Why didn't he summon a Great Council when Aegon was born to reaffirm Rhaenyra was his successor? Goes GRRM have an explanation?

Why didn't he just frick Rhaenyra himself and produce an heir that way?

GRRM had already retconned the story enough that adding a great council would leave it utterly nonsensical, because they’d select Aegon and then there’d be no war

NO ONE wants Rhaenyra as Queen.

It's explicitly stated that while he was able to name her heir, only a handful of people were going to go through with letting her be crowned Queen and were going to put his son by his second wife on the throne first chance he could. To the point that Aegon's mom had to repeatedly scream at her son that he was fricked and would be murdered as Rhaenyra's first act as ruler, something that she would do simply to eliminate the only remaining threat to her reign since she knew full well that her enemies would rally around Aegon to try and keep her from being Queen.

Also, the fricker was a cowardly shit who point blank refused to straight up disown Rhaenyra when she birthed her first bastard. He was a coward who didn't want to make a hard decision and the carnage is all his fault.

He never realized that he was wed with a family of power hungry vipers, thus he saw no need.

She was known as "The Realm's Delight" -because she wasn't sulking 24/7 like in the show, you're completely wrong.

The dance is his fault unironically.

No, Alicent was the one that plotted, and she was the most paranoid.
She was also wrong, Rhaenyra would NOT have killed Alicent's side of the family.
Alicent had to make shit up just to convince her rational son to commit treason while Rhaenyra was in labour on Dragonstone.

        >She was also wrong, Rhaenyra would NOT have killed Alicent's side of the family.
Laenor's fate suggests otherwise. Of course the show came up with its own fanficcy "Rhae Rhae cares about true gay love so she saves Laenor :*~~))" scenario so that doesn't count anymore, but that's just one of many ways HOTD killed its narrative to whitewash Rhaenyra & Alicent.

          >Laenor's fate suggests otherwise.
And her interactions and talks that concern Alicent's children prove you wrong.
Ofc you can always claim that the book lied and her intentions were different.

Praying they retcon Daemon killing Aemond and have that gay lose instead.

      > and have that gay lose instead.
How would you personally have it go down? it kind of has to work the way it is, with Daemon accepting his fate that he has to commit suicide to take Aemond down. /

I'm just going to fricking seethe if they don't include Aemond struggling with his seatbelt. Him dying because of his seatbelt while being an edgelord is what makes the entire character work.

        Anonymous

There are no chains/seatbelts on any of the dragon saddles so far so the non bookgays don’t know the rider is supposed to be secured in the saddle. They will have to add them for it to be believable, and not suddenly have them in season 4 when the plot requires it.

Daemon jumping off his dragon and landing his sword right into Aemond’s face, who also happened to be riding an even BIGGER dragon, is one of the most surreal and absurd moments of the series.

Very much medieval “holy shit bunny rabbits with swords” tapestry type surreal. People will sing songs about it, not knowing of it really happened or not. But it definitely did happen.

It's really dumb they made Aegon a pedophile rapist who engages in child fights
literally mushroom propaganda and lies in the book
It'd be better if he was just a drunken chud who didn't even really want it

Thrones would do this shit all the time, making the bad guys so over the top evil that its ridiculous
      >Making Meryn Trant a sadistic pedo so that crowds will cheer when Arya kills him
      >Making Ramsay rape Sansa, kill Osha and Rickon, feed babies to hungry dogs etc.
Okay now we need the audience to cheer for Rhaenrya, lets make Aegon a rapist who watches his own bastard children in slave fighting pits
they'll probably have him do something else fricked up this season too

        >Making Ramsay rape Sansa
To be fair he does much worse in the books with the character Sansa replaced. The shock value was having it happen to Sansa.

I do wonder how they will whitewash Blood & Cheese.
Like even if she doesn't expressly tell them to do the sadistic shit they do she still sent 2 assassins to kill a child.

They'll do a stupid miscommunication thing where Daemon misconstrues Rhaenrya's orders and arranges the assassination.
It completely neuters the entire thing but we can't have blood on Rhaenrya's hands.

Rhaenyra is not sending them. It’s organised by Daemon and Mysaria. Allegedly Daemon spends most of the season at Harrenhal in the aftermath Rhaenyra is that upset with him.

Given he's just cribbed from the Norman Anarchy anyway. Why didn't GRRM just make Aegon a cousin or something so there's a reason why Rhaenyra was even considered an option over a full blooded legitimate male brother?

  13. 1 month ago
    Anonymous

Because he knows that at the green council everyone would push for Aegon to be named heir, but he feels guilt over his wife's death and this makes him want Rhaenyra as his heir.

This show killed its own narrative with the selective whitewashing. It's not obvious to normies now but later on it will become obvious to them and opinion will swing.

He was a good man but a bad king thats his whole character arc. To become a good kind would have meant becoming a bad man and he refused to do that and was the last noble spark in a degenerate house already too fricked to save. Like Ned Stark he is GRRM saying being a good man is nice in fables but in 'real' life will get you fricked over by evil shits even if they are your family.

Not true at all, if he made Rhaenyra queen while he was still alive, Alicent would have no path towards a power grab, and her paranoia would wane as she would be forced to realize that Rhaenyra was not the murderous b***h she thought she was.
