The costuming is largely a symptom of current film and television wardrobe expectations for fantasy and even many or most historically-themed attempts. Look at how bad the armour and even weapons in Vikings look, for example. So many things are apparently in darker earth toned colours while brighter clothing existed, and leather is copiously used for clothing or even armour, when it would not have been nearly as common.

None of the armour used in Vikings was made for the show, it was reused from other shows. Costume designers have big warehouses full of costumes they swap with other costume designers from other shows/movies. They are still credited as the costume designer though even though they just borrowed the costume. It’s kind of moronic.

We don’t count, but it’s surprising to hear the other places you mentioned are pushing back. The main hotd leaker I check frequently is a big pusher of the Alicent/Rhaenyra ship so hopefully it’s just Twitter thinking I’m into it too and is force feeding me related content of it.
