The performances are very good, especially the final 30 minutes or so. Id say its more generic than truly bad aside from the 1 meme scene of geriatric De Niro stomping that clerk and bad deaging cgi
Goodfellas Casino and Irishman are basically a spiritual trilogy its just a shame it took Scorsese like 15 years to get Irishman financed because he wanted to make it forever
If he had had a stunt double for DeNiro who had his face imposed onto than the film would've been significantly better.
If he had cast a younger, relatively unknown actor who looks like DeNiro for the younger parts, than it could've been remembered as one of Scorsese's best and a nice homage to The Godfather part II
Honestly the age shit didn't really bother me because the writing and acting were so good. It's only a problem if you're judging it based on historical accuracy, but the story is made up bullshit anyway so it doesn't really matter
>It's only a problem if you're judging it based on historical accuracy,
Or, you know, the complete destruction of your immersion when a geriatric Robert DeNiro is introduced as "that kid I was telling you about"
>it's actually a really good film if you ignore 2 incredibly stupid terrible scenes
No, those are just the most egregious examples. The film has some brilliant moments but it needed a good editor/producer to trim off the fat because the pacing was terrible and it was way too long. And DeNiro shouldn't be playing a young Hoffa and that ruins the first hour or so of the film
Doesn’t that guy literally make shit up about his time in the mob?

all mob youtubers/podcasters do, but he's one of the least full of shit, some of the other guys are just fricking rediculous with the amount of crap they talk
this dude claims he killed over 300 people during his service in Vietnam (3 times the amount of the highest confirmed kills by anyone)
Assuming that's true, the best time to put that in a film is not when you have a senior citizen with experimental de-ageing tech, playing a guy 50 years younger and being introduced to a mafia boss for the first time.
Born in ‘78. Been watching gangster movies since I first watched Goodfellas when I was 12/13. This movie filtered me hard. It sucks ass. I made it through the first 10 minutes of many saints of Newark and shut that piece of shit off. It’s the end of an era.
>Hire 70 yr old men to play guys in their 40's and even in their 20's. >Try to patch it with absolutely terrible CGI to quadruple the budget.
A complete and utter waste of money, the big studios were wise to laugh him out of the room.
Netflix was hungry for a Best Picture Oscar tho.
>>Hire 70 yr old men to play guys in their 40's and even in their 20's.
De Niro looked alright at 55, today he looks his age. Kind of a shame, it would've been easy to make them look older fifteen years ago, but making them younger now? lol
Goodfellas had alot of made up shit in it too, tons of mobguys have pointed out over the years that Henry Hill was a nobody and wasn't involved in half the shit he claimed he was involved in
You don't even need to be a mobster to realise Hill was full of shit. He was obviously telling people looking for ghoulish sensationalism what they wanted to hear at every turn.
the dozens of other mobsters who gave sworn testimony and interviews where they pointed out he lied about multiple elements of his life and things he was involved in, Henry Hill was a small time crook who cashed in on his association with Jimmy Burke
Danny Greene was an absolute Sigma chad, some of the old tv interviews he would do where he would just dare the Mafia guys to come get him were so based
although personally my favourite Irish gangster film is black mass, that film proves Depp can still act when given good material, and there's no glitz and glamour mob life is just shown to be a cold cruel buisness inhabited by complete psychopaths
Black Mass felt like it went nowhere for me. it obviously wasn't accurate but I enjoy The Depahted much more. Also, Whitey Bulger snuck in to see it in cinemas when he was still on the lamb in Cali.
And like 26 in this one. But his immersive acting skill made the viewer disregard the age gap. Marty was close to not casting him because of the age thing, actually.

The difference is that he's never mentioned as being a 19 year old kid.
And Pesci wasn't literally wearing diapers and using a walking cane when he was cast. So he had still the youthful energy that made him easily believable as a guy in his 20s or 30s who aged like an Italian
>The difference is that he's never mentioned as being a 19 year old kid.
Bro one scene earlier his character was played by a little boy. Then there's the timeskip (not a vague one, we know what year it is) and he looks like this. There's no defending one over the other. >easily believable as a guy in his 20s
Lol
I love that directors films, but Irishman sucks ass.

Scorcese and Schrader can both eat shit.
that kid absolutely brutalized him
>cgi tries to de-age him
>still holds his arms like an old guy
bravo scorsese
Woah, who's that spruce, young kid?
Nothing to do with Schrader. Zallian wrote this shit.
They're butt buddies, nothing to do with this movie. I just despise both of them.
cute little girl
looks like the Goodfellas poster
Goodfellas Casino and Irishman are basically a spiritual trilogy its just a shame it took Scorsese like 15 years to get Irishman financed because he wanted to make it forever
Let me guess, he initially had a trilogy planned?
No but there was another movie he tried to make with Deniro playing a different historical mob hitman that never got financed
>Why did The Irishman filter zoomers so much?
because its over 20 minutes long and has too much talking
Shutter Island was the true filter
I haven't heard much criticism of Shutter Island. His religious films like Silence and Last Temptation are more divisive
Everyone always shits on Shutter Island, undeservedly. Maybe it's just a Cinemaphile thing but it's pretty constant
De Niro and Pacino were way too old for their roles. DiCaprio as the Irishman and Tom Hardy as Jimmy Hoffa would have been great
Scorsese just wanted to make 1 more mob movie with his bros. He knew it was his last chance

Cinemaphile harps on that 1 line and this
1 scene as their biggest problems with a 210 minute movie, which just tells me its pretty good overall
I liked the Irishman, but the first 45 minutes are a hilarious case study in the limits of digital de-aging.
>it's actually a really good film if you ignore 2 incredibly stupid terrible scenes

>80 year old calls 50 year old a kid
Just didn't trigger my autism
it was a mafia thing. Micheal Franzese said in an interview a 60 years old mobster would call a 55 years old "a kid" like when they first met
Doesn’t that guy literally make shit up about his time in the mob?

Saints was trash top to bottom, especially the script. Irishman has good aspects, the actors were simply too old

It's a great movie though
It's a shit movie though
Unfortunate lack of taste
it was an ok movie, it could have been a great movie if it was made 20 years earlier

Pity Apple beat them to it with a film no-one even remembers
>this is the deacendant of Conan the Cimmerian I was telling you about.
because it's based on the debunked story of hoffa
goodfellas and casino is rooted in true story
irishman is made up bullshit
Goodfellas had alot of made up shit in it too, tons of mobguys have pointed out over the years that Henry Hill was a nobody and wasn't involved in half the shit he claimed he was involved in

Where is the evidence that he was lying.

Sorry, it sucks. I love GoodFellas but Scorsese needs to stop trying to remake it.
As a contrarian, I must insist this was the superior irish/Italian mob movie.
Danny Greene was an absolute Sigma chad, some of the old tv interviews he would do where he would just dare the Mafia guys to come get him were so based

They should watch After Hours
Great movie but they really should have just cast a younger actor to play DeNiro in the early years scenes.
Al Pacino was fricking great in this as Jimmy Hoffa, that last scene with him hit me so hard.
It's curious how when it comes to The Irishman people are suddenly obsessed about the actors not being the appropriate age.
Reminder that Pesci's character is supposed to be 19 in this scene.
And like 26 in this one. But his immersive acting skill made the viewer disregard the age gap. Marty was close to not casting him because of the age thing, actually.

Lol
maybe because he's not hobbling like a fricking cripple you absolute moron
too long for zoomers
this the gazzilionth mafia film you made with the same actors and same plot, oldman. about time you moved on
No zoomer has ever gotten past the first 30 minutes.
