Who wants to talk about the movie? I loved it. I thought Debbie made a great foil to Dr Venture since his father’s legacy has always been a burden while Debbie resents not being able to inherit her father’s. And I liked that they answered the “mommy question” while still technically maintaining that Hank and Dean have no mom. It’s a nice compromise to fans expecting big things that the boys are the grandkids of the one of the biggest villains but ultimately it doesn’t matter because you choose your family. Dr Venture Sr fighting Force Majeur looked cool. Loved the New Jack City Blackulas.

I hope at worst case scenario they can continue Venture Bros via a comic book like how Joss Whedon extended Buffy for a while. Given how niche the comic book industry is I think Publick and Hammer can continue the story that way.

Did you speed watch? It's not Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, it's her old college friend who Doc Venture helped out by transferring her mom's invisibility powers into her, and harvested her eggs as payment.
He then made the boys and carried them himself in an external womb thing.

No they are clones because the original Hank and Dean made from those eggs have sinced died and been replaced by clones many times over.

Rusty made a fuck load of clones from the original Hank and Dean, who were made with Mantilla's eggs and Rusty's semen. their memories were recorded each night in their learning beds. so when they died, Rusty warmed up a pair of clones and put their memories into the clones.

all of their clones were killed when the Monarch and OSI fought outside of the Venture compound.

It just felt like a season compressed for time, there were no major dramatic moments or deaths, which was a missed opportunity since it's the last show they'll ever make.
        >inb4 IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT
yes, skirting all conventions of storytelling surely worked out for them

          Anonymous

It was obviously planned out as a whole season and all they got was 1 long episode to cover it so they had to speedrun the plot to get to the big answers.
The individual scenes and dialogue were still up to their usual quality but the cut content obviously hurts a lot.
Can't blame them though if this was the only option in the time frame they had.

            Anonymous

            >this was the only option in the time frame they had.

They could have just focused on Hank and Dean and wrapped up some big climatic battle between Rusty and The Monarch instead of inserting another female villain that just ate up screentime and was defeated by talking.

              Anonymous

If they did that you'd be complaining that the boys mother was never revealed, and about whichever of your favorite side characters got left out.
The final product is obviously not the perfect outcome, but I don't know exactly how much time/budget they were given by hbo to make it.
They obviously had a lot planned out before Adult Swim pulled the plug and if they were using a lot of what they had planned already I'm guessing they didn't have enough time to start from scratch.
The Venture Bros isn't immune to criticism but the creators aren't exactly the cutting corners type either. There's a reason each season released so slowly and it wasn't because they were lazy.

                Anonymous

                >If they did that you'd be complaining
Don't use a hypothetical as a defense, moppet.

They certainly took their time but when something as momentous as discovering Jonas is alive is then rendered moot minutes later I learned that their art is far better than their writing. Cutting off literally every plot point at the knees to subvert expectations makes for a weak story. Shoving in pun name after pun name just to fill airtime makes for a weak story. I was expecting a big payoff for all the blueballing dead-ends the show had and only got the egg donor and the bros reunited. All the other bazillion threads went nowhere as the status quo reigned king. Even the Monarch was saved. Boring, and now the show is over.

                >Don't use a hypothetical as a defense, moppet.
My point is they didn't have a perfect solution for the time frame/budget allowed to make everybody happy. Keep ignoring that if you want to defend your hypothetical opinion
The fact is if they did it your way the main complaint would be "Where was X character why didnt they get a sendoff?"
Hell they managed to squeeze Brock in and people were still complaining he didn;t get enough time with all the other shit they had to get in.
I said more than once that this wasnt a perfect solution, but I trust the creators did they best they could in the circumstances. Keep shitting on them if you must I guess. I would have much rathered we got the whole intended season but somebody has to fucking pay for it and apparently that wasn't Adult Swim.

that's not the correct reading, Rusty is a racist who actively dislikes blacks and a-rabs, he is also self obsessed and doesn't care about other people, especially brown people. He was never recloned, only his sons because they're so fucking stupid being 3rd tier clones of jonas and unlike his father he is incapable of adequately rescuing/saving them.
what pissed me off is WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO JONAS VENTURE JR AND SALLY?! he just gets written off as dead after finding his dad? WTF? The big movie finale even involves Jonas Jr's voltron robot so wtf hes just permanently dead offsceen?

The premise isn't that grabbing. Nobody cares about Johnny Quest these days. It's not like the Simpsons which was a cultural phenomenon that was edgy during its time. it's not as crude as a South Park or Family Guy. It comes in that wave of adult shows after. I don't think the people who watch adult cartoons for laughs are about this. Then your general animation fan who watches Disney shit won't be into this. It's just different.

Just as an example Venturestein is Jonas Sr level science or even more. And the security robot he made, despite his issues, worked pretty well.
Rusty is a great superscientist when engaged and focused it's just that his laziness and psychological issues fuck him up so bad he ends up taking the easy way out.
Even Professor Impossible says laziness and carelessness is Rusty's problem.

            Anonymous

Multiple people try to enlist his services for cloning as well, which yes his dad did a lot of the work for, but I think its mentioned that Rusty was actually good at it an improved what his dad started.
Jonas Sr was just such a gigachad genius and Rusty childhood was so traumatic that he could never live up to those expectations

            Anonymous

The joycan was another extraordinary invention. Rusty is a smart person, he's just enthralled with an outdated vision of super science. Unlike J.J. who was more successful because of his focus on more practical inventions.

              Anonymous

J.J. is the living proof Rusty had the potential to genius as it's pretty heavily hinted that they are either twins or, as the show implies, clones.
J.J. is what Rusty could have been if he was not raised by Jonas.
My headcanon is that Jonas Sr. tried to make "inferior" clones of himself to leave a legacy that would not be as good as himself, so he spiced up his modified clones to make an ideal companion/son to his adventures and he gave up the ones that did not meet his standards (the Monarch, the mexican professor from the pilot, maybe Billy Quizboy etc...) and decided to kept the Rusty model and made backups. One of these backups clones absorbed an early corrupted cloned(with dwarfism and a missing limb) before Jonas could kill it and those became the current Rusty and late J.J.

                Anonymous

It’s not hinted at. They are twins and Rusty ate his brother in the womb. Furthermore, they’re fraternal twins as evidence that Rusty is bald and JJ has a full head of hair.

                Anonymous

The hair loss was said to be fixed in the monarch by adding the baboon genes too. So they almost certainly weren't identical twins.
The comparison that JJ is what Rusty potentially could have been without Jonas Sr raising him is fair, at least from Rusty's perspective.

But the series "present day" Rusty is a clone just as Dean and Hank..
JJ is a defective clone of Rusty with dwarfism, lack of a forearm and good hair genetics.
The whole womb thing is either some primal dream or just Rusty absorbing JJ in the cloning vat.

in A Very Special Venture Halloween when Ben examines Dean he states ,among other foreshadowing in retrospect things, that there are no signs of fetiform teratoma. This is know as fetus in fetus, literally what happens to Rusty and JJ was know as Ben as some side effect of the clonation process to look for.

Running down several possible deformities and issues seen in The Monarch (idiopathic hirsutism in the orbital region, aka gigantic eyebrows), Doc Venture (androgenic alopecia), JJ (fetiform teratoma... Which is basically what he is), etc.

      >fuck arthoes

You mean get fucked by trannies, I don’t think I can even imagine a “chad” venture bros fan, all of it was gay coded

        >gay coded
Rusty, Monarch and Brock were all straight and there was nothing in the writing to suggest otherwise. Sure there were some gay characters but otherwise nothing gay about the show.

Every secondary character was some fag outside of the core cast, and then they basically wrote out Brock because they got annoyed of the heterosexuality (but kept the dr girlfriend shit). Look, I didn’t think there used to be either but looking back it’s drenched in gay shit. Dean might as well be written as a closeted teen too

            >wrote out Brock
Sidelining Brock and replacing him with a pedophile is probably one of the most retarded writing decisions of all time. Jackson Publick said he was suffering burnout around that time. But man, there was so much weird pedo shit. I actually think the first part of season 4 in unwatchable for 3 or 4 episodes.

Yea, I actually checked out of the series permanently. He’s not a funny character, he’s not a likeable character, and the whole pedo thing is some real side eye material. What they should have done is just do a revolving door thing of random bodyguards if they really didn’t want Brock back, but Jackson really loved the pedo marine or whatever the hell he was supposed to be

It’s been going on too long. The first few seasons are amazing referential entertainment mixing everything from 60’s Saturday morning cartoons to 70’s glam rock to 80’s action movies, a love letter to pop and counter culture specifically aimed at men.
Eventually the show started smelling it’s own farts and became way too self aware. Probably sometime after the fat nerd henchman went Chad mode.

Venture Bros is about normal human beings thrown into extraordinary circumstances. Rick and Morty is a power fantasy for retards who never get to have the last word in real life so it’s thrilling when Rick puts others in their place.
