It doesn't, it's just a really funny show.

love the show, but the uninspired network reality tv presentation always takes me a little out of it. it's too polished for the content. makes it feel staged.

Sometimes I wonder if it's others that don't get the show or if I've somehow missed the point. But at no point have I ever felt that Nathan For You being some candid camera show was essential to the experience.

To me it's it's a satire of reality tv and absurdist comedy, whether or not any of it is real doesn't make it any less funny. I've never watched an episode of this where the only thing I got out of it was "lol he's pranking them" the funny and enjoyable part of the show has always been its understated absurdity and humor, and just how perfect the editing and presentation is, there's no wink wink nudge, the show is presented exactly as a reality show would be.

      >makes it feel staged.
it is staged mostly. the real comedy comes from the parts that obviously aren't. everyone knows they're on a scripted television show and that nathan is doing a bit, but eventually he pushes some boundary or does something that breaks them

He uses scouting agents to gather the most desperate and hungry for fame people whose businesses are also failing. That and it’s LA.

I could never tell if this guy was an actor or a fricking idiot. He 'worked for the show' so should be a plant, but kept appearing in the plans as an unwilling participant.
I know it wasn't all fake, cos people who have been on it have spoken about the experience. Where did this guy lie?

I guess it depends on how sad/desperate the victim is. Some are in on it, while others get dragged around and played by this israelite and that can leave a bad taste.

I don't think Nathan will top this. The rehearsal was a wet fart and the curse didn't grab my attention

First ep of The Rehearsal rivals the very best episodes of NFY, tbh.

the beginning of the rehearsal was great, then they were screwed by covid. if he tries again i think it will work. still haven’t seen the curse.

Give The Curse another shot. I wasn’t into it at first - felt too bleak and uncomfortable - but it really comes into its own by the end. I started rewatching it right after to pick up on little details I missed

I’ve met Nathan irl, he seemed like a real nice guy - though it’s weird how he manages to be awkward but totally in control of any conversation

Lads. In trouble with a certain household plant. A small tree problem.
A banzai predicament, if you will.
