Why did this get so much flak? Cute slice of life with incredibly expressive animation that didn't feel corporate. This and encanto are probably the only 2 disney/pixar films of the last decade that had some real soul put into them

This movie promoted sex work to children
Probably trying to appeal to the tiktok generation
how
>main character is underage girl
>she turns into a giant red panda as a metaphor for the awkwardness of puberty
>after becoming comfortable with this change she charges people to see her panda form as an attraction
it's maybe a stretch but i wouldn't put it past em
You forgot there's a literal scene where she's selling "panda" pictures secretly at school to pay for boyband tickets
>I interpret panda as pussy because I have a dirty mind
>Somehow, this is Didney's fault
not him but if the panda is a metaphor for puberty, and she is selling pictures of said metaphor for puberty, how does that not immediately draw parallels to sex work?
you can argue maybe they didnt think all that through, but it can EASILY be read that way, the movie does 99% of the work for you. The idea of taking private pictures of yourself doing anything in a bathroom is questionable enough for a kids film, but it being pictures of an actual metaphor for puberty just pushes that way over the line. You have to be retarded to connect these dots
*you have to be retarded to NOT connect these dots
>coombrains
not even once.
Making a joke about something because there's a suggestive parallel is not saying X = Y.
>This movie promoted sex work to children
>main character literally monetizes her pubescence
>I dunno, seems like a stretch
dude...
meds
She sells photos of her panda form in the bathroom at school and at the end of the movie says “My panda, my rules.” I’m not even kidding.
This.
It also came out during a period (no pun intended) where Disney's groomer allegations got exposed live on air for the world to see.
>Cute slice of life with incredibly expressive animation that didn't feel corporate.
>didn't feel corporate.
You're kidding, right?
This is the pinnacle of calarts grotesqueness, and it isn't corporate?
Not so subtle degenerate programming
if I remember it correctly...
it sucked cuz the protagonist was not very likable
they hope to win people by being relatable
but those two things do not always come together
she was not smart, or pretty, she was no funny
she was not cool nor enigmatic charisma machine
she was not in control, nor she felt powerful
I think there was moment where she betrayed her family and her friends
she made up for it in the end, but it is just not enough
you cant make lead unlikable for 3/4 of the movie and try to save it in the end
you do that with antagonist sometimes
>pic unrelated, what popped up when I searched red in my Cinemaphile folder
imagine making this but the main character is a boy who then draws a girl he thinks is cute in a girl band and then rolls under his bed to draw him and her kissing and then he gives her big boobs and later in the movie he wakes up and theres a stain in his sheets and at school he gets boners.
it's bullshit to me that they make such a film for women because "le feminism" but the thought of doing something equally as important but for boys would just be "gross" and "promote sexism" or something stupid like that.
also the creator was a women so obviously thats the real reason why im just mad.
boys an girls dont act the same
true. Boys have to kill a living thing every morning to sate their blood lust and girls must spread one lie every day or else their brains explode.
I never watched it because that girl dancing looks ripped straight from that GrubHub commercial
Hate? I wasn't aware of it until now.
You're being ironic, right? It's one of the most soulless Pixar's ever
>calarts beanfaces
>soul
Choose one
Because it's Boring. Usually these "Change into something" movies involve a quest, solving a problem, fighting a villain and I don't count the mom at the end. It's boring, might as well thrown out the Panda stuff and made her glow red or something but you know, gotta have something you can sell merch of.
>he doesn't understand modernism
This
Changing into a panda doesn’t really change anything. The central conflict is “Will she stop panicking over her transformation?” which only works if the MC is incredibly interesting.
This plot might have worked okay in a one-off Cartoon Network episode show like Fairly Oddparents or Teenage Robot.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but calarts style looks simply extremely bad in 2d and absolutely horrendous in 3d.
if disney gets flak, it's because they chose to get flak
Encanto was shit too. All these shills "raving" about we don't talk about Bruno. Put it on the other day. Fucking boring. Just another modern talk-singing mediocrity.
>Just another modern talk-singing mediocrity
how do you reach this level of retarded?
I'm adding this and the other 5
>metaphors must be all encompassing
posts to the idiot pile
Christians are so appalled by menstruation they don't even teach their own daughters about it, they rather have them figure it out on their own or sex ed in school
real life isn't "Carrie"
They can't keep getting away with this.
>Something is obviously one way
>People say that it is that way
>"Um actually it is the complete opposite of what you have deduced it to be"
>No longer able to deny that the aforementioned thing is that way
>Still not willing to admit that it is that way
>"You're bad for having deduced that it is that way!"
At some point you will say
>"It is that way; And that's a a good thing!"
I look like that and these are my opinions
whats crazy is that all of those are 100% correct
Sure thing, chuddie.
But he's right.
upper middle class asians living in some concrete shithole are not interesting
>movies need interesting subject matter to be good
This thread is actually melting my mind
Mei-Mei is cute. CUTE!
im racist is why
It visually looks like the grubhub commercials so I would have to be paid to watch it
>Cartoon aimed at kids about how menstruation causes girls to become emotionally unstable monsters
Gee I wonder why
>didn't feel corporate
The calarts style, that looks like the Grubhub ad meets the Kroger people, except even more generic, doesn't feel corporate to you?
Are you...alive?
she is 13
she is an adult
she can do whatever she wants with her p____
it is so soft
I didn't hate it but thought it was disappointing. Girl comes from an ancient lineage of magical power and the main conflict that comes from it is with her mom. And not her mom is trying to use that power to take over the world or fuck even just Canada, no it's moms super strict and won't let me go see my favorite band. Watching it was the equivalent of paying to see a movie that cost millions of dollars to make when you could have stayed home and listened to your girlfriend bitch about her family and work drama.
It's better than any movie made during walt's tenure, that's for sure
Best pixar thing to come out in a minute
