Everything exists to sell character merch, so what Manga even see serialization, what web novels get picked up for dead tree publication, and what of those is adapted for the screens all revolves around the wider Star Wars-esque monetization of the property.
No there's a pretty big sea change between the traditional toy sponsor and the production committee.
Eva doing Mecha without a traditional toy sponsor wasn't unprecedented but it was very abnormal and unlike Gundam, specifically.
Oh It's much better than the manga. Manga is way overlong, full of nothing characters and even the ones shared with the movie are somehow more boring, and the ending is far worse. Whole second half is just a waste of time and ink. Only benefit of the manga is all the art of destroyed buildings and shit. Movie is concise and powerful and effective.
Anime popularity peaked and is now on a downward slide. It was getting mainstream for a while, but now it's starting to become embarrassing to admit you watch or like anime again.
Normal people who are properly socialized don't like the weeb pedo side of Japanese culture. I loved classic anime but I hardly even watch anything unless its by a respected director or based on a classic property because i don't want to frick 13 year old fox girls or molest little horny boys.
It's overexposed tbh
As an animation project, it's unparalleled, but as a story it's significantly flawed and it has pacing issues, so if you go into expecting one of the best movies ever made after all the hype it's gotten, you might be a bit dissapointed
Probably because the "story" is bad and zoomers are too moronic to appreciate a film purely for its set pieces, audio, animation, and spectacle. Because they're tearing their hair out trying to work out what "the message" is.
It’s an uneven story that asks too much of its audience to bridge concepts without what would come after in the manga. But what is there is still very very good, bordering on incredible on a large cinema screen. A peak technical achievement regardless of how people evaluate the success of the narrative story, but mileage varies on that as an accolade in isolation
Cinemaphile has always been shit. If you want to talk about boards turning full troony, I’m ashamed to say that I used to be a Cinemaphiletant back around 2010. That steaming pile of shit of a board is unrecognizable now, it somehow has become exponentially gaygier which I didn’t think could be possible
Should I watch this? Haven't really enjoyed anime in years. Every time my friends recommend me whatever the new thing is, it's full of edgy shit I don't like.
>Why do anime fans hate it now?
They realized that they were memed into liking it and the movie is really an incoherent mess with a couple cool looking scenes.
A work's reach is directly proportional to its detractors.
Yeah but I don't want the movies I watch to have "reach", I want them to be good
It was always inferior to the manga tbh.
Manga was in black and white, so you're automatically wrong.
There's a pretty good colored version
Here’s a doc about the dark horse manga’s coloring
this guy gets it.
the manga is one of the best i've ever read. fricking great story.
Anime are just long abridged commercials for Manga. They aren't meant to be actual works
People reee so god damn hard at this, because its true.
TV anime maybe, movies are made to make money.
In the 80s and 90s, anime films that weren't ghibli all bombed. Even shit like Akira and Ghost in the Shell lost millions.
There's a decent amount of anime that were never manga.

Largely Evangelion's fault, no joke.
>Largely Evangelion's fault
Eva was just following in Gundam's footsteps when it came to merch.

the manga sucks ass

the soundtrack alone overshadows the manga completely
>anime fans
You mean troons?
Why do troons hate?
Because they are against nature and beauty
I actually like the anime better. The manga felt a little too bloated.
That's got to be the best motorcycle in all of media
I don't, still got the pioneer DVD box
trannies dont understsnd the story because they only watched it once
Inconclusive ending
Zoomers can't relate to pre-Internet biker gangs.
Because normies like anime now, and a lot of anime fans (along with other nerds) are bitter contrarians who resent normal people
No coom material

Because modern anime fans don't know true kino when they see it.
I don't know
why don't kids go outside anymore?
It's hand drawn soulful kino with great music and an amazing aesthetic. Anime hasn't been like that in forever.

because anime fans who identify as anime fans are usually room temperature iq subhumans

It sets a standard that modern tranime can't meet. They prefer trash that doesn't require actual talent to produce

Wrong board
>Cinemaphile
troony board atm, worst jannies possible, very hard to have a high level discussion there.

You do realize shit can be cool, can be overhyped and not as good as it’s made out to be, but still be cool. Right?
False advertising. Not enough bike chases. They check out at the boardroom scene.
