Why does the big 2 hire Morrison, fire Morrison, reboot?

Why does the big 2 hire Morrison, fire Morrison, reboot / retcon Morrison and then spend decades doing shitty hacky ripoffs of Morrison's ideas?

We've seen it with X-Men, Batman, JLA, etc. now.

Seems most egregious with him, Kirby and Moore.

Because he doens't actually sell as much as they think he will. His last big major success was Batman and son(and really just Damian) , not even really RIP because that whole mess was wracked in bloated cross overs . He was a critical darling for Animal Man, Doom Patrol, and The Invisibles but he's not entirely mainstream material.
He also is vague and cryptic about playing ball with other creators. For a while in the 90's Mark Millar's role was being Morrison's Mouth of Sauron because he didn't want to go to meetings.

There's plenty of other creators that get bounced around you wouldn't notice because they just aren't as prominent. the lifespan for a writer or an artist in this industry is short as frick. Pick up any C-list Marvel or DC book from the past and check out how long that writer actually stuck around in comics.

It's an industry that grinds down ideas and those three men are the largest natural source.

Forgot Finger for Batman and Ditko for Spidey. Ditko creating essentially 95% of what every Spider-Man comic is to this day and Marvel mining it since 1966 is particularly hilarious.

Romita was just as influential. Every adaptation draws just as if not more from Romita.

I personally enjoy Romita more than Ditko but the facts are everything recognizable about Spidey outside of MJ, Venom, Hobgoblin and Kingpin was Ditko and only Ditko.

his ideas are about you know doing something, and sometimes its too much of a thing and the chars would need to evolve and we cant have that.

Morrison wasn't fired from any of those projects. He quit New X-Men because he was mad Jemas wouldn't greenlight Marvel Boy 2, and his Batman and JLA runs came to a definite conclusion and there was never a period of time when they were trying to move away from what he did. On X-Men, Quesada let Morrison do whatever he wanted because he was a big name, and immediately backpedaled on what he disagreed with as soon as he was gone. Eventually Quesada stepped down and naturally other EiCs would have different opinions.

      >his Batman and JLA runs came to a definite conclusion and there was never a period of time when they were trying to move away from what he did

Bro are you out of your mind? The reboot absolutely raped the final chapter of his Batman run because DC was moving away from it before he could even finish. He comments on it directly IN the run multiple times.

The toys were going back into the box. His Action Comics run was about the never-ending cyclical nature of DC Comics as a positive thing, Batman's ending was commentary on the never-ending cyclical nature as a negative.

The Batman ending was forced to be about that. Morrison wanted Dickbats and Damian as the status quo and had 5 years of stories he wanted to write.

That was never going to happen. Batman is Bruce Wayne, period. Batman Inc was one of DC's best selling titles before the New 52, but Snyder and Capullo's Batman blew away Batman Inc Vol 2 every month. That's what the masses wanted to see.

Batman Inc vol 2 was gutted and in no way what people reading vol 1 wanted from it.

Sales of volume 1 settled around 60,000-50,000. Sales of volume 2 also settled on those numbers. It didn't lose any readers, that was simply the ceiling on the book, that's the Morrison audience. Pretty good, but not great. Snyder and Capullo were delivering twice that. Morrison was one of the kings of the pre-Flashpoint DC-is-dying era alongside Johns, but he couldn't compare with a re-invigorated line-up.

No, Snyder's sales reflected where core Batman orders had been raised by Morrison's run. That Morrison remained competitive with his own BUILT numbers on a side series is a testament to his mastery.

Snyder and Capullo's Bat-run never slipped before 100,000 ever. Like I said, both volumes of Inc slipped below 60,000. His Batman and Robin run ended at 80,000. But go back to Batman RIP? 100,000. That's the Batman people want. Dickbats had some good stories, but saleswise, it was a dud, and that's why DC got rid of it. If Dickbats had blown away Brucebats in the sales they would have kept going.

It doesn't really matter what anyone says, the majority of comics fans want "same old thing, but slightly different," huh?

Because he has great ideas but editors are fricking babies who don't want to move on from their safe status quo. But eventually need to go back and recycle parts of his work because they realized they have jack shit else to tell.

Sadder how DC keeps putting his work on tv / movies without hiring him even though he is trying and struggling to break into tv / movies. He should have just kept his mouth shut and he could be in the Johns / Snyder / King good boy group.
