Why would anyone try to shut them down?

Everyone has always said that if someone else were to take it up, that'd be great. they just didn't want their work shared like that.

But since Guyver is so old and unfinished (6 years since last chapter), no one in their right mind wanted to do it.

More than anything I'm sad that people haven't scanned beyond volume 3 of Zeorymer Omega since it was apparently finished at 6 volumes in Japan. Guyver's raw are a homosexual subject due to those morons at the "Advocacy" who can go blow chunks as much as they want, co-miserating in their space. I'm still miffed they killed that Guyver re-scanner who rescanned and retranslated volumes 1,2,4 and 8 I believe. HobbyJapanScans or an associate of them?

        [...]
Not only that, in the new chapters he gets even cooler with his new trick. It even works close to Alex's Guyver armour in Prototype

Wish we could have a Guyver game already.

They never did anything like that. You morons really like to make shit up when someone doesn't give you want you want for free.

The ONLY thing they have done is hold their versions of volumes 30-32. You buttholes also seem to forget they translated volumes 8-29 for free too.

Now I like to think they held off the volumes just to piss you buttholes off.

This may be dumb of me to hope, but I wonder if Takaya might be willing to hand Guyver over to another artist and just do story guidance if he doesn't want to work on it anymore. Like, people thought Berserk was screwed after Miura died but his friend and his apprentices took it over, so I wonder if Takaya has anyone who could do that with Guyver. It has some of the sickest biomechanical designs I've seen, it'd be a shame if it just fell into obscurity.

Aptom is probably my favourite character in the manga. His initial motivation added an interesting layer to the main character and Cronos conflict. Seeing him grieve Hayami and get his Omega Blast form is like watching a tertiary Rider getting his final form. He's a Lost Number so he already have mind control immunity, which only was broken cause shenanigans. Even then his Omega Blast form has the super freezing ability and a lot of other stuff that actually rivals Guyvers' arsenal thanks to absorbing a shit ton of hyper zoanoids dyring the chinaman zoalord arc.

Why does Agito go out of his way to antagonize Sho when Sho would probably be along for the ride If he let him, given their goals align very closely?

      Anonymous

These newest chapters translated seems like they have settled their differences for now. From what I remember, Agito just considers Sho a threat if Sho doesn't bow to him and accept him as the boss, and Sho just doesn't trust him since Agito doesn't give a shit about casualties or collateral damage. Agito also doesn't just want to destroy Cronos, he wants to replace them, which is not something Sho can get down with.

Toku fan here who's going to start Guyver soon. I'm obviously gonna start with the manga but what's the general consensus on the OVA and 2005 anime? The 1989 OVA at least has a banger opening, that's about my knowledge of Guyver besides the David Hayter film.

      Anonymous

The OVA has the best background music ever put into an anime. The English dub is actually pretty fricking good, especially Sho's screams. It also diverges from the manga a good bit because of it's short length.

The 2005 version is much toned down on the gore and violence, music isn't as good, but it does continue on all the way to the Gigantic reveal.

There is also a single movie OVA that came first (Out of Control) that is not as good as either of the other two, and has an original story unrelated to the manga, but has one of the first tentacle rape scenes I know of.

Only up to Faiz or so. Guyver's basically just Showa Rider with 80s ultraviolence, early Heisei is big on the Ishinomori style angst but it's still a toy commercial with PG-13 violence. Agito has an antagonist turned ally multi-Rider set-up and harks back to ancient precursor myths, Faiz has an evil corporation pulling the strings to rule the world, Ryuki has cannibal monsters and Hannibal Lecter as an evil Rider. Kuuga's really weird, it's an X Files style police procedural where every episode the MOTW kills over a hundred people, until the most positive and sincere Showa style protagonist kicks it so hard it blows up an entire city. Lots of cool tweaks on the formula that don't entirely work because the show's shot like a daytime soap opera. Kabuto is probably the closest to Guyver aesthetically but tonally it's all over the place. Everything else is too light to pass for Guyver.

I like how instead of being the super special chosen one, Sho is really more of a handicap to the Guyver itself. He's still nowhere near as tough or skilled as Agito, it's his good nature and his friends who have kept him alive this long. I like that he has finally grown a spine and started using tactics though, to make up for his lacking fighting ability.

The Guyver OVA was the first anime I ever watched that wasn't something on Toonami. I caught bits and pieces of it on some late night channel after I was supposed to have gone to bed. Sho's nightmare about being eaten alive by the armor after he fought Lisker haunted me for a while.

That anime desensitized a lot of little anons here

Who here has seen the toku totally-not-Guyver, "Guyferd"?

Figma #600 Guyver 1 ver 2.0 was just shown at a toy fare.

Don't know if that actually means something for the manga, but it already has a figma number so at least we can guess when it is coming out.

frick yeah, i'll get another guyver 1 figma. maybe one day they'll make a lisker or aptom figure. actually i think i just want some zoanoids to go with my other guyver figs.

Is there a figure for Guyver 0?

hmmmm, I don't think so. the only guyver 0 related merch i've ever come across is the prime 1 statue......I wish i had room for that and got on it when it was available. who doesn't want a guyver wrecking dinosaurs.

Other than the Prime 1 statue, there was an old 1/6 kit/figure from Max Factory.

It sometimes seems like there is more, because there has been a few custom made items through modeling and 3-d printing, but those are usually small runs from an independent designer. (like the one pictured is a custom sculpted bust)

I just want an affordable Guyver figure. Even when they first came out, the Figmas were like $100 and they've only gone up in the years since.

Considering the figures are probably the only profitable part of the whole franchise, they're probably always going to be premium collector's items

Now that is something Guyver fans and Garo fans can agree on.

And the 1/6 Anniversary figure was shown... Yet again. And still with no release date.

If You search twitter with the following tag, you can find more pictures of both figures:

Man, I'm rewatching the 2005 series and it's a lot better than I remembered. The only thing holding it back really is the music not being anywhere near as good as the 80s version. If they had brought back Reijiro Koroku and continued the story this would be a god-tier anime.

It certainly gets a bad rep due to be compared to the 1989 OAV and ADV's marketing at the time. But if you're a fan of the manga and lore, it certainly spruces up the early material.

Some of the battles are really poorly done in the 2005 version sadly. But Guyver 2 getting more screentime was really great.

I recall seeing somewhere that Takaya once said his biggest regret with the series is that he killed off Lisker too quickly. If the 2005 anime did anything particularly good, it was letting him stick around for a while.

Might explain why he brought Valkyria in

That and it would have been a waste to just have her in the one shot OVA.

I imagine a guyver zoalord would have been the final arc for the entire series. iirc that was Arkenfel's whole goal was to get his hands on a Biobooster unit G

                >Archenfel gets a guyver unit
                >Fricks off from Earth leaving them to do what they want so he can find the Creators
                >Either they all died a million years ago and Archy is all alone in space
                >Or they have advanced so far beyond him, his new power is like a drop of water in the ocean

Guyver Zoanoid was a surprisingly impressive design. Granted it's Guyver-II crammed into a slightly modified Guyver-III shaped box, but it still looked fantastic.

Black and red color scheme, the spikes along the sides of the head, the "nose" design

I meant to say II, but I guess

Visually yes, but functionally he was Guyver-II in all but name.

                already answered that.

he didn't have anything to do with valcuria either and he just put her in no issue

Uh, he designed her armor for the Out of Control OAV. He may not have made the OAV itself, but the designs were still his.

                Anonymous

Oh and he didn't put Valcuria in the manga. He took the same armor design and put it on a new character with a similar name.

                Anonymous

You're just being pedantic now. Valkyria is for all intents and purposes the same character as Valcuria, being a female Lisker with a defective Guyver

It's payback for all the times Japan exports the most garbage entry of a franchise to the West, then keeps all the good parts to itself

It was though, my first viewing of it was a Japanese subtitled copy. Pretty sure they even changed the sound effects for the Japanese version too.

Is there any demand for Guyver still left in Japan? I wonder if declining readership was part of the reason Takaya dropped it. Probably just nostalgiaboomers like us left.

Sad to see it happen before it could be finished

I didn't know there was a version of the OP by Sho's VA. He's nowhere near Shinichi fricking Ishihara's level, but it's always a good time when a VA sings a theme song.

even though he's more known as the VA for trunks, I know Takeshi Kusao more as Ky Kiske from Guilty Gear, so this makes me laugh cause I'm just seeing Ky singing the Guyver OP
