Honesty I don’t give a shit if a character is black. I like a lot of black actors, what I have a problem with is the obsession with and consequences of shoehorning a black person into a role simply because they want to cast more black people when there is absolutely no way their population can produce that many good actors that quickly. They are being overrepresented 3x-4x their population but there is just no way in hell they are 4 times more likely to be a good actor than a white or asian or latino person. They would produce good actors at the same rate as anyone else. This is happening with so many roles now that standards have been seriously lowered in service of casting as many black people as possible. As a result, when I see a new black actor I’m usually bracing for them to suck, and they usually do. For example, I suspected Halle Bailey would be a bad Ariel. And I was right. Halle Bailey cannot act. She has the same facial expression the entire movie. She shouldn’t have been cast. Also, when a character is race swapped it’s pretty much a certainty that the studio worked backwards from the idea of race swapping instead of who might be best for the role. The studios are the ones obsessed with race. I just want to see good actors in good movies. And don’t tell me there isn’t some legacy black actors who were held to normal standards and clawed their way up who are feeling pretty annoyed with this situation as well. They see non-actors being cast in roles and handed shit they would have never gotten. It’s offensive to anyone who works hard and wants a merit based society to just hand people things based on superficial criteria.
Because whites are under attack. Demographically, culturally, physically. No one would have cared about a black mermaid in 1989 or whatever, but now they do because it's another front in the war.
