Gen X is a very self-aware generation. Even back when they were teenagers and I was a kid, they knew the whole thing would fall apart. I don't know why they were having those types of conversations with a 5 y.o., but some of them were.

Simpsons writers are writers, entitled brats cushioned by daddy's money regardless of the generation.

Gen X is just as responsible for the shitty situation we are in as the Boomers. They're lazy worthless sloths that essentially refused to take over for their boomer parents and let them run shit way to long. Not like millenials are any better having spent more time coveting the possessions of other generations.

Our current situation is the result of Boomer pride, Gen X sloth, and Millenial Envy. I do wonder which sin Gen Z will go all in on, my guess is Lust.

        Wonder where wrath comes in.
I should specify that all my hatred is directed toward coastal boomers. Other boomers are A-OK in my book. The pozzed ones are absolutely evil. The kind that had satanic orgies with the feds in the 60s. I hate those types.

Gen Z isn't having sex; lust would fit the Boomers and their many summers of love better. Gen Z would probably be wrath, given their love of cancel culture and their moral self-righteousness.

The women bawd it up with a small group of chads while the rest of the men jerk off to the women's onlyfans. Boomers are no where near the coomers that Gen Z has become

Gen Z porn culture was just an extension of millennial porn culture.

Gen Z is probably gluttony, being plagued by materialistic narcissists that consume the next thing without a second thought. It almost amazes me that the generation which grew up surrounded by the borderline-excessive encouragement of individuality is the one most prone to fall into self-destructive trends; though perhaps not terribly surprising in retrospect.

The fact that his dumb ass had the same job as Homer, most likely same wages, and didn't bother moving into a nicer place, even wasting time trying to sabotage Homer, shows that he kind of deserves his shitty lot in life.

      >That Frank Grimes was smart enough to be a self-made man and never made anything of himself is somewhat hard to believe.
He wasn't really a self made man though. He was just a hyper competent cog, content to work with his nose at the grindstone and accept what life threw at him. He didn't aspire to anything better, or try and connect with people, he just fricked hookers and grew more and more bitter that his ship never came in.
Homer, for all his faults and gross incompetence, is a dreamer that takes risks, wants more, and can get along with most people. He's got an appetite for life and so he gets more out of it.

I can see it leaving a bad taste in people's mouths because the absurdity is in that Grimes just has a really depressing life and all his misfortunes up until a failed prank to embarrass Homer drives him insane isn't his fault. Then in the end basically he goes unmourned while everyone laughs at Homer inadvertantly ruin his funeral. It's funny but if you're not into it it's just really fricking bleak.

To be fair, Homer doesn't have his job because it's suited to his "intellect" the joke is his job is actually pretty complex and important but circumstance had an idiot like Homer fall into it. Albeit when it happened Homer was simply well meaning but unqualified dullard who was hired because he protested the unsafe conditions of the plant rather than criminally negligent and dangerous.
Though Grimes himself only got the job because a sob story inspired Mr. Burns to hire him then discard him into a position he didn't really care about.

there's a reason why they build a "nuclear" village around the plant and get people to move there. Like Fukushima and the towns which had to be abandoned due radiation.

Some dude had a horrible life and then had a horrible death, then everyone laughed at his funeral, mind you that his worst crimes were saving Homer's life and being a grouch in cartoon land, for people that are a bit slow on the uptake it made them think
    >"Why were they so mean to this one guy?"
    The rest could figure out
    >"oh, right, this is a cartoon"
but for some it was a more sobering kind of realisation, the kind that makes you feel stupid for feeling anything at all for these characters, and people don't like to feel stupid

The show works hard to make you feel for the characters in a number of episodes, albeit this was more often true earlier in the show's run. This episode is a self-parody of the tenedency away from this.

Last I checked people were complaining that this was an early example of "jerk-ass" Homer. The way he harassed Frank, sabotaging him with Mr. Burns, and falling asleep at his funeral. I felt Simpsons was just fine all the way to S13, so I don't agree with this theory. Then again, I didn't really hate Homer from the later seasons, even if he was different than early Homer. Early Homer existed to be shit on too much for my tastes.
