The Witch is Horror, but Drama (female led) is more popular too. Someone already explained it:
      Female action heroes are anti-immersion.
Think of the scene from Endgame where the women band together during the battle. Everyone thought "what the frick?".

because its not believable. Some time ago redditors found out how much stronger than a woman a man was, and the entire site had a meltdown. Any random wastelander could easily beat furiosa to death, no contest.

And John Wick fighting his way through Paris is believable? Max mad being able to wrestle down 3 war boys is believe?

Men straight up fly in movies, and people still find that more believable than a woman fighting people.

Also, do women even want to do that? Make your lesbian movies, but nobody wants to see them. If you disagree, then fix the Furiosa box office.

Then the problem is you, not the movies.

You don't watch a movie because it's believable wtf is that argument. You watch it because you think it will be good (or your friends that you trust think so).
It's a shame because Furiosa is good. It's a good old revenge story, Mad max creator was a homosexual for trying to bait people with Max instead of making it very clear from the get go. He's now paying for it with Furiosa, I don't know what he was expecting.

Terminator 2 and Aliens are some of the best performing action movies ever, being female lead isn’t the reason. Hollywood is just incompetent now

It works because a man wouldn't fare much better in those situations. Ripley isn't getting into a fistfight with a xenomorph.

They do about the same. It's an illusion that they don't. Films in theatres that aren't mainstream are going fail because most folks will just watch it on streaming.

There's also the fact that the vast majority of women don't even want to watch action movies. Media executives think a few thousand people on Twitter represent general audiences when most statistics show women are watching either some rom-com or a crime thriller. like If they wanted something like "The Marvels" to become popular, they should have added a romance subplot and a shirtless hot guy, women love that

  8. 2 weeks ago

They do fine when they bother to pander to the male demographic who actually watch action films. e.g. Kill Bill, Underworld, Resident Evil, etc

The trouble is that female-led films need to take some lessons from older female-led films and incorporate more of a gender dynamics. The women in recent content are strong ladies, but they don't have children, husbands, boyfriends, crushes, it's as if they are hatched from an egg as adults and just presented to us.

They can be badass but just be sure to sprinkle in something that makes them also relatable to a male viewer. It's sad, but true that in most cases you have to show that the female in the movie has some sort of easily identifiable feminine trait.

Otherwise, idiots will assume the worst. Ripley works cause she protecting a girl, hence displaying motherly tendencies, at least in a visual sense.

Sarah Conner, again same thing cause she protecting the future of her son, and of course humanity. You've always got to tack on some reason why the woman is doing what she is doing and it usually has to be for some familial reason.

Otherwise, idiots will be too dense to let her exist as just being a badass.

Neither does John Wick, James Bond, Indiana Jones, Schwarzenegger in like 99% of his roles, Tony Stark, Bruce Lee in any of his movies, Jack Chan in most of his. The list goes on

And having none of those things stopped Lara Croft from becoming a sensation.

Yeah, that's why Furiosa is good. She loved someone, was wronged and got her revenge.
Marvelslop fails because they make it too obvious (strong women good) and they're bad at power-leveling, two red flags for nerds.
Nerds already know that cool characters are cool and already read a bunch of fiction with male and female leads.

because women cause drama, not action.
men frick (perform the action), while women get fricked (receive the action). they are nothing but a boring, noisy life support system for a warm, moist hole you can cram your dick in.

Witch was a low budget terror film
Furiosa is a big budget action film

    >Furiosa gets a B+ CinemaScore like Mad Max: Fury Road. Males are present at 72%, the 18-34 crowd reps 55% of the audience, and Imax and PLFS rep 54% of the weekend gross.

    >Friday night audiences branded Witch with a C- CinemaScore. PostTrak also reported a very low audience approval rate at 55% positive. Only 41% of those who sat through the movie said they’d give it a thumbs up to a friend. Older males made up the majority at 59% guys, 55% over 25. CinemaScore also shows men at 54%, 71% over 25. However, females at 46%, couldn’t stand The Witch with a D+.

women dont like grotesque films, but they can be profitable if they're cheap

Women in Hollywood and women in general often have a different perspective on action and violence. They tend to view it more as a concept rather than something they can actively engage with. They don't care about fight choreography or recognize the skills of actors in portraying action; they are more interested in the outcome of the antagonist being defeated. Women in Hollywood want to create the outcome but compelling action isn't typically their priority. but it's possible for a woman to craft compelling action scenes (Punisher: War Zone), such women are exceedingly rare

        Anonymous

I'm just talking about the general concept.
Imagine a normal woman, maybe your mom or sister, waking up and thinking "I'm going to go see Die Hard tonight." In what world does this happen? Unless she's being dragged along by a man to go see it, 99% of the time this woman does not functionally exist. Making the protag a try-hard woman behaving like a man doesn't make it any better either, because you're removing any possible sex appeal that might lure some curious women to the theater.

That doesn't explain the popularity of the MCU with women, though

            Anonymous

I think that was more a phenomenon of "consensus thinking" rather than genuine interest in the IP. FOMO on the big popular event movie that everyone will be talking about. Also Thor and Tony Stark both had unique sex appeal for women who like brawny vikings or charismatic intellects.

The first three Phases of the MCU drew massive amounts of women and created countless new female fans. the selling point to them were the hot guys and romance, diversity of attractive, watchable men taking their shirts off, whatever 'type' you were into the MCU had you covered from stud Chris Hemsworth to DILF Paul Rudd to tall paleman Cumberbatch and they enjoyed seeing roguish playboy Tony Stark's will-they/won't-they flirtation with Pepper Potts, and superhunk Steve Rogers' doomed love with Carter.

Women like watching social drama, not kinrtic action, and a female lead requires women to view in large percentages to be commercially successful
