Wouldn't plate armor, even thin plate only over the torso, be heavy enough to be a death sentence if someone wearing it fell overboard? Seems as dumb as the US Navy's waterflage.

        Anonymous

Good point but what is the logic behind the uniforms in your pic? If you fall overboard you'll be harder to spot because of your dope aquacamo? watertarn? what is that?

There was no operational justification for it. They did it because recruits like camo and were picking other branches of the military to serve in instead of the Navy. Yes, people will make decisions of that magnitude on really dumb criteria such as how much they like the uniforms.

            Anonymous

I mean navy = blue kind of makes sense it's just the camopattern that's odd.
Like grey uniform with camo to blend in against the ship when you're on deck or whatever would at least make some kind of sense I guess? In the unlikely event you're dealing with crowmast snipers like in the 1800s.

              Anonymous

What makes the most sense is giving all branches the same combat uniform. If sailors ever actually have to use it they are issued the multicam flavor anyways.

              Anonymous

Ships are dangerous industrial sites where high visibility is important. Falling overboard isn't rare, so you want sailors to be highly visible in the water. Snipers are about as common as meteoroid strikes. At least up on deck of aircraft carriers they get high vis jackets, color coded by job function.

It's literally a sailing outfit, Elendil is introduced in the show as a captain of a ship. Not for the military but a more a patrol and general purpose sea vessel.
I mean his official name in the show is *Captain* Elendil

I'm not even going to get into the completely distorted take on the budgets but trying to pass off a skipper of hunk of wood on a nation who has not seen war for centuries a comparable to a commander or Gondor at the height of war is highly disingenuous.
That's all the PJ fanatics seem to be able to do though, I mean if those movies are so superior they should be able to make an argument without resorting to flat out lies. Funny how they don't seem to be able to though.

Isn't it awesome how the gear of every faction perfectly explains who they are?
Gondor: noble men in shining armour
Rohan: more rugged and down to earth armour than Gondor
Elves: slender and mysterious, hiding themselves in cloaks
        Isengard: brutal, minimalistic, efficient
Orcs: wearing whatever they could scrap together or loot on the way

        Goddamn LoTR was well made

It took me 30 seconds to check this, you are not even close
ROP S1 and the LOTR trilogy have basically the same runtime and the trilogy far exceeds the cost of ROP s1 which will average to around $250m a season by the end

Why is the go to Jacksongay cope always so utterly disingenuous?

          >250m
          Why are you lying?
The baseline estimates are 462 million for the first season alone.

And thats not counting the rights purchase (which is acceptable) and the tax incentives which were 150 million in NZ alone.
And while NZ allegedly only has paid out 30 million of those incentives they also estimated the show budget to be closer to 600 million

I'm sure you can do the math

              See

Fellowship of the Ring budget: 94 million
              >RoP season 1 budget: 465 million
              >not including the 250 million to purchase the rights
              >not including 100 million in tax breaks from NZ
              >RoP season 1 budget adjusted for inflation from the year 2000: 270 million USD
              >fellowship runtime 178-228 minutes (theatrical vs extended cut)
              >RoP runtime 480-552 minutes (60-69 minutes in 8 episodes)
              >Fellowship $/minute 528,000 - 412,000
              >RoP $/minute 562,500 - 489,000

So in the year 2000 a talented team created 3 Blockbuster movies based on Tolkien's work that set the benchmark for how fantasy characters look, how they are written and how fantasy and action are depicted on film. Someone post the making-of of 5 dudes making chainmail by hand for 2 years.

Rings of Power has not managed to come close to the battle of Helm's Deep Kino. It's costumes, sets, action choreography (Morff is traumatized and thus can't handle stage combat/things moving at her). And they had a comparable (if not slighly higher) Budget than the LOTR team had.
              So the difference is obvious.

LOTR had passionate, quality people whose performances and workmanship has endured the test of time and raised the bar.

ROP doesn't have any of it.

Armor in the OP and armor from the hobbit, what is that tattered chain mail even suppose to do? It's moronic

It's not so much that Amazon wasted its money, it's just that the people these days for all kinds of media, from TV shows, to film, to video games, and even to music, are just so grossly incompetent to generations past, that they don't want to exert the level of effort that it takes to actually make quality props. We've become pampered with CGI doing all the work that we've forgotten what it takes to have actual skill and work go into something.

I’ve noticed this in a lot of productions, and not just with costume, but with sets as well. Nothing rips you out of a show, especially a fantasy/medieval genre, than always perfectly kept/washed outfits that haven’t a speck of dirt or a wrinkle on them despite adventuring over thousands of miles.
Netflix Witcher series comes to mind as an egregious offender. The infamous season 1 nutsack armor was bad, but upon a recent rewatch, the castle set designs, especially on Cintra, look like high school drama levels of setwork.
It’s like they think having their clothes be tattered or dirty is somehow an indication of a drop in production quality. It’s very weird and can pull you out of a show entirely. And before anyone freaks out, I’m not saying armour has to be historically accurate or anything like that, so long as it looks like the characters actually used it more than once.

      Anonymous

Historically accurate armor would be very shiny and new looking. They had to constantly polish and oil it or it would rust and weaken.

1 billion USD and it looks so cheap? Because it was a vehicle set up to embezzle funds out of Amazon without paying taxes on it and to then launder that money into building Bezos' doomsday bunker. Remember its filmed in New Zealand which is where a lot of billionaires are building their bunkers, and subcontractors with NDA's are whispering the billionaires are spending whatever it takes to have their bunkers finished by winter of 2024.

      >Rings of Power has not managed to come close to the battle of Helm's Deep Kino
Literally and unironically season 2, siege of Eregion is the closest thing they will have to that kind of battle. From all the images that's been leaked it looks like they went big, very big for a TV show. They did 40 days of continuous night shoots too and many hundreds of extras involved.

      >Morff is traumatized and thus can't handle stage combat/things moving at her
She's just a v.girlygirl and so had to work a bit to stop her flinching, no big deal. She had had to learn to ride a horse, climb, swim, etc too.

You said the same shit about the vulcano explosion in s1 and it sucked.
And besides it doesnt even matter, even IF they have a very good scene or two in there, it's just not worth chewing through 40 minutes of DEI activists wet dream bullshit.
As it is it's like every other show out there, it's all about the message message message, men bad, racism bad, girlboss yas queen slay, etc. and story or interesting characters are a complete afterthought.

        Anonymous

        >Eregion
That remains to be seen. So far the quality has been subpar if compared to LOTR. From costumes to narrative to soundtrack. It's not just about "le action" although competent choreography always will be better than slowmo CGI or actors only having bladeless hilts to wave around.

It's also about the narrative. Helm's Deep tells a story. The very decision to hole up there is a contested one. Will they hold out or will help arrive in time? The gradual retreat behind the walls and the suspense of killing the torchbearers before the wall is blown up. King Theoden rallying his men for a futile last stand. The stakes were there and the story followed a consistent direction.

Look at the Southland Battle in S1 ROP for comparison. We have a lot of similar elements:
        >vulnerable villagers leave village for watchtower
        >gradual defeat despite victories
        >help is on their way from Numenor
        >girl gives le epic speech

Yet the story does not make sense. The villagers left the village for one reason: Orcs were digging tunnels under their village and their position was untenable should they attack. Yet when they sacrifice the elven watchtower in their feint they retreat not into an inner ring like Helms Deep. They instead retreat into the village where the local bar is now their bastion. They even give the speech about it. In the hope that the ADHD crowd has forgotten about those tunnels from a few episodes ago. Just like the orcs did.
