Probably one of my favorite films to watch in theater but CGI Jeff Bridges was lame and the story was pretty forgettable.

Creepy CGI Jeff Bridges. Weird thing was that Weta was already doing super realistic facial CGI at that point, I dunno

It's a mushroom movie, the only mushroom movie i can remember doing well at the box office was 300.

The movie was bad, they tried to cram too much into it resulting in a dissolute and unfocused story.

I watched this movie in theaters as part of the first date I ever took a girl on. a group of guys I knew who went to a different school came in and sat right behind us and completely threw me off so I had negative memories of it. years later I finally watched the first tron and immediately followed that up by rewatching this and it's by far the superior film, I have no idea why anyone would try to pretend it wasn't as good as the original.

It's a better movie than the original which was pretty shit but the story is pretty poor. The aesthetics and soundtrack are what pushed the movie into kino territory.

I honestly don't know. Maybe cuz Garrett Hedlund just isn't a star? Maybe cgi young Jeff Bridges looked like dogshit? Maybe because the story was not that "epic"? Michael Sheen and Daft Punk fricking KILLED it though. They nailed the costumes and the whole look and feel of the world. It should have got some more respect.

Daft Punk's soundtrack is the heart and soul of this movie, even if another sequel was made it just wouldn't be as good without them. I still listen to the soundtrack to this day, it never gets old driving at night playing it.

definitely. going back and watching the original tron its shocking how empty it sounds by contrast

i could see them getting another electronic act to do the soundtrack for a sequel but is there even anyone around today with that level of draw?

How is $400 million in ticket sales a flop? Especially in 2010, that's $600m now

  22. 3 weeks ago
    Anonymous

It didn't flop. It was successful. It made twice it's budget so it was a success. The problem is that does not warrant a sequel AT ALL. You gotta make near triple the budget for execs and producers to even begin thinking of a sequel. But stop saying it was a flop, it wasn't. They just thought it would do better than it did.

The original costume and set designs gave off an impression of circuitry and programming logic because, you know, that was the setting and characterization. Disney thought the external
    >futuristic
cheesy lighting and Euro design cues of Dyson and Volkswagen should replace that for some extraordinarily stupid reason. The script didn't do any better than design, either. It was an uninspired nostalgia cash grab.

It flopped? I've heard nothing but good things about it since it came out. I also adore the movie. It's the ultimate chill out movie. It's like watching a fireworks show while Daft Punk is playing their music.

the finale is not very exciting. I love the movie, but it builds and builds to this under whelming plane sequence. Then, Flynn just deletes the server. Which is fine, apparently he always could, and it was about getting Quora out. Still, they didn't have a daring or exciting ending.

I hated this fricking movie when it came out and never rewatched it until a couple months ago but when I did I actually enjoyed it. I think the weird cgi clute just left a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe people just didnt know what to make of it

Maybe a weird thing to gripe about but what bugged me about Tron Legacy was how their world had so much more...physics...in it.

Like the original movie was this weird trip into a digital world that felt so alien that you couldn't really trust things that seemed like real world analogues.
What looks like a person is actually a computer program. Things just fly because why not. It's not like there's actually any air or gravity there.
There's no plants or animals either. Everything is made out of energy and code. Things don't die, they derezz.

In Legacy, while visually it looked a lot better, you also had things like weather, storms. Things fell down, shattered. Debris lay on the ground. Just constant small things like that.
Overall the world just felt a lot less weird and alien. It felt a lot more like just the regular world but with blue glowy lines.
I still enjoyed it overall, but the digital world just was a lot less fantastical to me.
They had this completely unique setting and barely used any of its potential.

tbf flynn and clute designed that system and added all the physics, gravity etc themselves I am sure.
