Wasn't the point of the movie Psycho, except to show that there are a lot of people in the world who are delusional for a variety of different reasons? All of the people killed are fools who get baited by base instinct and do nothing for their own safety, despite Bateman being an otherwise largely incompetent killer.

no, the point was that in the film's logic every character's surface level image is actually their reality. so bateman and every other character aren't real people because they have nothing on the inside, bateman was only one who was self-aware about this. the movie was about superficiality not mental illness or delusion.

This is what I hate about fricking art. Pretentious artsy types LOVE to make obscure movies without a point and then say "it's all about how the audience interprets it" but then when a director has a fixed vision for a movie you're "missing the point" by interpreting it your own way.
