Why do writers keep making him the most overpowered mary sue in every story he's in?

Why do writers keep making him the most overpowered mary sue in every story he's in? He's up there with the Joker in terms of being OP.

It's not every story, he alternates between being OP and a pathetic sadsack. I think the writers are stuck trying to overcompensate for each others' bullshit.

I think the problem with varying between those two is that it's OP against literally GODS, omnipotent Beings and enemies that he barely knows or has super detailed plans to practically kill his friends.

And then it's a pathetic sadsack against even more pathetic characters like the Riddler, the Penguin, Black Mask and the fricking Joker.

Right. They can't decide if Batman can solo the Justice League and Darkseid with prep time or if he loses to basic criminals like Black Mask or Hush.

I think the stuff like Batman Who Laughs took it to an absurd level. I feel like the Arkham Games should be the upper limit of how OP Batman should get. Though minus the video game mechanics, Scarecrow having a Knighfall-esque plan to wear Batman down doesn't really work story-wise when Batman literally gets stronger with every villain defeated and drone destroyed.

Because he has to be in the Justice League. And Joker needs to not be a joke with universe level villains.
Dennis O'Neil had the right idea, plug your ears and pretend Gotham is in a separate universe unless you really, really need the outside acknowledged.

Nah, play into it and have a story that goes Full Matrix with the idea

Batman feels like one of those characters that shouldn't leave the street level or start talking about it among writers because it's stupid how in Gotham he loses or is overtaken by a bunch of mentally ill people with no martial skills who just want to rob a bank or kill a person but in the Justice League or with magicians he turns out to be extremely threatening, known in the galaxy and respected by people like Darkseid

On the one hand, the Joker laughs in Batman's face and tells him that he is as crazy as him and on the other, fricking Darkseid tells him that he is a genius and respects him.

We just need the right writer to dare say that the Joker's toxin can affect Darkseid and for us to see him using it while Darkseid laughs until he's on his knees before the Joker.
It would be so fricking stupid but it would make so many people angry and inflate the egos of the bat fans.

Not Darkseid, but it actually has been used on his son Grayven before.

Most writers aren't clever enough to think of ways he can help through wit and ingenuity, so they just heap plot armor on him.

Ehh comics were always dumb and outrageous, but I was never bothered by Batman in non-comicbook media. I didn't notice anything until I got on the internet with people and their contrarian opinions.

I would say it depends a lot on the animated things.

For example, from TAS to JL this theme doesn't feel so heavy because we saw Batman battle his enemies in Gotham for years until he joined the League and there he began to help and be helped by Superman and WW.

I think that in the movies based on the New 52 is where this theme of Batman and the Bat-family in general is most noticeable fighting with enemies who are practically gods but then in Gotham City they are like punching bags for the criminal on duty.

This hasn’t been relevant in over ten years though. Snyder, King, tynion, ram, chip, and on and on have treated him as useless without his insufferable, over-bloated “family”. So why even ask this?

It works when it's limited to Batman within his comics.

Supes was known for jumping tall buildings before they gave him the op ability to fly. What was Batman known for before having “prep time?” Just being a gadget man?

him being a needlessly paranoid, dejected dipshit is a much more common and recurring issue. It's like writers are incapable of telling stories where he doesn't create most of his own problems despite gotham being right fricking there

It is very difficult to write a character who is smarter and more competent than yourself.
Batman's IQ is 192. Batman is a professionally trained Ninja, Monk, Boxer, MMA Fighter, Marine, and Astronaut. Batman has charisma enough to frick a woman on her wedding day at her wedding ceremony and have the entire audience, husband and the husband's family included, cheer raucously.

How the frick is a comic author of all people supposed to know how to emulate ANY of those?
