Why did most Disney cartoons that had characters going to school have characters go to middle/high school?

Recess was literally one of the only ones that had the characters be in elementary school

Disney Channel started airing more live-action sitcoms that appealed more to Tweens/Teens, so most other shows followed suit.

Then how come Recess took place at elementary school?

I was thinking it was because it came out before all those live-action sitcoms. Then I remembered Pepper Ann had the characters go to middle school and it came out at the same time as Recess

How come Recess took place at an elementary school, yet Pepper Ann had middle school!?

Pepper Ann and Kim Possible were from a "girls'" perspective, while Recess was from a "boys'" perspective.

          Recess was before that
First and last episodes of Recess were 1997 and 2001 respectively which was before they started doing tween sitcoms like That's So Raven or Suite Life, meanwhile Kim Possible's first episode was in 2002

Yeah, I know it was before that. However, Pepper Ann came out AT THE EXACT SAME TIME and it TOOK PLACE at a middle school!

Pepper Ann and Kim Possible were from a "girls'" perspective, while Recess was from a "boys'" perspective.

I think Recess was aimed towards a gender neutral audience and there were episodes that focused on Spinelli and Gretchen

Odd, then I'm not sure why Recess is the only exception.

To me, i'd say Recess is as much of a "boys perspective" as Hey Arnold is. The main character is a boy, but there were episodes from a "girls perspective as well"

Because teens probably won't watch shows about professional bass fishing... despite the undeniable truth that the Red and Green Show was one of the cornerstones of my childhood.

Same here. The Adventures With Bill segments were very underrated.

Kids will watch any type of cartoon but neurotypical teenage girls think cartoons are too childish so you need to try and appeal to them

Then how was Recess able to put the characters in elementary school? Pepper Ann had middle school and it premiered at the same time, yet Recess decided to have its characters in elementary school

Was there a reason why Recess took place at an elementary school, while all the others had the characters attend either middle school or high school (Pepper Ann, Lloyd in Space, Disney's Doug, The Proud Family, Kim Possible, The Weekenders, and all the sitcoms)

I know The Weekenders didn't take place at school. However, the characters were middle school age and they did mention that they went to school

You're overthinking this too much. When I think of "recess" (not the show, but the concept of recess itself) I think of my time in elementary school. Not Middle School / High School.

If the concept of your show was about "Recess" why the frick would you have it take place in High School?

Was Pepper Ann for a slightly older audience than Recess? I find that hard to believe

Was it because Paul and Joe really wanted Recess to take place in an elementary school

Recess was on Broadcast tv on Saturday mornings.
The other ones you were talking about came on at different hours on cable tv.

According to an article, Recess was meant for a slightly younger audience than the sitcoms. The sitcoms were meant for 9-14 year olds, while Recess was geared towards 6-11

What i'm trying to figure out is if Recess skewed slightly younger than Kim Possible or Pepper Ann
