Because it was fun. Simple as.
We all know it's stupid, barely makes sense, and is ultimately unnecessary. But sometimes, that just doesn't matter.
You're free to still not like it, I'm jsut explaining why others do.

      >samegayging your own post hours later because no one agrees
also something can be fun without being moronic
letting shitty stories be made because they're "le fun just turn your brain off" is exactly why Spider-Man hasn't been good in years outside of the spin-offs and one-off stories

It was moronic and had an awful effect on not only the character in universe, but the mythos of the character afterward. Now Superior just HAS to happen in every adaptation since.

I hope it stays that way, I really do. But people crow for it to happen in the Miles movies, in the Insomniac games, speculate if it will happen in Ultimate. The idea has already been rehashed again in ASM because Slott has no ideas at all.

Because it's the only part of Slott's 10-year run that even FEELS like it has any consequences or happenings, even if it gets entirely undone in the end. Everything else he does is "illusion of change" bullshit.
It also helps that Christos Gage writes a small part of it IIRC, which somewhat reduces the effect of Scott's usual empty storytelling

It was a shakeup that people liked but it came at the sacrifice of Peter and his supporting cast. Everyone was dumbed down and Otto outsmarted everyone with ease. Slott was just wanking him off the entire time. Gage gave him some humility and every other writer made fun of him. You could really tell how the other writers felt about Slott in how they treated Spock.

This was people wondering why they chose to shit on Miguel for their dogshit plotline when SpOck would have worked just as well if not better
      >Put Spock in the Insomniac games!
This seems like less of a demand and more of a prediction of what will happen. They dove straight into the plotline of Otto's body failing him

It could still be SpOck for all we know, they kinda have the same personality
While i do think SpOck would work in Spider-verse, it'd be weird for him to also be a Peter Parker. Notice how all main characters don't share the same name despite being variations of Spidey. There's a shitton of Peters, but only one of them gets the spotlight in both movies

          >Notice how all main characters don't share the same name despite being variations of Spidey
That's part of why the canon event stuff was so shit. They want to say that every Spider-Man story goes the same way to make Miles look special (even though the opposite is true) but they also want a bunch of wildly different Spider-Adjacents for a diverse cast and these two ideas just do not work together

For the record I don't like this book at all.
It just happens to be the only of Slott's stories I actually remember in some capacity. Ten years of stories and they barely left an impression on me.
And honestly this book plays to Slott's "strengths" more than Spider-Man proper. As in, I'd rather have Octavius written an obnoxious cringeworthy butthole with gimmicky toyetic gadgets and barely and meaningful interactions with Peter's supporting cast rather than have a book like that centered around Peter (which was the rest of Slott's run.)

  9. 1 week ago

It was arguable the point where the 616 Spider-Man books were ruined and never recovered. Slotto was already writing misery porn Pete before this but this arc hammered it down as the status quo and no writer since has deviated from the "Peter is a sad sack loser who always loses and even when he wins he ends up worse than before" characterization

I don't. I like the idea of a supervillain trying to be a superhero in their own strange and vicious way and try to become better people inspite of themselves, but considering that everyone needed to become super moronic before, during, and after the event, I don't think it was worth it. And "The Die Is Cast" is a stupid catch phrase.

Otto wasn't trying to be a hero until Peter blasted him with core memories until Otto felt as close as he was capable of Parker guilt. Even then he still did most of it out of ego and trying to prove himself superior

The one criticism I never got was saying it was a Kraven's Last Hunt rehash. Besides an enemy trying to be Spider-Man and wanting to be a Superior Spider-Man they have nothing in common. Kraven just threw on a costume and had didn't truly understand Spider-Man. Otto literally had the deepest understanding a nemesis can by literally getting flooded with Peter's memories and having a fundamental understanding of what made him who he is. That alone is enough of a distinction.

    >people liked Superior
The historical revisionism on Cinemaphile is so fricking hilarious. Anyone who was actually there remembers the actual response: lusting over the dwarf waifu and cursing Slott. The only page that got ANY positive reception was the "I never carried a man-purse", and perhaps the panel where Ock realizes Spider-Man has been holding back for years pleased the powerlevelgays. Otherwise, only Superior Foes was liked, and it had absolutely nothing to do with Superior Spider-Man itself.

This was not all that long ago, historically, and already people are completely changing the narrative. Of course nobody learns anything if nobody remembers anything. You damn kids keep fricking up the lawn, whether you're actually children or you're Alzheimer's boomers.

She deserved so much better, she honestly did. Even aside from the 'haha shortstack I want Peter to rail her fat ass over Otto's grave', she was a ride or die support for him after he came back when no one else was there for him, and she got the absolute cold shoulder shaft in return. She was just a joy of a character from beginning to end.
