I actually really disliked Pattinson’s, which a lot of Batman fans said was a step up

It looks like it's made of a million different pieces. It's so busy they bat symbol becomes lost in it

Batman's superfans will say every movie is a step up. They will accept nothing less than hype for Batman. If Batman Forever were released next week for the first time ever, they'd call various aspects of it "a step up".

I've never really liked the mask portion of the suit, the body is fine personally. Just the head shape plus the nose and ears just look off to me.

It's fine in the movies but if you look at it on its own it sucks compared to most of the others. The other suits in the Arkham Knight gallery, for example, mog it so hard I never use it even though I like the Dark Knight movies the most.

    Because it’s stupid design wise:
    >super unnecessarily segmented armor plates that even if you wanted to say “muh flexibility/mobility” you only need a few places on the body to enable movement, not so many joints and gaps to where you can get shot/stabbed like nothing
    >looks like fricking hockey pads on the shoulder
    >the utility belt is damn near Barron
    >the symbol is super small etc

The Begins suit was the best live-action suit of the past 2 decades.

Wouldn't go that far, but yeah, TDK was just them scrambling to come up with something else for toys and failing.

I don't know about all that but it was definitely the only good Batsuit in the Nolan trilogy.

Over detailed, bland color, symbol doesn't stand out enough
Also makes him look DYEL for some reason

Because they look fricking awful. Not quite as bad as Shumacher's but fricking awful.

Because the point of the bat suit is to make him look like a bat monster, under the cover of night and a little smoke and mirrors misdirection.
Nolan ripped all the fantastical elements of Batman in favor of generic army tacticool with some vague bat imagery.
Hell, even if it does look goofy in real life, a suit that makes him look like a lunatic in a bat costume is still marginally more threatening than a guy in impractical body armor. At least the former looks crazy.

To me, it's because the point of Batman is that he's a normal guy who can't just take on ten dudes in a straight fight, so he uses misdirection and ninja tactics to project himself as scary. So a little bit of protection in the chest wouldn't necessarily be bad, but when he's fully armored-up in a bulky, unwieldly suit it looks off.
That's why I also don't like it when Batman straight up tanks gunfire, like when Affleck took a round to the fricking head point blank and didn't budge or Pattison just shrugged off assault rifle fire while walking ahead. You can handwave it, establish that he's using ultra-lightweight mega-kevlar, but I think the stakes would be greater if you know that Batman can get fricked by a single bullet but needs to convince the goons that he's invincible.
