Ahead Of the Curve I guess
Also, some guy is translating the remaining chapters.
Is he? And they're not trying to shut him down?
So far no, he's uploading on mangadex.
Yes it is.
https://mangadex.org/title/17b910e5-7fd1-4aef-8904-c0bd3820ae04/guyver
Oh dang they just uploaded recently. Which one of you guys is it?
well, at least we finally see the translated bios at the end of ch 188 like of Regalias who is one of the first Zoanoid who is designed to be devoted to Archanfel. As well as Guyver-Aption
Osmiosbighter is a goddamn hero
The quality of this translation is fricking bad.
It's better than nothing.
lol what are those losers going to do "advocate" that he gets shut down?
they advocate so good that the entire Guyver franchise literally fricking died
Why would anyone try to shut them down?
Everyone has always said that if someone else were to take it up, that'd be great. they just didn't want their work shared like that.
But since Guyver is so old and unfinished (6 years since last chapter), no one in their right mind wanted to do it.
They never did anything like that. You morons really like to make shit up when someone doesn't give you want you want for free.
The ONLY thing they have done is hold their versions of volumes 30-32. You buttholes also seem to forget they translated volumes 8-29 for free too.
Now I like to think they held off the volumes just to piss you buttholes off.
why you defending known horders
is this true?
Someone claims this every couple of years but we'll see if they stick with it.
Uoooo
>Guy-ver
>has big breasts
>no Meat Loaf as the Guyver
A big part of Guyver and early Heisei is playing the whole "being turned into an inhuman cyborg who beats other inhuman monsters to death" straight and highlighting how unpleasant it would be.
isnt the manga still ongoing?
yeah there's been like, what, four chapters in the past ten years?
makes me actually wonder what Yoshiki Takaya does for his bread and butter. does he just live off his zeorymer and guyver royalties, does he do oneshots for 'zines over there in japan? I'm genuinely curious.
He went back to being a dentist.
so the manga was just an excursion? Or it stopped being a steady source of meny
Interesting to think about. Did he ever have a definitive ending in mind?
I guess that makes Guyver possibly the first dentist-core manga
Damn that super sucks if it's true. This would be the second time i've heard someone in anime or manga just going over to being a dentist. didn't the Dub VA for Domon also become a dentist? that's weird. Anyway i'll huff that hopium that with all these retro reboots like spriggan and Bastard, that someone is eyeing guyver again.
>hopium
Go back to twitter.
Frick off homosexual. Discuss Guyver or have a nice day.
Frick off.
>didn't the Dub VA for Domon also become a dentist?
Oral surgeon, not quite the same thing. Dentists don't do stuff like root canals.
that depends on the country.
They all do in Italy, for example, because ALL dentist are oral surgeons.
This may be dumb of me to hope, but I wonder if Takaya might be willing to hand Guyver over to another artist and just do story guidance if he doesn't want to work on it anymore. Like, people thought Berserk was screwed after Miura died but his friend and his apprentices took it over, so I wonder if Takaya has anyone who could do that with Guyver. It has some of the sickest biomechanical designs I've seen, it'd be a shame if it just fell into obscurity.
Guyver has always been obscure even in Japan. If there were any plans to continue it surely would of happened by now. The sun has set on Guyver, it's dead Jim.
I'd at least like a little bit of an ending yo
More than anything I'm sad that people haven't scanned beyond volume 3 of Zeorymer Omega since it was apparently finished at 6 volumes in Japan. Guyver's raw are a homosexual subject due to those morons at the "Advocacy" who can go blow chunks as much as they want, co-miserating in their space. I'm still miffed they killed that Guyver re-scanner who rescanned and retranslated volumes 1,2,4 and 8 I believe. HobbyJapanScans or an associate of them?
Not only that, in the new chapters he gets even cooler with his new trick. It even works close to Alex's Guyver armour in Prototype
Wish we could have a Guyver game already.
capcom or platinum only ones that could do it justice. i needs it too
Skyrim and Morrowind have decent armour mods. There's the odd mugen character too.
The game it deserved.
A mid-90s Resi clone with beat-'em-up sections that retained tank controls and preset camera angles a-la Perfect Weapon on the PlayStation.
I wonder if there's something where either the guy signed off on a game so the rights were tied up and never exercised, like maybe they got tied up with the Hamill movie, or maybe he had some terminal butthurt about video games
because it's really crazy that there's nothing for Guyver games
Just like Devilman for the PS1 with a "Out of Control" movie campaign with Yu Mizushima as the Movie Guyver I love it.
My homie.
I was under the impression that he went back so his parents' practice doesn't go out of business or some shit.
Early Heisei KR was basically Showa KR but edgier so that's probably why.
I wish Guyver got more attention. The hiatus hasn't helped it any though.
Aptom is probably my favourite character in the manga. His initial motivation added an interesting layer to the main character and Cronos conflict. Seeing him grieve Hayami and get his Omega Blast form is like watching a tertiary Rider getting his final form. His super form after absorbing the last Hyper 5's legs is one of my favourite designs from the manga too too.
Yeah, Aptom is by far my favorite. But I wish they would give him some more up-to-date meals so he could properly fight Zoalords.
He's a Lost Number so he already have mind control immunity, which only was broken cause shenanigans. Even then his Omega Blast form has the super freezing ability and a lot of other stuff that actually rivals Guyvers' arsenal thanks to absorbing a shit ton of hyper zoanoids dyring the chinaman zoalord arc.
Has someone collected all the bios and compiled them?
Question: do you guys think there would be any interest in a Guyver tabletop RPG? Specifically, one where the players are all Zoanoids, either working for or trying to escape the Chronos equivalent.
cthulutech had one character class where you were basically a guyver. shame the system was overly clunky.
seems like you could get a Guyver system out of old World of Darkness, like Freak Legions, maybe Demon Hunter X for their superscience, some other Technocracy splatbooks, stuff like that
https://www.mojobob.com/roleplay/monstrousmanual/b/bionoid.html
Spelljammer...
Hope we get to (Gigantic) Dark Exceed chapter soon
Why does Agito go out of his way to antagonize Sho when Sho would probably be along for the ride If he let him, given their goals align very closely?
These newest chapters translated seems like they have settled their differences for now. From what I remember, Agito just considers Sho a threat if Sho doesn't bow to him and accept him as the boss, and Sho just doesn't trust him since Agito doesn't give a shit about casualties or collateral damage. Agito also doesn't just want to destroy Cronos, he wants to replace them, which is not something Sho can get down with.
Toku fan here who's going to start Guyver soon. I'm obviously gonna start with the manga but what's the general consensus on the OVA and 2005 anime? The 1989 OVA at least has a banger opening, that's about my knowledge of Guyver besides the David Hayter film.
The OVA has the best background music ever put into an anime. The English dub is actually pretty fricking good, especially Sho's screams. It also diverges from the manga a good bit because of it's short length.
The 2005 version is much toned down on the gore and violence, music isn't as good, but it does continue on all the way to the Gigantic reveal.
There is also a single movie OVA that came first (Out of Control) that is not as good as either of the other two, and has an original story unrelated to the manga, but has one of the first tentacle rape scenes I know of.
>The English dub is actually pretty fricking good
This is never true, stop saying this.
As of 2005 this has been increasingly true, step out of the time chamber
only like 5% of dubs are good, don't kid yourself
Wait, is early heisei KR actually like Guyver?
Should I get into early heisei KR?
Original Guyver OVA dub is fine, especially compared to other shit that was out around the same time.
Only up to Faiz or so. Guyver's basically just Showa Rider with 80s ultraviolence, early Heisei is big on the Ishinomori style angst but it's still a toy commercial with PG-13 violence. Agito has an antagonist turned ally multi-Rider set-up and harks back to ancient precursor myths, Faiz has an evil corporation pulling the strings to rule the world, Ryuki has cannibal monsters and Hannibal Lecter as an evil Rider. Kuuga's really weird, it's an X Files style police procedural where every episode the MOTW kills over a hundred people, until the most positive and sincere Showa style protagonist kicks it so hard it blows up an entire city. Lots of cool tweaks on the formula that don't entirely work because the show's shot like a daytime soap opera. Kabuto is probably the closest to Guyver aesthetically but tonally it's all over the place. Everything else is too light to pass for Guyver.
>the show's shot like a daytime soap opera.
My biggest gripe with Heisei/Reiwa Rider in general. They look fricking awful. Black Sun can't come soon enough.
stop being a racist
Sho's english VA in the OVA impresses with his throat breaking screams.
I really fricking hope the manga gets wrapped up someday.
about a decade ago i picked up an old gigantic dark garage kit for cheap on a trip to NYC
never actually built it tho
it might actually be worth something now
i think it was in the same series as pic related
if anybody cares i'll try to find it and take a pic
For the love of our Lord do any of you have a link to the OVA's with english dubs? I grew up watching the first 3 from Sho first getting the Guyver to being fricked up by Enzyme. I know there are more OVA's english dubbed and I wan t to go on a binge. Plese help.
Last I checked they tend to pop up on yt due to a lack of a license
Because "early heisei Kamen Rider" isn't unique.
I love how consistent the art style stays, even after like 30 years. It's very charming and clear
Is he going to end up like Miura?
Miura didn't quit, he just died.
you think with the chainsaw man anime coming out, it might generate a bit of overlapping interest in things similar to it? (monster folk fighting other monster folk and high levels of gore)
Chainsaw Man's about as close to Guyver as it is to Parasyte. I can see your logic but kiddies don't give a shit about old shit, don't expect anything.
Somebody track down Takaya and make him finish this damn thing0
Because the author was eleven when Kamen Rider first aired, so he probably consumed a fair share of the series as as a kid.
Is it worth reading even if it may never have an ending?
Is there a point where I should stop if want somewhat of a closure on the overall story?
just read it moron
Stop asking us to wipe your ass.
You're in a thread full of fans of the series. What do you honestly think anyone here is going to say?
Yes, if you like tokusatsu or any kind of science fiction or action, this is a great read regardless of an "ending" or not. The anime and OVA both stop at a certain point, so maybe watch one of those first.
Guyot is cool
Never realized Steve Blum was in this, this was a really early role
His first, I think?
I like how instead of being the super special chosen one, Sho is really more of a handicap to the Guyver itself. He's still nowhere near as tough or skilled as Agito, it's his good nature and his friends who have kept him alive this long. I like that he has finally grown a spine and started using tactics though, to make up for his lacking fighting ability.
>That unit's damaged, Crane! You have no idea what it'll do to you!
>It'll DO me, just fine!
Love this fricking movie, what a cult classic
Ngl, American Guyver and Dark Hero was my first ever taste of toku that isn't Power Rangers and it changed my life, wouldn't have it either way.
That Guyver on Guyver fight was great and even though they had a small budget the outfits were pretty good to look at.
>that whole final fight
>the kick so cool it’s still called the Guyver Kick
This movie rocks.
David Hayter was such a based choice compared to the first movie.
Guyver 2 Dark Hero is really an amazing miracle, Sakamoto and Snake
The dude still absolutely fricking loves that he was in it too.
iirc in the Original launch version of MGS he used the name Sean Barker for the credits cause he didn't wanna get in trouble with the VA Union cause he didn't know if it was a union job or not
I love to believe that he has the full suit on display somewhere in his house
given that he named his production company "Dark Hero" it's very possible
Probably not looking too good after all these years, though-
wow that prop rot. well we could spin it and say the suit is overloading.
Man that watermark and they didn't even go through the effort of breaking the spine.
Yeah that watermark is a tad tacky, but i can understand the desire not to destroy out of print hard to find books.
I have a character and environment production sketch book from the one-shot out of control OVA. would love to share it but i'm not gonna be taking it apart.
I can understand that, I just find it wild considering their reputation.
>their reputation
GA doesn't actually care about providing translations of the manga in high quality to the ten people who care. They just want to gatekeep and be known as the "Guyver people."
I still feel bad for the director of the first movie, he was genuinely a big fan of Guyver and wanted to faithfully adapt it but the higher ups said he had to appeal to the Ninja Turtles crowd will all the dumbass comedy and slapstick it had
I'm surprised Dark Hero turned out as good as it did
It’s the sane fricking director, dumbass
Screaming Mad Geirge and Steve Wang co-directed it, with Wang more focused on the suits and effects.
>It’s the sane fricking director, dumbass
And? It's still surprising the sequel turned out the way it did, usually sequels have the execs getting even more handsy with it
>usually sequels have the execs getting even more handsy with it
says who
The reverse happened, the original movie got meddled to shit and the second one as a result of a smaller budget managed to be allowed it's own devices
>uncut non-vhs version of the first movie basically doesn't exist
I thought the Arrow Blu restored the small amount of violence that version had?
frick those guyver advocacy homosexuals
Guyver advocacy gays should be lynched. Glad the final chapters are being released for us.
New scans up
Post them Fig Newton.
see
The Guyver OVA was the first anime I ever watched that wasn't something on Toonami. I caught bits and pieces of it on some late night channel after I was supposed to have gone to bed. Sho's nightmare about being eaten alive by the armor after he fought Lisker haunted me for a while.
That anime desensitized a lot of little anons here
Who here has seen the toku totally-not-Guyver, "Guyferd"?
Figma #600 Guyver 1 ver 2.0 was just shown at a toy fare.
Don't know if that actually means something for the manga, but it already has a figma number so at least we can guess when it is coming out.
frick yeah, i'll get another guyver 1 figma. maybe one day they'll make a lisker or aptom figure. actually i think i just want some zoanoids to go with my other guyver figs.
Is there a figure for Guyver 0?
hmmmm, I don't think so. the only guyver 0 related merch i've ever come across is the prime 1 statue......I wish i had room for that and got on it when it was available. who doesn't want a guyver wrecking dinosaurs.
Other than the Prime 1 statue, there was an old 1/6 kit/figure from Max Factory.
It sometimes seems like there is more, because there has been a few custom made items through modeling and 3-d printing, but those are usually small runs from an independent designer. (like the one pictured is a custom sculpted bust)
I just want an affordable Guyver figure. Even when they first came out, the Figmas were like $100 and they've only gone up in the years since.
Considering the figures are probably the only profitable part of the whole franchise, they're probably always going to be premium collector's items
Now that is something Guyver fans and Garo fans can agree on.
And the 1/6 Anniversary figure was shown... Yet again. And still with no release date.
If You search twitter with the following tag, you can find more pictures of both figures:
#強殖装甲ガイバー
9000 USD price tag.
Could probably buy the movie suit for that price
Man, I'm rewatching the 2005 series and it's a lot better than I remembered. The only thing holding it back really is the music not being anywhere near as good as the 80s version. If they had brought back Reijiro Koroku and continued the story this would be a god-tier anime.
It certainly gets a bad rep due to be compared to the 1989 OAV and ADV's marketing at the time. But if you're a fan of the manga and lore, it certainly spruces up the early material.
Some of the battles are really poorly done in the 2005 version sadly. But Guyver 2 getting more screentime was really great.
I recall seeing somewhere that Takaya once said his biggest regret with the series is that he killed off Lisker too quickly. If the 2005 anime did anything particularly good, it was letting him stick around for a while.
Might explain why he brought Valkyria in
That and it would have been a waste to just have her in the one shot OVA.
So when can we expect the Guyver Zoanoid to be canon?
I imagine a guyver zoalord would have been the final arc for the entire series. iirc that was Arkenfel's whole goal was to get his hands on a Biobooster unit G
>Archenfel gets a guyver unit
>Fricks off from Earth leaving them to do what they want so he can find the Creators
>Either they all died a million years ago and Archy is all alone in space
>Or they have advanced so far beyond him, his new power is like a drop of water in the ocean
Guyver Zoanoid was a surprisingly impressive design. Granted it's Guyver-II crammed into a slightly modified Guyver-III shaped box, but it still looked fantastic.
Looks like III to me
>"We'll probably never be able to get a third movie out of all this, so let's combine Guyvers II and III!
Is there any element from III at all?
Black and red color scheme, the spikes along the sides of the head, the "nose" design
I meant to say II, but I guess
already answered that.
Visually yes, but functionally he was Guyver-II in all but name.
Never... Takaya had nothing to do with that character at all.
he didn't have anything to do with valcuria either and he just put her in no issue
Uh, he designed her armor for the Out of Control OAV. He may not have made the OAV itself, but the designs were still his.
Oh and he didn't put Valcuria in the manga. He took the same armor design and put it on a new character with a similar name.
You're just being pedantic now. Valkyria is for all intents and purposes the same character as Valcuria, being a female Lisker with a defective Guyver
So it's pretty obvious that Apollon is Murakami, right?
Yes. And I wish people would just get a fricking clue and stop questioning it. The evidence speaks for itself.
This is the first time I've been excited for a manga release in years. Even now Guyver is still a great read.
Apparently, Guyver Dark Hero wasn’t released in Japan but the first one was. What the actual frick?!
It's payback for all the times Japan exports the most garbage entry of a franchise to the West, then keeps all the good parts to itself
It was though, my first viewing of it was a Japanese subtitled copy. Pretty sure they even changed the sound effects for the Japanese version too.
Is there any demand for Guyver still left in Japan? I wonder if declining readership was part of the reason Takaya dropped it. Probably just nostalgiaboomers like us left.
Sad to see it happen before it could be finished
I don’t think the 2000ish anime did very well
It was 2005. There were a ton of heavy hitters that year.
Is Agito going to be redeemed, or is he about to die?
We'll never know because the series is effectively cancelled.
I don't know, didn't FSS go on hiatus for like a decade before the author picked it back up?
That was because Nagano was working on Gothicmade.
I didn't know there was a version of the OP by Sho's VA. He's nowhere near Shinichi fricking Ishihara's level, but it's always a good time when a VA sings a theme song.
even though he's more known as the VA for trunks, I know Takeshi Kusao more as Ky Kiske from Guilty Gear, so this makes me laugh cause I'm just seeing Ky singing the Guyver OP
Where can I find the Zeorymer manga?
