Have you ever seen millennial dads? They're either complete beta homosexual wimps or weirdly overcompensatory hardasses covered on tribal tattoos and rocking a 2000 goatee.
There just aren't any normal people around anymore, because starting with gen x everyone refused to grow up for better or for worse.

This. I had the privilege of being raised by a baby boomer. Meanwhile my cousins were Gen X and they were not fricking normal.

I really see those a lot in person where I live though. Like, 2/3 millennial dudes have sunglasses and tattoos, even if they have kids.
People just must hate them too much to put them in media.

Hank is legitimately strong and smart, just somewhat stubborn and self-centered. Half the lessons in the shows are about him overcoming his stubborn ways and reaching out to his CHAD son, Bobby.

He is literally the generic ignorant but well-meaning Southerner. He is both weak AND stupid but not in a malicious or downright moronic manner like Peter and Homer, more in like a "difficult to understand change" way.

Hank really isn't the only normal dad in sitcom. I'd say Bob Belcher, Stan Smith, Jay Sherman and really early Homer Simpson (like between Tracy Ulman era to Season 2).

Why have industrycuck threads remained constant for the past three years?

  13. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

Because media is trying to normalize men being the caretakers/ not the primary breadwinner, which is slightly reflective of reality due to the fact that women have begun to become the predominant gender in post-secondary institutions and many are outearning men.

However, women also refuse to "date down" and most won't settle for men who make less than them anyways, meanwhile men are more receptive to being the caretakers in comparison. So I think these "beta dads" are made more so to condition women for their possible futures.

Change of archetype. Before this, you had this abusive, hotheaded father that kids could rebel. Now you have the more caring but incompetent father figure for lulz and kids selfinserts wishfullfillment.
It is always a thing of generational fight. But times changed and when you have more understanding but strict fathers in today families, you adapt that.

he is one of the few exceptions. Look at the Muslim Dad in the Netflix midnight mass vampire show, and dads in Key and Peele movies, or Craigs Dad in Craig of the Creek. That kind of dad is allowed. Chad dads who save the day are no longer allowed. The Mitchells vs the Machines was the closest I've seen a white dad get to being chad in modern /co or /tv, and even then the Mitchell dad spent most of the movie as a beta.

I had a good dad, but I recognize the pattern on TV of turning dads in to chubby subservient betas, where as in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s dads were generally depicted as chads who always do their best to protect and take care of their family.

              >but I recognize the pattern on TV of turning dads in to chubby subservient betas
A good chunk of dads from 90s and 00s were chubby or subservient betas. Even the 2010s had a few good dads.
              >where as in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s dads were generally depicted as chads who always do their best to protect and take care of their family.
Again, that didn't disappear from the 90s onwards. Did people forget that Professor Utonium existed?

This. Society went to shit after the 80s. We were living in a golden age of media in that decade and masculinity was allowed. Parents like James Possible and Jack Fenton are a mockery of, say Benton Quest.

He would do us all a favor by never replying on this board ever again, but since he's too much of a fricking schizo to stop posting, then the next thing is him getting banned.

If that won't, then at least I have the consolation of him eventually dying.

He has done so much damage to this board, it's ridiculous. He's permanently fricked up all discussion for cartoons in the 2000's and is now trying to frick up all discussion for cartoons in the 2020's
