Why don't weeaboos watch Japanese TV shows?

Why don't weeaboos watch Japanese TV shows? There's a lot of lost media from the country because everyone decided to preserve only anime.

Because what works in anime (which is what weebs like) don't works for live action. I'm sure future directors will try to emulate anime more and more.

I disagree. I recently started watching an older Japanese drama about the police force and it does a lot of things you see in anime, just with regular people. It still works because Japanese people are inherently weird when they act all serious.

The ones that adapt stuff in their wheelhouse turn out fantastic. Densha Otoko is a cringe comedy, like the office, for example and it's about some total loser who tries to get his shit together to be with some rich heiress. Every single GTO adaptation worked well too. There are some solid adaptations out there.

True hardcore weebs of the sort who watch anime as a genre and makes no pretense of sorting through what's good and what's bad and are fine with watching isekai harem shlock+actively keep up with seasonal releases instead of cherrypicking what they watch are doing it at least partially to dissociate from their surroundings. They genuinely would prefer to watch a animated character over a live-action character whenever possible because it's easier for them to enjoy it. Older weebs and japanophiles are more likely to branch out and watch japanese movies in particular, but younger individuals who fully immerse themselves in media which they generally only consume while alone are not the sort who'd be able to sit through a Kurasawa film, or a classic jap detective movie from the 70s.

Yeah, I'm considered a film buff in my generation for watchimg Ozu, 50s might as well be 500 years ago. I recently got into anime and I'm baffled by how useless every anime rating site and forum / community / /a/ all are for seperating the wheat from the chaff. Reading the reviews is really telling as far as what they consider to be signs of quality.

Where do you rind your anime? I could really use a bit of a selection at this point, having watched the most of the classics (the good ones, at least).

Just refer to the director and studios of the anime you liked. There’s only a handful of those. You can also refer to manga ratings, since manga is an actual artform with real snobs. Anything seinen should be decent.

        Really depends on what you like, really the best stuff I have ended up watching I learned via word of mouth and general referrals. Going off what I have watched off the top of my head over the last 5-6 years;
        >Back half of Mushishi
        >Texhnolyze
        >Humanity has Declined
        >One of the Galaxy Express 999 movies, can't recall which one
        >Kaiba
        >Kyousougiga
        >Heavens Lost Property (only real guilty pleasure on this list, the style of comedy works for me)
        >Ponyo, have more Ghibli stuff on my backburner
        >Ergo Proxy
        >Knights of Sidonia
As with a lot of stuff, I think it's best to find a studio you like as

stated, and then work your way towards the different genres, and then hit the books. If you're lucky, you might find stuff like Clamp's output to be tolerable, and then you're set for about a decade.

But I did, just like everything else, 90% of their lineup sucks. Shit are mostly panel/variety shows with them talking about foods and factoids from different countries, anime, tokusatsu, detective drama and some re-runs of samurai series from the 70s-80s. Nowadays I just watch their news program, at least the news anchors are cute and it's nice to see the stuff going on over there.

As for their TV unfortunately what's translated are shitty variety shows and shitty primetime soap operas by /jp/ types that are into teen idols. It's some of the worst tv on planet earth. Not that all their tv is like that but it's what you're stuck with as an English Only Peasant.

Because 95% of what's worth watching is variety shit that's heavily embroiled in pop culture recognition.

The barrier to entry is too high for weebs. You've got to watch TV for a year or two to start understanding who all the random celebs who keep showing up are. Even then, you've got to go back 20 years and watch the popular dramas and shit to get half the references and decrepit old actors they keep bringing out and treating like gods. Plus, it's near impossible to find anything older than a year old. Maybe you'll find an old upload on some dogshit chink video site in 240p quality for one episode of a weekly show from a decade ago, but if you want to find shit from the showa era where they had chicks taking off their tops every week? Lol. Lmao, even. The TV studios don't even have this footage anymore, they taped over everything that wasn't a drama or news.

And ultimately, TV is a dying medium. Just like in the west, kids don't watch it anymore. They're all just watching youtubers and shit, by and large TV is falling apart because they can't get kids to watch it, leading to desperation tactics like shoving fucking fuwa-chan in everything.
