Just rented this movie on Amazon, and holy crap was it a disappointment. Every reviewer on YouTube said this was 10/10 perfect so I was expecting like Arcane level stuff.
The movie was just confusing I was kind of disengaged watching it. Frankly I didn’t really like Moon Knight. I feel like if you want to watch a movie about generational trauma then just watch Encanto. Heck even Turning Red was more enjoyable. If you care bout action then just watch an actual superhero film. At least the visuals made up for Doctor Strange’s poor plot. Can’t really say the same for this.

These were festival screenings. The movie truly premiered to the theaters in late March-April and made a small comeback in May. So in other words, pretty close to june. If this movie was released during autumn or during winter, it would have gotten 7-8/10 review score instead and nobody would have given a shit

I cannot imagine seeing this outside of a theater and would be interested on how that would impact my rewatch.
My only complaint is that it is very dense, long, and drawn out, for what is ultimately a simple message. I remember feeling exhausted during one of the many climaxes of the movie where she's navigating up the stairs and solving everyone's problems.

It was a fun film that should have been 15-20 minutes shorter as it got tiring in the end. It's not the masterpiece of the ages, like Reddit would have you to believe, haha buttplug funny, but it's pretty good.

Some jokes like the racoon and hotdog fingers fell flat to me but I'd take it over the stupid lesbian daughter plot. I was more invested in the relationship between the mother and father. The daughter could have worked just fine if the issue was something like her being a listless, college drop out or something, or if their was more honesty over the lesbian stuff.

I personally liked it because it was well-made, had great performances from most of the cast (especially Waymond's actor), and had a genuinely optimistic message in the sea of negativity and misery that is modern Hollywood.
What kept it from being a great movie was all of the sophomoric attempts at humor that fail to land. The antagonist beating people with dildos, people jumping on to butt plugs, and especially the hot dog finger universe were all painfully unfunny and detracted greatly from the movie. Racacoonie-verse was the only tolerable one of those jokes and even then I didn't like it. If they would have struck a more serious tone and interspersed the film with kung-fu slapstick like there was in the first act the movie had a chance to be excellent.
I was really disappointed by the quality of the kung-fu/slapstick. Nothing seemed to have the weight that it should have andit didn't follow proper joke structure, which made it just boring.

It was good but not great. My biggest problem with it was how stylistically blunt it was. It doesn’t invite the audience to engage with its themes or structure, instead it’s an audiovisual onslaught of images and colors. They explicitly tell you the message in several different scenes. It didn’t have any subtlety so it’s not even remotely as intellectual as it pretends to be. Not sure why people are calling it a masterpiece.
