Jupiter's Ascending is supreme idiocy, with admittedly cool visuals and Redmayne overreacting is funny, but in the end of the day is massively generic YA bullshit written awfully and while the visual concepts themselves are good the cinematography itself is nothing special.
Reloaded is worse than the first and is essentially half the movie but I think it's overhated just like Revolutions. The biggest issue is the pacing which evens out if you watch them together. Invasion wasn't made by Wachowkies they have a very minor writing credit. I haven't seen Ninja Assasin but as far as I know they also don't have much to do with it. Cloud Atlas is an interesting case. Just like with most Wachowski films it's normalgay new age bullshit philosophy but if you're not super annoyed by it that it's actually a decent film. The asian makeup is pretty fricking funny and it's surprising they basically got away with yellowface (I think Lana already trooned out by that time so it could be troony cred) but it's a cool ambitious melodrama action film with great action setpieces that has this typical new age concept of universal connection and shit but it's done well and could be emotionally impactful if you're in that sorta thing.
Resurrections is only Lana and it's one part trying to cope with parents dying by bringing the characters back, but also Lana trolling the shit out of studio who probably the suggested the idea and the idea of reboots overall. It's very badly made. I don't mind it being all colorful and shit, but it's shot like a TV show (specifically Wachowski's Sense8) even tho Lana had like a 100 million budget, I guess it's the part of le subversion but I'd rather have that only in writing and have the film at least competently shot. Also choreography looked like shit, but then I looked at rehearsals and it's actually good so most likely it's shitty editing and cinematography ruining potentially good action scenes.

On the other hand, Resurrections has more new shit thematically for the franchise, and despite the shitty cinematography and mediocre CGI it's pace much better than the sequels. It's not boring or anything like that. Just the way it's shot is baffling at first. Then you kinda get it but it's still not good.

i don't hate the plot either, it's entierly passable
film is a visual medium, a good script can be ruined by bad or mediocre direction while a mediocre or bad script can be salvaged by a great direction
Speed Racer is the a mediocre script salvaged by a great directrion. And it's not like it has to have a great script, action movies are called action movies because they're about good action first. Then another important thing is the pacing. This is where the script comes into place, and when the script is very bloated it can harm the film hard no matter how great the visuals are. But Speed Racer is a very simple straightforward film which is an advantage.

"Oh yeah its my favorite film, its plot is passable"

Film is a visual medium, but its not JUST a visual medium. Its an amalgamation of many forms of creativity brought together. If you fail something as basic as the writing and the events being depicted, some good visuals are only going to help so much.

And honestly, the visuals were never even that good. Had the same issue Attack of the Clones has, you're CONSTANTLY aware the actors are just standing in front of a green screen.

So in short, it has literally nothing going for it.

                it's not my favourite film
but I can see if someone really liked that specific type of visuals and also really likes racing films overall (and also hasn't seen many movies) it can be their favourite film
Also if we go into the autistic pretentious specifics (I can't help but do that) then film is more or less about visual movement and the lack of it (as pacing is highly important, no wonder autistic shit like vulgar auterism which is about action films that defy the usual standarts, and slow cinema movement exist). You can have a film with no real plot that is good, you can have a film without sound that is good obviously, you can have a film without images that is good (Derek Jarman's Blue). Yeah, pretentious artsy whatever non arguments. The films are good if I enjoy them, and I enjoyed films without plot, and I enjoyed Derek Jarman's Blue etc. But would Derek Jarman's Blue be the same if the image wasn't you know Blue. The color is highly important here. And it is a visual. Film is flexible but the uniform thing is that there's images that convey either concepts directly (metaphors) or images that produce a certain emotion, and overall aesthetic. And pacing is always important here. To move the camera, or not, to cut here or not, how fast to move the camera, how fast to cut, have all natural imagery, or formalist editing with text, symbols on screen etc.

I liked Cloud Atlas well enough for its ambition and because I read and enjoyed the novel. It's not a very good movie though and the novel qualifies for one of those "books that are literally unfilmable" memes like Cormac McCarthy, Gene Wolfe etc.

It's a modern kung-fu movie. Action is shot well and was stylish enough to be remembered. In a genre where you have horribly shot shit like the Raid movies I don't get why people would hate it other than just not liking the genre.
