it got cancelled before the final episode but the creator said the last episode would be earl bumping into someone with their own list who was inspired by earl's story - earl then finds that other's are going through their own lists meaning earl had finally put more good into the world than bad. He tears his list up and walks into the sunset.

Then they shouldve had him steal a bbq grill and show him and Randy walking off into the sunset dragging it down the sidewalk

That would be an awful ending. Earl initially began making up for his past behaviour for selfish reasons; he wanted a karmic reward, over a karmic punishment. As the show progressed, Earl began to genuinely care about doing the right thing, and became a better person by the end of it. Having him revert back to his old ways is a cheap knockoff of Clockwork Orange, that would be a real kick in the nuts to the audience

The creator's show afterwards takes place in the same universe and has a news article confirming he finished the list iirc. I think he also has a nursery home in his name.

    >In 2023, Ethan Suplee explained during an episode of the "Slick & Thick" podcast exactly what led to the show being cancelled:[25]
    > We were a hit. And the network called the studio and said, 'We want to license the show for another year,' and the studio said, 'Well, we want more money. We want to renegotiate our deal with you'. And the network basically did not respond for two weeks, and then the studio called back and said, 'We'll take your deal,' and the network said, 'Too late'.
    Based morons.

This was a bigger victim of the writers strike than Heroes. Heroes was already on shaky ground because it wasn't supposed to be an ongoing story. This just got a bunch of character assassination.

The show had become stagnant and Earl basically accomplished his goal by S3. It was weak bait for another season to make it seem like paternity of Joy's kids was series defining plotline.

    >The intended finale was gonna have Earl find out that people were inspired by him doing good things for them that they all started their own lists of bad things that they did. He would then realize he put more good into the world then bad and tears up his list and walks off into the sunset

Could've honestly been the most kino finale of all time
