Why do people keep thinking X-Men 97 is 3D when it's 2D?

There's some CGI like lot of modern cartoons but extremely obvious and the rest of the show is 2D.

I would have liked it if they ACTUALLY USED HAND DRAWN CHARACTERS...fricks sake flash looks more lively and involving then this show at times.

Depends on how you define "CGI". Because a lot of the show is definitely puppety rig animation. Which is still CGI in my book. I think the show looks good in most areas, but a lot of the scenes where there's no action and just characters talking... yeah, it's extremely noticeable and looks very, very bad.

          Anonymous

Of course, but I'm also aware we use language to differentiate things in a way that goes beyond its purely literal meaning to facilitate clearer communication. At least, those of us without debilitating autism do

I don't know why you think 2D can't be CG.

              Anonymous

It is indeed computer generated imagery. But it is accepted convention for CGI to refer to 3D models and it only causes confusion when communicating to go against this convention. We all know 2D can be created on a computer. We all also know what everyone else means when they say CGI. So we establish a social convention to ease communication with all except the most stubborn pedants

Because it's doing the budget thing of lower animation when characters aren't big scenes, anime done it for decades, Superman even does it and lot of other cartoons even old ones like Batman TAS or hell the original show as janky as it was or X-Men Evolution just look at this: https://youtu.be/lO43_-EW6ns?feature=shared&t=225 look at bump in quality when she flips out which this show was animated by Madhouse.

It's because people are still used to hand-drawn inbetweening and when it's mathematically fluid because it's rigs changing position, people associate that with cg

Invincible character designs lot more flat, X-Men 97 designs are very rounded and animation not rigs, that studio does digipaint and cgi anon, if it was rigs Disney do it in house not outsource.
