because Hollywood wants to stay insulated from the opinions of Commoners.
Everyone in Hollywood uses IMDB religiously.
Around this time News websites all removed their comment sections at the same time too.
>That was objectively the best forum system on the internet. You could shitpost and troll and vent on any actor or director or other in the system.
This.
I used to go on various actors boards and call them israelites or pedos. Their die-hard fans would go fricking crazy. I also got my workplace's IP banned from wikipedia for constant edits saying he was a pedo to the point where he threatened litigation against wikipedia.
The extremist right wants to murder whoever doesn't agree with them. They also want to "lock her up" and generally imprison their opposing opinions and generally stay in their own walled gardens.
I don't discriminate; both sides have those Karens; get a thicker skin and don't seethe just because someone is not exactly the same as you from either side of the spectrum.
I miss it quite a bit, although it did go downhill after The Dark Knight was released. Capeshit gays would turn up on every movie message board b***hing about how Nolan would have done it better.
A lot of people will blame cancel culture, but I know why it was really taken down - I worked with a lot of guys on deciphering a certain film from the seventies that we headquartered on the IMDB message board for that film. The info we got from it was BIG. Like, we're talking enough to take the agency and all its organs of power down. Then one day, it suddenly gets deleted, destroyed, no trace. Ever since that I've been assigned a watcher, but he knows he can do nothing. I have powers if he tries anything.

What film?
>you know realize Reddit has completely taken over every forum online except here
There’s still Twitter.
Both Twitter, and my city’s Reddit now require sign in or the app now, so it looks like the powers that be are trying to kill anonymous discussion.
they knew they had to do vote manipulation to get people to swallow any woke junk and people on there would easily find out. You can't desire to own MGM and have free discussion around it's output on your site.
You guys do realise that a lot of IMDB forum regulars simply set up a new discussion site when they removed the message boards right? It's just the same comfy discussion only without IMDB's autistic overreach
I remember people would share leaked scripts on there. I traded a rejected jp4 script for a Texas Chainsaw 3D script where Leatherface died at the end. There were also this group of kids on the boards that were known for leaking the original Jurassic World trailer with unfinished CGI that the found on a survey site. It caused Universal to release the trailer early. I feel like stuff like that, along with IMDb trying to make itself into an industry tool caused the boards to be shutdown.
No one wants to pay to give people a free speech platform to hold huge movie studios accountable. Anyone who wants to make a movie focused site is looking to make money, not lose it. The fact rotten tomatoes still lists user reviews at all is a concession to the userbase. The studios sure as frick dont want it
The same reason why Popular Mechanics, TMZ and many other sites took down their boards: so no one can ever disagree with them, or confront them when they're wrong.
Remember when Netflix just deleted the ability to rate Netflix shows, because everyone gave well-deserved one-star ratings to the absolutely fricking terrible standup special done by a Senator's niece?
they didn't want to pay to moderate it
>they didn't want to pay to moderate it
Yet some how they get jannies here do it for free?
Centralisation of the internet

the forum exposed that dyke b***h cara delewhatshername
they have to be shut down. people don't realize how powerful her family is
checked and can we get a qrd?

Was that really the reason though?
Her movie career's pretty much dead anyway. Haven't seen in anything else since
She's been in Selena Gomez lately
The world's biggest company simply can't afford to hire more (free) jannies
Could you imagine what a shitshow it would have been?
>make shitshow movies
>oh nonono you can talk about how shitty they are!...
literally "shut it down"...
Discussion got in the way of consuming product.

I shed a tear each time I imagine what we'd do to the page of Rian Johnson after The Last Jedi.

Schizo behaviour
The last remnants of the Old Internet have been swept away
Culture war and Trump winning the election. The Ghostbusters 2016 forum became a complete shitshow. They realized this was the future of the forums.
Basically the cancel culture of the millennials. Both the left and the right are whiny little Karens who can't stand the opinions of others.
I'm glad Zoomers slowly return to the roots of the gen X; total chaos; frick the boomers.
What forums did the right shut down again?
The extremist right wants to murder whoever doesn't agree with them. They also want to "lock her up" and generally imprison their opposing opinions and generally stay in their own walled gardens.

The Capitol nazi
Oh yeah for 2 hours and then business went on as usual.
What thread did the right shut down?
>The extremist right wants to murder whoever doesn't agree with them.
Don't be so Islamophobic.
>The extremist right
2/10 bait made me reply
What the frick are you talking about anon
>Zoomers slowly return to the roots of the gen X
Yeah, consooming product, that'll show them boomers.
>get told product good
>check to see if product is good
>can't find any opinion on product
>well product must be good then
>2017
Because they didn't know what to about the incredible amounts of harassment and racism.

the day the Cinemaphile died..
>look up obscure films from the 80‘s and 90‘s
>some guy who worked on the film shares his experience

MOOOOOOOOOOM! Pedowood moron is vagueposting again!
>Why did they do it bros?
Message boards are cesspools of the lowest common denominator.
people would have constantly pointed out how scores were being massaged.
Is there any backup for the forums?
Would love to read it
Netflix removed star ratings over Hannah Gadsby and went to thumbs up/down
Then removed that over Amy Schumer
I miss the star rating so much. Made it easy to filter out real documentaries from Americanized TV crap.
UI and Software design are all about removing functionality these days.
it was used by real people, unlike twitter

The opinions of the proles must be suppressed.
shutting down all criticism
Too much Based content, can contain all the Based in one site.

How is there no IMDb forum alternative yet? Isn't that how the internet is supposed to work?
