Shrek is a boring cliche movie in the worst ways that gets respect from npcs because it's "subversive" in that there is lots of farts, burps, queefs, and other such thing idiots find funny and edgy

homie it's a kids movie from the early 2000s

It's subversive because at the time it came out kids movies were just standard disney movies

I'm in my 30's, I was a kid when Shrek came out, I didn't like it then and I don't like it now.

It's subversive because at the time it came out kids movies were just standard disney movies

Shrek is no more unique than a standard Disney movie story wise, it's just that it has farts and dares to say OOOH AREN'T FAIRY TALE CLICHES STUPID *fart* *belch* *armpit scratch* *butt itch* EVEN THOUGH WE'RE DOING FAIRY TALE CLICHES ANYWAY?

No, I'll watch fricking Swan Princess or some other generic fairy tale shit before Shrek, at least you get a cool demon in that movie

Ogres are irrational creatures that use emotion instead of reason to rationalize problems. Just like women.

It's not necessarily a bad trope, and this movie does it better than a lot of others. Shrek is antisocial by nature and everything Fiona says that he thinks is about him he believes to be true about himself. It's not very subtle but it makes sense.

It works if you understand the metaphor. It's not that Fiona's words were reasonably misconstrued, it's that Shrek was already on guard because he didn't believe he could be love.d

He only roared at the villagers in the opening, not putting a finger on them. Also, the eyeballs came from slugs.

Nobody cares to admit it, but 1 looks better than 2. It's more enjoyable to look at, that's for sure.
