Isekai is just an excuse to recycle the same fantasy RPG tropes that every other anime is using and have a main character who acts like a typical 20s-30s Japanese person so that they're relatable. It's the capeshit of anime. There is no creativity left to explore in the genre, it's a safe marketing gimmick.
Overlord fort a hot second looked like it might be an interesting spin on the genre but it's actually one of the worst isekai of all when you realize it's not going to be like a Breaking Bad or Death Note style villain protagonist story. There is no L or Hank in the story. It's an evil campaign show about an egdy boi finding more and more ways to abuse the NPCs. It's just a shallow power fantasy except it's about being a villain instead of a hero, and if the main character ever gets his comeuppance it will be lazily ham-fisted in at the last second with no foreshadowing, or they will make some really pathetic attempt to justify him and his actions.
Light Novels were a fricking mistake, specially Shosetsuka ni Naro.
