Why does nu-SpongeBob love to reference and use characters from the pre-movie seasons?

Why does nu-SpongeBob love to reference and use characters from the pre-movie seasons? It makes it look incredibly out of ideas and tries way too hard to Cash in on nostalgia from older fans.

Hate him all you want but at least Paul Tibbitt tried to tell newer and more compeling stories compared to these new hack showrunners.

When you have a well of nostalgia you drill baby drill (though they shouldn't reference Nosferatu)

I already felt like the movie was "off." It feels wrong to me. I know people love it but as soon as I saw the trailer I thought "this doesn't feel right."

So every moron on social media sites can point at it and scream about it being a thing they remember.

Oh I don’t know I’m sure your irritation is actually high intelligence criticism. Like, when you see something and you’re a little bothered for any reason? It’s gotta be because you’re so smart and collected, that you’ve actually found a serious error in the world that needs fixing for the better of everyone? Because there’s no way ‘why have they been using old characters lately’ is the same as ‘why are Sonic’s arms blue now’, it couldn’t possibly be that this is just an unimportant feature of a cartoon, that isn’t too weird or offensive, that you’ve just decided its a serious critical academic error just because you were in some mood when you saw it. It’s gotta be that you know the truth and seeing the old woman from that old episode again is just SICK and if the writers were smarter they wouldn’t do it because it’s just so wrong

        >oh it must be a design flaw, you should never do that, what are these people thinking? So unprofessional, is this what they do now? What happened? Whoever made this has some learning to do
b***h half the time you’re just hungry.

Well yeah I notice more than half the posts on this board are just people with bad moods deciding that its because the cartoons they watch must be broken

    >piss cry and whine about everything after the movie being shit
    >referencing 20 year old material that they most likely don't air anymore is "out of ideas"
Make up your mind or grow up. Or maybe you want some more shit like camp coral.

I'm not watching so maybe they do this every episode or some shit but it makes sense for a long running show to bring back older stuff from time to time, it would be weird if they didn't

It took years for spongebob to cater to nostalgia pandering. The best explanation is that people that grew up with the earlier seasons are now working on the show

This. There was a thread on here a few years back about a zoomer who was hired as a storyboard artist for the show straight out of high school.

Reminder that Zach was apart of these nu-spongebob overly exgeratted episodes. I mean he only story boarded one shot but still. In fact OP a lot of the new season episodes are basically just picking up characters that were only for one episode and then reusing them in such a weird fashion. I think the beauty of spongebob (before all the mermaid man meme shit) was that everything was truly random in terms of each episode.

Can they bring back the cast's old personalities while they're at it?

They only seem to revert back to their original personalities in the movies.

Hillenburg wanted to end the show after the movie. he understood his show had its time and wanted to end it on a good note. now we have shit like Kamp Koral and the Patrick star show.

He did but then he changed his mind. Hillenburg approved of the later seasons

Apparently he think the post-sequel episodes were pretty funny. A lot of people don't know he approved stuff like Ink Lemonade.
