Why hasn't there ever been a Neuromancer adaptation? Is it even possible? Who would you cast as Molly Millions?

there is a neuromancer adaptation. it's called the matrix and it was one of the biggest franchises of all time

Normies who never heard of the book would call it Matrix rip off despite Matrix was influenced by it, I think a Hollywood producer said exactly that who was thinking about adapting it. Same thing happening with Elric of Melnibone, a producer was hesitant of adapting that fantasy novel cause the general audience it would think it as a Witcher rip off.

Fricked up the post. Molly Millions was renamed Jane and played by Dina Mayer in the movie adaptation of Johnny Mneumonic.

I thought that after watching it during its original theatrical run. I bought the special edition on blu-ray last year just because I liked Gibsons books so much. After rewatching it several times I have come to feel it's kind of charming. The director has said he really had a bad experience with the studio meddling with the production and there was a lot of stuff he would have done different if allowed to. But the actors and sets were kind of great, even with the rampant overacting. I'm glad that I bought it.

To be fair if there has been a scene of flour being transformed into bread in a film in the last decade they have found a way to jam in relating it to trannies

She's more muscular than that picture. Book describes her as having a very functional gymnasts body. Also she fricks on the first date.

William Gibson is a pretty good author. Once you finish neuromancer, there's 5 more books(two separate trilogies) that are exactly the same lol. Mona Lisa Overdrive is pretty good.

You're the only one posing. Dude just said he staryed reading the book recently and likes it. What the frick are you trying to orove by pretending to be superior just because you read it before he did?

He does a good Thomas Pynchon impression while not being as impenetrably dense as Pynchon’s prose. Decent author, shame he got mindbroken by the Trump years (don’t look up the second book in his Peripheral series). The Blue Ant trilogy was the last really good thing he wrote, I was working in advertising when I first read those so I guess the subject matter resonated with me more than most people.

I started Pattern Recognition. I'm honestly not sure if I finished it or not. It didn't grab me the way Neuromancer did.

It’s very different to Neuromancer and isn’t really a sci-fi story, so I can understand that. If you’ve read the whole Gibson catalogue you can definitely see Pattern Recognition as the next natural evolution after the Bridge trilogy in his writing style. Like I said, I was working in advertising and living in London at the time so the subject matter ended up being eerily close to some of my day-to-day experiences back in the early 2010s. Maybe that’s why it resonated with me more than it does other people.

I’d like to see those books adapted to film just so Tom Cruise can play Bigend.

LITERALLY cannot be good, please don't adapt this.

There’s two ways you could do it, in my opinion:

      1) bring it up to date with the current state of the world. Think Villeneuve/Nolan in terms of stripped-back, brutalist aesthetics. Make the technology and fashion look like the insides of an evil Apple Store.
      2) what I think I would prefer to see, make a cassette futurism period piece. Treat it as if you were making the film in the late 80’s and restrict the visual and design palette to what would have been available in that period in terms of fashioning props, sets, costumes, etc.

The whole Zion arc would absolutely never be made in Current Year.

Other than that, it's too influential to be adapted. People would think it's a rip off of literally every other Cyberpunk thing ever without realizing it single handidly created all those tropes and the genre.

Because Gibson heard "flechette gun" and thought it sounded cool as frick without understand what it really is.
