Some of the crew were shooting off set for fun I think, left a live one in the chamber. Unbelievable negligence from someone who's only job is "make sure the guns are safe".

How is Baldwin getting in legal trouble over this then? It was the armourers fault.

I’ve never even held a gun, I wouldn’t know how to open one much less tell between blanks and live ammo. Baldwin obviously has used them for movie roles but probably has very little familiarity or even interest in how guns work.

It all looks so sterile. And the cinematography is trash nowadays. In most big films too.
They don't play around with lighting or create cool shots without CGI anymore.
What's up with all the close up shots and jump cuts too? Most movies just to a new camera within 2-3 seconds nowadays.
Even the original Diary of a Wimpy kids movies did a better job with shots creating suspense, lighting, and conveying emotion through visual rather than hand holding through dialog and explaining.

Add film stocks to that list also, the 90s stock you'd see in films like Heat doesn't even exist anymore I think.

        Anonymous

You're right, they don't. The amount of motion picture film stocks now is extremely limited, so pretty much everything that's shot on color film now has the same look.

This is why I find Die Hard With A Vengeance to be one of the best looking movies ever for some reason and I never understood why until recently.

90's movies basically became the peak of film quality and practical effects before CGI and digital took over, so they're basically the pinnacle of refining the original process and technology of filmmaking.

      >subtle film grain for some reason just feels warmer to look at, couldn't tell you why
      >practical effects and "movie magic"
      >shot on location not an entirely green sound stage
      >actors who are handsome but still look like normal people for the most part like Bruce Willis
      >movies still have blood, swearing, R rating is used for blockbusters not relegated to horror movies

Mostly shot on digital cameras so nothing looks 'real' anymore. All the lighting is fricked and it all looks artificial. A great example is The Irishman, that film is one of the ugliest I've ever seen.

Pretty sure Tarantino still uses film and that's why his movies still look fantastic.

It’s more than just cg or digital cameras. It’s also set and production design. Everything looks too clean. Films don’t feel real anymore. They feel like Hollywood actors coming in for a scene, dressed by someone from wardrobe, and put on a green screen set to say quickly say their lines before their starbucks gets cold.

I’ve been watching a lot of 70s and 80s movies and I love how they feel. Most of them are shot outside in real locations, in imperfect conditions, it’s cloudy or it rains. Streets are dirty and there’s real shit on the floor. Actors, especially the extras, are ugly. They’re fat and look tired and are balding and are wearing shitty old clothes. I fricking love it and the more I watch them the less I can stand those new, sanitized, netflixed ‘movies’.

i agree 100%. even though i really liked mad men all the actors looked way too clean for people who spend 95% of their day sitting indoors in a smoke filled office.
especially roger who looks like a very healthy, tanned, thin man. a man who exercises and is mindful of his diet. it is impossible too look like that at 50 having smoked unfiltered cigs and slamming booze your entire life.

But anon Dudes who were 50 did look that in the past. Look at the actors from that era

sean connery, paul newman, clint eastwood have always been keen on health and exercise. they'd spend their leisure time surfing and skiing.
roger the character is portrayed as a hard drinker who maybe plays some golf with clients from time to time. slattery the actor obviously is not

Yeah but his Character was also born into wealth so less stress in life plus he did no work and just inherited all his clients from his dad. Also was talking about actual actors in their 50s at that time. Look at James Stewart and Clarke Gable

compare how roger looks compared to don from s1 to s7. because jon hamm is an alkie irl he gets bloated and sweaty. john slattery is obviously not a drinker. compared to idk pic related from good bad ugly. dude very convincingly looks like a hard drinker

There is no longer any consensus reality plus movies are being made by megalomaniac narcissists who think they can shoot people in broad daylight in front of witnesses and get away with it because they lie for a living and are in the business of imposing whatever reality they like

Why is dialogue so much worse than it used to be? I'm binging 80's movies right now, mostly low budget horror, but even the worst of them usually has decent dialogue. Sounds like people actually talking, especially between male friends.
In modern movies, every line sounds forced, even the "casual" conversation sounds like people reading from a script.

  27. 1 year ago

because its all green screen and cgi and then a year of tweaking and editing so the actors dont look as ugly as they normally do.
