too fast nowdays, so being geniunely impactful isn’t priority over being merely topical.
I told a friend of mine who's into animation that the whole movie was up on twitter for like a week and they didn't even know what movie I was talking about when I explained the title and premise. Hadn't even heard of it.
There's so much shit out there now that people will hardly notice films that don't scream something unique. Not too surprising either since the final film doesn't really offer that much besides Ruby's relationship with her mother and an unlikely friendship that turned out to be false.
>Stop trying to make this a cult hit.
Almost nobody is doing that
The movie's production and what could have been both from what we know and can only assume are infinitely more fascinating than the finalized product
looks like a generic bully character, probably meant to be a mild antagonist either when it was still just a family movie or an introduction antagonist before the mermaids are introduced
But it's clear that there is no counterpart to him in the final movie
looks like a generic bully character, probably meant to be a mild antagonist either when it was still just a family movie or an introduction antagonist before the mermaids are introduced
But it's clear that there is no counterpart to him in the final movie
Just part of test designs for the look of humans in the film
I think within 5 years someone will make a video essay about how the Nerissa twist ruined the movie from how blatantly it fails to line up with what was shown, to how it robs narrative weight, how obviously last minute it is, etc
Maybe titled "How a single twist killed a movie" or something like that
If you think about it destiny/"the call" is a motiff in this story, granted implemented like absolute shit and was probably intended to be a theme as it wrecks everything but hey, themes are for 8th grade book reports.
>everytime someone tries to go against destiny they're punished and all forced to confirm to it , some are downright born without free will >message is supposed to be be yourself and break destiny
I just like a fantasy, mermaids, sea monsters, etc. Wathed Raya just for the dragon. Same with a menstruation panda cartoon. I want more cartoon about fantasy beasts and creatures.
Let it die man
Just let it die already

She followed Agath.....wait she was originally dead before they made her Chelsea as well
Maybe mermaids can just sense it but in that case wouldnt there be more mermaids trying to get it?
Maybe the well of the oceans is like a really well known place? Seems kinda important
It doesn't really work as foreshadowing since the easy explanation is that she chickened out at the last second.
>You have no choice regarding your future
>It's all built on your family's compromises rather than your own
>Peace is a lie, the status quo will stay the same, conflict is inevitable and you must embrace and participate in it as your birthright
>You cannot choose who you want to be friends with, they have to be approved by your parents
>Not over their own actions but rather because of who they were born as because people can just be born collectively inherently evil over matters they have no control over
>They should be all killed or forced into hiding out of fear of being killed
>Remember kids, be yourself*
>*as decided by how other people want you to be as well as "destiny"
This shit is all 99% true and you'd better accept it
People watch animated family movies to escape from the cynicism of real life
>and you'd better accept it
Yeah but at least don't pretend its somehow a good thing
So do think the ending with Chelsea captured was done with Chelsea as Nerissa or before?
Because it's shit and your taste is shit if you like any part of this shitfest.
>If something is bad, you have to dislike everything about it!
>There can't be any compromises, everything is black and white!
Honestly, this movie sounds perfectly for you
If you think about it the only character in this movie with Free Will is Grandma
>me no understand
Yes
>but it had potential, and 2 cute waifus.
lol no.
Basically a lot of it is fueled by earlier storyboards having ideas that could've made the film a lot more interesting had they actually realized the potential of it
Basically we found out an absurd amount of info after it came out for like two months we had at least something new to discuss and get mad about
no, In fact everyone here loves it. The bright colors, fantastical premise, cartoony physics are an autism magnet. Unironically.
Anon, that's the funny headcanon we made up, it's not canon.
>That's like a singular reason.
I gave you three different reasons, the fact that you focused on the gay shipping one shows us more about you than me.
>lol no.
way to prove me wrong. Good job
We know three things
A. Krakens did kill mermaids during the war
B. The entire mermaid kingdom fell apart after it
C. The mermaid race is a race of perpetual teenage girls because of the stupid ass confirmation of Chelsea and Nerissa being the same
>Ruby visits the mermaid kingdom they're all mean girls
>they start flirting with Ruby so she doesn't fricking kill them (past experience)
>Ruby gets a harem
I didn't know the movie was coming out until it was a week after it was already the theaters and was flopping.
Man, at least pirate would keep us alive a bit with his spam.
It's over dude
Give it a rest
If you think about it, had Chelsea gone for the bard route she would have gained everything
>bang the daughter of your Nemesis
>eventually become queen of the oceans
>make Grandma and Agatha absolutely seethe in anger
>Agatha has to attend the wedding
i liked it but the twist ending was stupid. felt rushed
>Why did it flop so hard?
Not enough Ruby x Connor Romance
>The "handsome" grubhubian is somehow the ugliest one of them all
Where the frick is this scene from if its not in the extended shit?
Deleted scene that got remade so she transforms right before betraying Ruby
An Anon who saw the Annecy premiere said that scene was in the version he saw
Also when Ralph went back to his job he actually still made adjustments to make it more to his liking
Giving himself an actual home and using his position to make other characters no longer homeless
Ruby doesn't do that, she's just another cog in a machine that she thought was unjustified
I think they should have went full counterprogramming against black little mermaid.
On a scale from 1 to 10 how easily could Chelsea been Talk no Jutsu'd and not come across as dumb?
As Chelsea? 10. As Nerissa? It's dumb enough as it is that she feels empathy for Ruby so that one is truly unanswerable
>that she feels empathy for Ruby so
It's weird because the co-director said she really did relate but none of her actions or words post-betrayal even suggest that
Even when Ramses was at his worst you could still feel and know his love for his brother was genuine
What do you do in these threads outside posting homosexual erotic fanart and lamenting the lost potential of a story that never was?
Seeing how long someone's camrip upload lasted on twitter was fun
There were also some drawgays who did requests
Also whenever someone finds a new storyboard or interview
Because it sucked
>the way people thought this was going to outperform The Little Mermaid
Lol
Honestly the initial hype this movie it had from the cartoon community is kind of fascinating since it just road on "DreamWorks Renaissance" hype and the "Frick Disney" mentality
Honestly that's what pissed me off the most. Seeing every website get swamped by that dumb fricking console war-esque discourse whenever animated films got discussed got annoying, fast.
I'm sad Ruby was such a flop but I'm glad it fricking killed that shitty discusion.
>it's spreading
When the ruby gillman fandom finally peters out, I will have to kill myself. No I won't listen to reason on this, I'm incapable of reason, given that I am in these threads after all.
>given that I am in these threads after all.
What were you doing before the movie came out?
waiting for it to come out
What were you doing before it was announced?
Apparently this was hastily redone after Luca came out is there any evidence to suggest this or is it bullshit?
>Apparently this was hastily redone after Luca came out is there any evidence to suggest this or is it bullshit?
That's a load of bs
We know from an interview that Luca didn't change their course since they felt the movie they were already making was different enough
Ruby Gillman likes to eat fish
looks like fricking grubhub and it looks boring
Spongebob would survive that
That's what happens when you take a fish out of water.
she becomes gay?
Because the current generation of Deeznuts creators play way way too safe.
It was always like that though; and maybe, since I’m not their target audience anymore, their movies just aren’t impressive to me anymore.
The movies all seem like a glorified commercial to sell stuff. A movie like Notre Dame would never be made by Disney again, since that’d never sell to today’s audience.
Maybe it’s cuz entertainment and culture change too fast nowdays, so being geniunely impactful isn’t priority over being merely topical.
Yeah, DreamWorks movies for most of their lifetime were deliberately made to kickstart franchises in mind
No lesbians, no buy
Simple as
There are lesbians
Plenty of them
Just not the one couple you wanted
No one cares about token minority characters anon
I told a friend of mine who's into animation that the whole movie was up on twitter for like a week and they didn't even know what movie I was talking about when I explained the title and premise. Hadn't even heard of it.
I told my friend about it and the only thing he remembered was how hideous the humans looked in the first trailer
There's so much shit out there now that people will hardly notice films that don't scream something unique. Not too surprising either since the final film doesn't really offer that much besides Ruby's relationship with her mother and an unlikely friendship that turned out to be false.
Bad writing and most of the cast were ugly as sin.
Stop trying to make this a cult hit. It doesn't deserve to be.
>Stop trying to make this a cult hit.
Almost nobody is doing that
The movie's production and what could have been both from what we know and can only assume are infinitely more fascinating than the finalized product
Is this movie decent enough to pirate?
No, not really
Unless you have shit internet or something no, the ending is the only problem.
https://twitter.com/_Drawym_/status/1676780622759567360
Who the frick is this?
Nega Connor?
looks like a generic bully character, probably meant to be a mild antagonist either when it was still just a family movie or an introduction antagonist before the mermaids are introduced
But it's clear that there is no counterpart to him in the final movie
Just part of test designs for the look of humans in the film
Makes sense, we're probably overthinking it. A common side effect from prolonged copium.
I think within 5 years someone will make a video essay about how the Nerissa twist ruined the movie from how blatantly it fails to line up with what was shown, to how it robs narrative weight, how obviously last minute it is, etc
Maybe titled "How a single twist killed a movie" or something like that
If you think about it destiny/"the call" is a motiff in this story, granted implemented like absolute shit and was probably intended to be a theme as it wrecks everything but hey, themes are for 8th grade book reports.
>everytime someone tries to go against destiny they're punished and all forced to confirm to it , some are downright born without free will
>message is supposed to be be yourself and break destiny
>She's not bullshiting here and is feeling a connection with Ruby
>Chelsea is all fake and is taking advantage of Ruby's insecurities
PICK ONE
>sleeping on the bully of your family's killer
I just like a fantasy, mermaids, sea monsters, etc. Wathed Raya just for the dragon. Same with a menstruation panda cartoon. I want more cartoon about fantasy beasts and creatures.
>For one time they could have pushed [cute] lesbians they didn't
>instead they nogged out
This.
I would have been willing to put my sexism aside for while to jack off to mermaid eating out a kraken dork but no, gotta get that darkie mixed in!
