Why do people treat actors with such reverence? This clown spent his entire adult life pretending to be a spaceman and people treat him like he's a great intellectual of our times

It's not just actors, it's musicians, painters, directors...
People want to be told what to think and believe by someone they consider superior, even if that person is only good at one thing and has really nothing to say

Wasn’t Stewart an accomplished theater actor in Britain before doing Star Trek? Classically trained, Shakespeare, and all that?
And he only wanted to play Picard for a little bit, just to pay the bills, until he got more prestigious work. Well, look how that ended up!

      >Classically trained, Shakespeare, and all that?
Oooh he can do poetry and pretend to be a little knight with a sword or some shit. How does that make him an intellectual?

Even if you people are fricking zoomers, a few seconds is all it would take to look at his Wikipedia or IMDb page and see he was in plenty of cool and/or prestigious stuff before TNG. I, Clavdivs; Tinker, Tailor and Smiley's People; Excalibur; Lifeforce; fricking Dune? Dude was even in Civilisation (which I need to rewatch). And all that in addition to his stage work in the RSC. He was not some struggling unknown prior to 1987, nor did his "entire adult life" begin at 47.

Now, OP is correct in calling him a clown. Stewart is simultaneously a fine actor and a moronic champagne-socialist arsehole with terrible creative instincts.

I agree, there is no champagne socialists, there are just socialists, they were always rich wienersuckers
Marx - wealthy family, later lived off rent Engels got for his factory
Le Che - Maté plantation owner
Bakunin - unironic noble, married another noble
Hassan Piker - billionaire family, royal roots

          On it goes.

I don't care if you disapprove, anon. The term fits him perfectly. This is a man who was only too happy to weigh in on the evils of Brexit, despite having left the UK decades earlier and being completely insulated from the various problems affecting lower- and middle-class UK voters. (Which isn't to say "Leavers" weren't misguided in thinking Brexit would ultimately change anything). In his mind he thinks he's eternally of and for the working class because he grew up in a home with an outside toilet. Meanwhile, he's "infinity browns for thee, but not for me". He's textbook champagne-socialist, whether you accept it or not.

          And this...
          >don't try to make things better with your wealth
...*this* is fricking absurd. Unless Stewart has made some huge donations to charity (and not, say, a Democrat campaign fund, or a charity that only benefits non-whites) I'm unaware of.

Maybe not an intellectual, but leftists absolutely consider Patrick Stewart to be some grand moral authority. They get their worldview from sci-fi and comic book movies and young adult novels.
