A bunch of autists whining on message boards doesn't mean he ruined it.

He definitely ruined it, only total morons think otherwise, but it wasn't his fault alone and the movie still made money. And the kind of people who like his other movies are not the Star Wars watching type.

You’re an idiot if you think it wasn’t already ruined with JJ’s the force awakens

You're far less smart than you think you are.
TFA was just as bad as TLJ. Yes.
But the franchise could have been saved after just one bad movie, especially one that was as well-liked as TFA was (initially). TLJ made it unrecoverable.

If you're really going deep into blame you need to blame Lucas for selling to Disney and letting Kathleen Kennedy take over. But, in the end, it was Rian Johnson that made the killing blow.

Everyone hates The Last Jedi, which is why Disney has since retconned much of it.

        >Everyone hates The Last Jedi
Right. Everyone except for casual audiences and professional critics and moviebuffs and filmmakers. Your Youtube echochamber and favorite subreddits sure are the ast majority of people!

Lots of casual audiences hated it too.
          >professional critic
No professional critics of any quality gave honest reviews of TLJ. Most critics were clearly full of shit and I was able to discern that from reading reviews before the movie even came out and I had no idea whether the movie would be good or not.
          >moviebuffs and filmmakers
None that have any understanding of writing or storytelling. Maybe technique autists found the movie interesting. I would admit that on a scene to scene basis, the movie often comes across like it's made by someone competent. But it's not remotely competent storytelling.

It got a Cinemascore rating of A, anon. You cannot get a more verified audience opinion than those viewer polls.

How moronic do you have to be to actually believe such bullshit?
            >None that have any understanding of writing or storytelling.
Kek. So you think Mauler and SWTheory (who initially liked it, by the way, before his comment section coerced him not to) make sound arguments about writing and storytelling?

It was supposed to be a twist that she had no important relatives (Rian hadn't seen the part in the previous movie where she admitted her parents weren't coming back) and had no backstory because Rian didn't want to write one. This was undone because it angered people.

                >where she admitted her parents weren't coming back
Why would not coming back make her parents important?
                >had no backstory because Rian didn't want to write one
Shouldn't it be the task of the first film's director to provide exposition and backstories for the characters?

                >Why would not coming back make her parents important?
I meant that this heavily implied they weren't important. Rian acted like it was new information for the characters.
                >Shouldn't it be the task of the first film's director to provide exposition and backstories for the characters?
Certainly. The whole trilogy is a disaster.

                >I meant that this heavily implied they weren't important.
Then why did fanboys keep speculating like crazy?
Frankly, I wouldn't say that TFA implied anything, much less took a stance on anything. The only definitive thing it did was killing off Han, and that's because Ford demanded that they do.

They ignored the movie's clear implication and no one at Disney bothered to correct them. The fact that Disney actively encouraged speculation about other stuff (which never paid off) doesn't help.

                >the movie's clear implication
Like I said, I didn't feel like TFA implied anything. But maybe that's because I went into it knowing of Abrams tendencies to make up meaningless shit for the sake of "Mystery Boxes".

Oh, the movie certainly has plenty of moronic mystery boxes, but I don't think this was intended to be one.

                >I don't think this was intended to be one.
Well, I think it was. That kinda is Abrams' problem though. One can never be sure what he intended to do, or whether he had any intent to begin with.

star wars 8 as a film was fine, only smelly part was the gambling planet. the problem is that disney don't know what a trilogy is. they think it's just a series of three films, they didn't understand its a single story in three parts. so it all wound up disjointed and moronic

This guy convinced me that writing is way more important than directing. How can someone who directed some of the most kino episodes of Breaking Bad frick up so badly with everything else? The only reasonable explanation is that the writing team for Breaking Bad was so good that they managed to make an absolute moron look like a great director.
