here is another example, unrelated in narrative premise but still not escapist since it challenges the viewer philosophically AND emotionally, regardless of the fact that you can never personally be in the place of the characters. You are in a sense, "escaping" into that world, but again, escape is the wrong term, since the film is transformative rather than simply an emotional refuge.

Consider the "Rural purge" of American television in the 70s, where feel-good shows set in the countryside, especially the south such as Beverly Hillbillies, Gomer Pyle and Lassie were unceremoniously ditched by the networks despite high ratings in favour of shows set in cities that focused on social issues like All in the Family and it's twelve million spinoffs. Shows that make you feel good are shows that are maintaining the system.
