Why hasn't there been a proper horror cinematic universe (CU)?

Why hasn't there been a proper horror cinematic universe (CU)? It's obvious that it would print money and be a good investment for all parties involved. It could be done in a budget-efficient manner and be one of the most profitable ventures in a now struggling Hollywood. Who would you want to see in it?

Too many disagreements between different studios (arguing over who's character should get top billing, screen time, etc.). Unfortunately despite Freddy vs. Jason's box office success, horror crossovers never exploded in popularity.

Because they never all came from the same studio. And all the actual creators want each other dead

You can't tell me it wouldn't be good. You can't tell me it wouldn't be successful. Anyone who is contrarian enough to try just needs to preemptively frick off.

The idea that a competent writer couldn't construct a highly competent CU when there is so much to be gained is ridiculous.

you could do it in a silly action adventure way but then you're just making marvel with horror aesethics

They each reflect fears anxieties of a time/place. Mixing them all up is generic pink goo. Also how did extended universe end up for marvel/DC?

Nightmare on Elm street and Friday the 13th are a shred universe. There are also comic book crossovers with Army of Darkness/Evil Dead character Ash Williams so you can look at the 3 series as a whole Universe. Army of Darkness has multiple comic book crossovers with Xena, Vampirella, Marvel Zombies and others. You can kinda pick and choose what horror franchises are part of a shared universe if you want.

Bullshit. If the cinemas want to survive, they have to give us the cinematic universe we actually want to see.

Universal horror universe was the first cinematic universe ever. Dracula, Frankenstein etc from 1930s and 1940s.

For recent years, Dark Universe tried to tap that niche and failed. Nie they moved to separate unrelated films.

Yeah. It's crazy to think how even the highly successful horror genre is less iconic now. Saw has completely dominated the genre for the last 20 years, and it's certainly in no small part thanks to its iconic villain/antihero. Given how successful the franchise has been and all the potential it has, it's just crazy to think that there's actually no one like him.

And those movies did a pretty bad job at actually using the characters properly.

Stephen King's works all take place in more or less the same world, with a shared cosmology.
I think Clive Barker's do too.
In cinema, there's too many rights issues and disagreements between studios. Freddy vs. Jason took like 15 years to happen.

Universal Invisible Man enters the public domain on January 1, 2029.

Pretty soon anyone can make a universal monsters crossover movie.

    >Too many different people own the rights, so just being able to get everyone to agree to a project is different
    >each franchise has its own unique gimmicks and traits that may conflict or not make sense or work when put next to another franchise
    >very hard to balance and give each character equal footing, which is necessary because otherwise you piss off the fans and look like you’re taking sides/shitting on the other one
    >it’s extremely difficult to come up with a good enough story where the characters could possibly even meet, let alone team up/fight each other without resorting to incredibly stupid retcons etc.
    >actors simply might not agree to it (as seen by people like iirc Doug Bradley refusing to do proposed crossovers in the past)
    >most crossovers are bad precisely because they are often forced
    >when your stars are the villains, who do you use as heroes?
