90% of the criticism ive seen of injustice supes pretty much compares him to characters like omni man or homelander, rather than him just coming to the conclusion that no one will ever actually be peaceful without the threat of being lasered to death

It's everything that he did after killing Joker that people had a problem with. Injustice Superman just kept escalating and doing more questionable things.
Because he overstepped his boundaries, established a fascist one-world government, and murdered those he disagreed with. He even went so far as to level Gotham and Metropolis for criticizing his methods and opposing his rule. Killing Joker was the least of Injustice Superman's problems.
That's like part 1 of Injustice, it's parts 11-30 that you can actually call him evil for. It annoyed me that Bruce was still on that old Joker shit like 5 years later tbh.

There's a 30 year old comic, that eerily predicted this segment of the Injustice storyline, and did it a lot better. In Superman Annual #3 (a tie-in to Armageddon 2001) Waverider, trying to determine who the Monarch is, examines one of Superman's alternate futures. In it, Metropolis is destroyed by a nuke (this time by Intergang) and Superman devoted hinself to ridding the world of nuclear weapons and aggression. The government approaches Batman about taking down Superman, but Bats tells them to frick off because Superman's actually improving things, and the US govt will just become a greedy war-monger again. Batman does decide to try and deal with Clark after people start dying because of him (accidentally this time), and Superman genuinely feels bad for those deaths instead of being some one-dimensional prick.
