Why do boomers seem to worship the 80s as the golden age of movies when in hindsight it was more of a dark age and had a 5th of the number of good movies the 70s and 90s had?

Also to make it clear for the morons who can't read I'm not saying there were no good 80s movies. Love the thing, Blade runner once upon a time in America, etc.

millennials can't handle anything that came out before 1980 because it's too racist and misogynistic for them

What boomers? It always was considered a weak era, apart from some nostalgia flicks. Between 80 and 89 Scorsese didn't do much, and Coppola also stopped having good kino after 79

Telling us the 80s were bad for movies and they don't even recognize kinos.

Also it was such a good boom for scifi and horror.

It's shit compared to 90s and 70s, doesn't mean there are no kinos at all.

mediocre, and raging bull was release 1980, made during the late 70s

Exactly, almost all the good 80s movies came out from 1980-1982. Kino overflow from 70s.

90s action is shit in comparison, but general drama isn't. Action dropped a lot after the early 90s. Demolition Man and Total Recall and Point Break.. and then a lot of nothing until Matrix at the end of 99.

Heat came out in '95, refined the action genre with its realistic gunplay making way for the 2000s action movies like Bourne and Craig Bond.

I appreciate the technical aspects, but it's not a fun movie to me like 80s action. I don't care about too realistic, in the end.

And? Those movie were made to entertain. That was the point of movies. They weren't so much focused on making artsy shit or pretentious films when Euro film was more than capable. Americans just wanted to make really good movies.

You're just parroting Tarantino. I wasn't born in the 80s but it had some of the most classic kinos that are better remembered than older classics. Also it was the era of Laserdisc and VHS so it allowed riskier new movies that could have a second wind in the home video market.

I'm not parroting Tarantino I hate that homosexual. I just realised looking at my letterboxd that I can count the number of 80s movies I like on 2 hands compared to the 70s and 90s which have endless kinos.

Basically all years have excellent top 10s so I think top 50 is a pretty fair minimum. And 1970-72 have very weak top 50s as I recall.
